How cold does it get where you are? I just baught the same plant. Stralitzia nicolai.. Or white bird of paradise. We are medeteranian climate. Our coldest we get is around 10 degrees celcius. Is my plant going to die? I planted it outside. I just baught it! I don't want it to die
Ideal temps for them is range between 65 and 70 ºF. They are hardy up to 24 ºF, although they will start to suffer some frost damage at consistently low temperatures. Bird of paradise plants also prefer high humidity. I can tell you in North Florida we had 4 consecutive night time temps of 20F that caused the damage shown in the video. Best practices is to have watered in your plants BEFORE the freeze, 4-6" of mulch (but not up against the plant base) and you can cover if you ever have a freeze. 10C = 50F ... you should be fine. I would hope you never have a freeze in your region. It would potentially cause wide spread damage.

Well it's the same as just about any pruning a damaged plant. Go all the way down the stalk to where it meets the plant. Cut just above the 'joint' area.
110% sure. I bought it. Traveller's palm is not available in my area, nor will it tolerate our cold(er) weather. **I WISH it was a Traveller palm... they're goregous!
The quintessential answer the band should have when a drunk at a dive bar hollers out "play White Bird!"
Thanks for the advice and tips 👍🏼
Thank you for posting❤
Do you have a video or picture of the plant coming back?
I sure do! It's doing well. I have to load the picture on the community tab... YT doesn't allow pictures in comments.

What climate do you live in?
North Florida
So what did you do to correct it? Did you cut it off?
I took each piece back to where I saw a new leaf starting to form.
@redbirdgardeniit sure would've been helpful to see you cut off the dead part! Th you for yr info.nganddesign
Can I clip all the dead away or just leave the plant be? I picked up a rehab the previous owner was gonna dump but curious what to do now, thank you!!
You can cut away the dead. But pay close attention to find any green coloration. It should regenerate so long as the roots haven't died.
Will a new leaf emerge from the top of the stem?
@@OliveJuice.512for bird of paradise the new growth and leaf sprout from the middle center

Hello Mrs.Turner can I email you a photo or two of my birds of Paradise plant? it’s dying and i really need some advice
Absolutely! Email: redbirddesign11@gmail.com
If you have a lot of brown (dead looking) cut that off. If you have green, be sure to let it grow out. Be sure the plant isn't diseased as well.
How to tell if its diseased?

So show how to trim it😮

are you sure this is bird of paradise? it looks a traveller palm to me because of the v structure of the plant.

Passenger Palm
No it is not. It is a White Bird of Paradise, Strelitzia Nicolai.
PS: Passenger Palm can not grow in my region. We have temps that will kill it.
