Hi, from Paraguay. I just found your videos, so I'm catching up on some past ones. The art work by "Esther" was interesting because her full name was on the back. She passed away in 2023. Possibly lived in Canada, but both she and her husband had family roots in Belgium. I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos...great job!
Laura, my dear! Your 'crochet pieces' are lace work, not crochet! Belgian or Flemish lace is famous and Bruges is particularly renown for a unique style of lace. I loved living in Belgium as a child in the 1970s, and even then, you would see some elderly ladies, sitting in the doorway of their homes, working their lace.
My Mother would buy biscuits with an uneven top surface, which my younger brother aged 3 named "bumpy road biscuits" after the cobbled streets which he loved riding across when in his buggy! It's a beautiful, charming country and I'm so glad that you are enjoyed your visit. Liz
I am adopting “bumpy road biscuits”. Love it.
Hallo, Laura, your haul from Brugge is incredible. Two things: put the egg shells under the egg. The two crosses are not crocheted they are made in a bobbin lace technique in German called Kloeppeln.
Was about to say the same. Lace bobbin is called kantklossen in The Netherlands, I assume they use the same word in Belgium.
Hey Laura, the bronze "Last supper" plaque that was inscripted at the back translates to "Go out into the world and teach all the people" (I guess they imply the word of god here). Amazing finds, as always!
I returned home to Europe 5 yrs ago and the prices are indeed incredible. I may be moving back to the States in 2024 but will be definitely sourcing from the connections I've made here. I've even found vintage clothing wholesalers who ship bulk bundles to the UK & EU areas with FREE shipping so i will take advantage of that while I'm here. The city markets are fabulous but the smaller towns and villages offer even lower prices. Many fashion designers have warehouse sales at 50-70% off. The taxes, import, customs fees and then the retailers markup in the states almost triples prices.
"inkwell" box could be a stamp box
Laura I think this may be my most favorite thrifting video of all time from your channel. I have watched it three times and the finds are just incredible. In addition, I am now on the hunt for some egg cups, never realizing that my husband grew up eating three minute eggs this way. This just makes you want to thrift and only thrift!!!
HI LAURA! I WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL OF MY VIEWERS TO COME TO YOUR CHANNEL! IM SO GLAD I DID!!!!❤❤❤
The bronze plate of the last supper says "go out into the world and teach all the people"
The thrift store was to die for. I would want to go back again and again. The prices were unbelievable.
As a Belgian and Kringwinkel addict (that’s the name of the orange thrift shop you went to) this is so funny to watch :) They have these thrift stores all over, in all cities - our goodwills!
You could decorate a house with furniture where the large items were dirt cheap and they were lovely.
It was so surprising! Oh how I’d love to fill a container up to bring home 😍
@@leftcoastrevivals Years ago the price to do so was quite reasonable and often a few vendors would go in on a container. I'm actually looking into options. I'm originally from Europe and here now but planning to move back to the States in 2024. I have made many connections and do clothing, accessories, and smalls but the furniture prices are so good. I personally love mirrors and chandeliers and would love to bring them 😉
I think your butter dish is an asparagus dish, but it would be a charming and unique butter dish! Im in love with Belgium now!
Oooooh I’ll have to try this because asparagus is a staple in our home 😋
It’s for combs. It’s called a ‘kammenbakje’ and is part of a ‘lampetstel’ 😊.
It is part of a toilette set and it is for coms, not for food
The US thrift stores need to take note of the great prices in other countries!!!!
The prices here reflect our hight of income. What we earn true work is very diffrent to the dollar. That is why it looks cheap for tourists.
Not just high prices but crappy inventory. Yes, please take note.
Supply and demand. And a lot of this stuff is repro.
Omg!!! I now must go to Belgium. I haven't planned my 2024 trip and I've never been to the Northern European countries so now they are looking very alluring. I was so surprised at how inexpensive religious iconography is in Europe and how well it sold for me online. Can't wait to see the next video.
Do it! Send me a DM on IG before you do cause I’ve got tips for you 😘
@@leftcoastrevivals I would love that. I’ve already earmarked the market on my calendar.
OMG Laura I found that wine rack for free about a month ago. When I saw it I had thought of you. Well anyway I got distracted by something else and had taken a photo to look up. Lo and behold I walked out without it but I was going through my photos and did a Google search and almost had a heart attack. You can bet your bottom dollar I was there first thing in the morning and it was still there! So happy
From an ocean away this place looks like a bargain hunters dream.
The “ butterdish” is actually for combs.
The prices for that gorgeous furniture is insane...that rosewood cabinet and only 40 Euros? Unbelievable.
That was the greatest resale shop! Fabulous items and prices.
The best!! 🙌
CONTAINER!!! Whoop!!😂 There were SO many fantastic items. Egg cups can also be used as salt cellars. Thank you for taking us along!❤
the back of the copper plate of the last supper is a part from the scripture in Matthew 28:19 "go therefor in the world and teach all peoples"
My favorite Left Coast Girl can shop like a BOSS🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
The cleanliness and organization of those thrift stores was amazing! I live in CA and Euro tourists would be horrified if they walked into one of our Goodwills.
My favorite city in Belgium not only because my daugther lives there.
Very romantic and historical place
I was so happy to meet you there!
I love the litle stals by the water. They are there every weekend
Sarah I love the owl you choose! Love the marble
Loved the hanging oillamp
I love brutalist style jewlery
The anteater is so cute!
We need a truck to go thrifting , dont we
My mom used to make those "gekantklostte"(hard lacework) crosses.
Still own one from her hand
I love the watermill painting
A vanety is on my thriftlist foe 2024
The "butterdish" comb and brusholder has a beautyfull design
The thriftprices there a sheaper then here
The house of waffles, I need to visit that too
Thank you for visiting our country X
Old dark wooden furniture like those wardrobes you saw in the thrift store for €5 or 10 is very out of style at least here in Germany and people tend to give it away for free because you can hardly sell it anymore. I guess it is similar in Belgium.
It is not a butterdish! It was used for putting soap in, and in a matching set together with a pitcher and a bowl for washing your hands and face. Before we had proper bathrooms😊
That brass box in the beginning is for stamps.
The little box is a stamp box I had one in the 70ties ❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
WOW! I was drooling over everything you filmed and those prices were unbelievable. Lucky you!!!
The first box with two compartments is for stamps .❤
My family is Dutch and Ive spent many many years doing flea markets and thrift in Belgium and NL....absolutely the BEST stuff.
Hello Laura,it is not a butter dish but an antique hair comb box ! But you can use it for butter!
The Blue and white pattern @4:45 is a reproduction of the Meissen Blue Onion Pattern.
If you please, the brass incense box with spoon is for storing powdered incense, not for burning it. The powdered incense is spooned out and burnt in a separate, different brasier that also holds a hot coal and has a perforated top to let the smoke out XO
Thank you for this info!! I didn’t understand how it was for burning incense ❤️
Loved the landscape. Vameer put a pin in the vanishing point of his paintings, leaving a little hole.😮
Hi, your butter dish is actually a toothbrush holder, part of an early 20th century washing set. There would have been a jug and basin too.
The dish at 24:02 was originally a toothbrush holder.
I love the Madonna in the brass frame, gorgeous!
Laura, My parents were from the Middle East, and we always ate soft boiled eggs from olive wood egg cups. I loved them and wish that I still had those egg cups.
The little brass box in the beginning is for stamps!
Did you check out the Bruges lace makers (lace made on pillows) and the Belgian masters art museum while in Bruges?
I think your butter dish is a antique tooth brush holder
Hey Laura...w/o being a "know it all"...I believe what you bought in Belgium as a butter dish is actually a comb holder...probably went with a pitcher/bowl, etc set. But who cares, it can be what you want it to be!!
What a beautiful trip! You are finding the most beautiful European places to visit, not just for vintage and antiques but for food, for culture for the whole experience and vibe .. Myself being European I appreciate it so much ... Laura , you are becoming the best tourist guide ever ! But I do adore all the beautiful sites and stores and places you are showing us in America ... The USA is such a beautiful country, the nature is just breath taking , the art , the paintings, the pottery and the heritage items as well ... Thank you so much Laura xxx
Thank you so much! 😊 Truth is I love just about everywhere! I’m going to highlight new incredible spots around the west coast (home for me!) this next year and I’m so excited about that too 😄 I just love exploring anywhere new and it doesn’t have to be far (although obviously I love to travel to Europe for its rich history!). Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and for watching my vlogs! Excited to share new adventures with you in the new year!
My friend always raved about how beautiful Bruges is…would love to visit one day, thank you for the great fun❤
Laura please get a container , you need to bring furniture and pictures back ❤❤❤
That's not a butter dish at 24:02.
It's a toothbrush holder from a Chamber pot set. It's probably from about 1917 or so at best guess.
One can always repurpose, but I think a butter stick might be too tall foi it.
In New England, it particular one would probably go for $25-35 dollars depending on the store and the condition.
I hope that helps.
Awesome finds, absolutely amazing! Those waffles looked so good I am now going to make waffles for dinner, lol. Thank you for sharing, Laura! I am finally getting caught up on all of your videos. Yay! ❤
Lots of love from Belgium Antwerp❤
I'm loving this series! Great finds!
That's not a butter dish .It's part of a wash table set ,probably a toothbrush holder .
The brass ink well/ring box was a postage stamp box.
Husband and I are a planning a Easter road trip to France, Belgium, Luxembourg and back to Munich and I’d love to stumble across an antique market along the way 🤞
Merry Christmas to you and your family and furbabies. Watching your videos is like watching you playing dress up. I love it. Your Christmas decor is stunning. ...and so are you. I love how you switch from everyday to glamorous you.
A pipe would make a unique airplant holder❤
Been to Brugge twice! My favorite place in Europe.
Belgium feels so welcoming and the finds appeal to me on a deeper level than the more delicate French fine antiques. I can not wait for your next installment.
Hei Laura, your butterdish is a part of a set the lady's put on their dresser. Greetings from Belgium
The midcentury modern looks authentic, the two or three hundred year old stuff not so much…… be careful if it seems too good to be true… it is!
I’m so glad you got the brass porcelain Madonna. She’s lovely. I’ve been binge watching your channel since I found you a few days ago, and a few other similar channels, but your taste is exquisite. I’m trying to figure out how I can start a side career.🤩
Would the ‘crochet’ not be handmade Belgian lace? The sort made with bobbins?
My friend who lives in Sweden will purchase a truck here in America and ship it to Spain for $700.00. I know he has shipped a truck from Los Angeles, California to Spain. I believe it was 7 months from purchasing the container to his friend picking it up from the port.
I havent been to Belgium in years. I think its time to visit again. Thanks for the video.
Holy cow! Amazing prices & finds!❤
Le pain Quotidien is a chain. They have them all over France and I have been to them in California
Mini box is a stamp box for postage stamps
I’ve been in Bruges and Antwerp myself, cool places to go for a trip indeed…🙂
What a wonderful trip! Your crocheted crosses may be tatted. I’ve only met one person who could tat and she passed away 25 years ago. I would definitely get those checked out.
It’s handmade lace, using bobbins.
I am absolutely astounded at the items and price you got!
Oh wow!! Belgium looks absolutely amazing! 😻 Thank you for this beautifully inspiring video, Laura!
(PS Love love love the little anteater/hedgehog critter!)
The butter dish is actually part of a vanity set. Great idea to use it for butter though!
Not sure if anyone has told you yet but the item you called a butter dish is actually an antique toothbrush or razor box 😊 great video as always! ✨
The box at 1.30 is for stamps.
Hi Laura At the 1:30 mark, I believe I learned (from George!) the little brass box held stamps. I have one just like it. I love it so much.
Love owls too and collect too
The bleu and white dis isnot a butter disk but a kamholder is of a set waterkan and po and wash dish ....grten uit Rotterdam
The market was really good and inexpensive ❤
The blue and white porcelain are Meissen 😊and rare to find
Thank You!
Love the butter dish. When I thrift in my local area in Anchorage AK, the tops of butter dishes are never there.
The butter dish looks like an antique toothbrush holder.
OMG It would be so hard to shop there because you would want to bring everything home because it was so cheap. Dont you wish you could shop like that in the US. What a fun trip. The food looks so good and they give alot. Cant wait to next time. See you later
You must get at least one piece of Lace and go see the only Michaelangelo statue outside Italy. Awesome. 😊
The porcupine toothpick cheese holder is by roberto rigon his animals are very cute. I have one of his bulls, great finds!
Great finds! Your crosses are handmade lace done with very fine thread and small wooden spools….when I was there in 1985, I watched the lace makers. It was fascinating and of course I brought some home and bought an old spool at the market.
Did you keep the first crochet piece you found? That was so beautiful, my mom used to make crochet things like that. I can't believe that thrift store and the prices. I would of bought a lot if I lived there lol
Bruges has some great prices on Mid Century furniture. Merry Christmas Laura🧑🎄🎄☃️
You found so much awesome stuff! I have visions of you chucking out all your clothes so you can fit your treasures in the luggage.
😂 you know I would! I used it for extra wrapping this time 🙌
The little brass box is a stamp box .I have one exactly the same .
Oh Laura! This series is amazing. Bringing back so many memories .
Double check to see if your brass stir spoons will interact with alcohol. Very possible that you can’t use them.
That's NOT a butter dish! It was used in the 18th century and also later to keep the toothbrushes! Back in the day they were made from horse hair.
Some absolutely beautiful bits, Laura. Those blue and white porcelain boxes at the beginning would be my weakness. The WW1 trench art said 1914 to 1918, not 1948, yes the 1 do look a bit like 4 hahaha 😂
I’m soooo dyslexic with numbers 🤣
WOW…….❣️❣️❣️I know that I will be reviewing this video at least a million times, I don’t want to miss a single second ! Really awesomely beautiful items and purchases. This was so amazing to watch, I can’t even imagine how wonderful it was to experience! Thank you taking us along, it was so much fun 🎉❤
Beautiful things and at great prices
So cool you’re in Belgium my mom is from there and lots of my family. I love Bruges it’s such a cute town your videos take me back to when I was there. Thank you for sharing it.
I've been thinking you need to get a container and have a blast filling it up. It would pay for itself.
It’s called an egg cup in England
The 15 E brass small box with the sunflower was for stamps
That dresser at 22:27, WOW, BEAUTIFUL!
