I left mine out in a heavy rain. I tried starting fluid in the carb and nothing. Then I was gonna spray some in the spark plug area, but noticed fluid (gas, water, both) inside. So I cranked it over till the fluid was out, put the plug back in and it started right up.
My 212 hemi has maybe 3 hours total on it. It ran fine until I cut it off one day, and 30 minutes later backfired one time and never started again. The plug wire fires, but that's about as far as I've gotten so far.
I'm having same problem on a pretty new engine. I've done everything you showed here. When I try to "electric start" it with an impact, it spins few times then gets stuck or stops. Is that a bad compression release?
@@WesleySnyder ok will do. Valves are adjusted correctly, magneto gapped correctly, carb cleaned twice and flywheel key is good. I can tell by looking at the exhaust rocker arm that the compression release is working. Still....get afterfires and rope kickback?? Any other ideas cuz I'm out of them. I do get orange spark, seems kinda weak too. Shouldn't it be blue/white? Any more help I'd be grateful.

Question I got a predator generator 6500 it dropped a ex value keeper was ringed out so I put new keeper and put it all back together and it backfiring and popping lil shot of gas coming bout the carburetor when I pull start it
Did you check the flywheel key could be sheared. If that doesn't work try to start it without the muffler on some times they get plugged. Thanks for watching 👍😎
Ok under the plastic idle screw there is another plastic thing that you can pry out with a screwdriver, this is the idle circuit. Clean the small holes out with a piece of wire brush bristles. Should help with that. Thanks for watching 👍😎

Im thinking its not getting enough fuel in the carburetor to keep up, like the fuel line is kinked or plugged. But without more info i dont really know
Good video man. Hey i got a baja warrior for my boy the card has a drain bolt but you cant remove the bowl for some reason. I cleaned the carb best i could but there what looks like oil mixed with gas coming out the exhaust any idea?
The only thing I didn't get on video in this video was I tried a drill on the flywheel. If you did everything I did and it wouldn't start. Try a drill on flywheel to clear it out. Thanks for watching👍
@@evilokc you can get an adapter to put a socket on a drill and then take the fan shroud off. Put socket on flywheel nut using the drill to turn the engine over like a electric starter. It works to clear out the cylinder.
Hey I really really really need help I am stuck I have a 459cc predator engine I Checked the spark plug good spark I have strong compression new crank case gasket all timings lined up new oil filled new carb but when I turn it on it spins and smoke comes out of the exhaust and some out the air filter with little gas also cam is new and the intake rods is in place but never turns on it does the same pop as yours does???? Please help I’m giving up I did everything am I missing something ??
I would see if it starts with starting fluid that would be a carburetor issue then maybe check valve lash and valve train to see if there might be a push rod issue then make sure the flywheel key is now sheered. Good luck 🤞

@@hbc5284that could be so much... Check the key way for shear also the push rods if you have disassembled it, they could not be in the right place... If they are right its most likely a carburetor slash fuel issue... Make a short and link it I will watch it.... Thanks for watching 😎👍
I have a problem when i start it up, smoke starts coming out. Then i turned it off, turned it back on and once i pulled the string starter then a loud pop came out. Do you know what that is?
i got just enough info to help i think. it sounds like the carb is the issue try cleaning it real good. i think its flooding maybe. try that and get back with me
My go cart is turns on, when I put it on start but as soon as I put it to run it stops. Also it runs rough and blows some black smoke. Anyone having this issue??
The idle circuit is plugged. There is a plastic thing under the plastic idle screw. Remove the idle screw and the idle thing pops out with a flat screw driver. Work each side and it will pop up. Clean it carefully as it is plastic and it will run great. Good luck
I have a new predator 212 and when I installed it on my go kart and attached the throttle cable it won’t turn on. I tested it before I did the throttle cable and it was running perfectly

Hey I have a Coleman ct200u stage 1 + torque converter from ombwarehouse... I have spark I have fuel even tried starting fluid and I get one fire ball and it won’t start up any ideas
i put a mikuni carb on today and when i took the side cover off the cam came out to and so the 2 long bolt things came down thats suppose to be right next to the cam and i put them bck in the hole they came out of and put my cam back and and lined it up and now all of a sudden my compression is low so easy to pull but wont start
@@kbaxtre9290 oh i think figured it out a push rod is bound up holding the valve open. The "bolt things" are lifters and if the push rod is not in the cup all the way it hold valve open. Pull valve cover and push spring down wiggle push rod into place

Racing gokarts do that all the time but then the rope start cant hold up to the extra compression. Thats why those electric starters are used. I haven't been brave enough to do it myself. Oh by the way the reason why the engine in this video wouldn't start is because i had to much hyper lube in the oil making it too thick. Thanks for watching 👍😎

Brother the oil level was low if you would have added oil in the beginning that would have cured it the reason it started after you took case off it because you filled the engine with oil and it fired right up good video tho
Hey I had an engine sitting for a while so I removed all the old oil and filled it with some new oil, I didn’t have enough so I mixed a little bit of the old oil in and it doesn’t start, what do you recommend I do?
I bought a brand new predator that wont start. Beginning to end: Put oil and gas, had it started, let it idle 30 minutes, it died everytime it throttled, now wont start.

Some engines have plastic cam gears but the harbor freight predator 212 has all metal cam. Later in the video I take the side cover off and you can see that it has a metal cam gear. But yes the engines with plastic inside can cause it too

So I’m having an odd problem. Everytime I pull the string starter thing, it stops halfway. So we took it apart and put it back together, and now I was able to pull the string thing. Once I did that, I tried starting it. Some sort of liquid started leaking out from under the engine and it still won’t start...I’m obviously not a genius on these things but if someone could give me some ideas on what to do that’d be great lol
I would start by checking for spark. Pull the spark plug out and plug it in to the plug wire resting the plug on the engine and pull rope. It should have a blue spark on the end. If it does try to use starting fluid. If it starts with that the carb might need cleaned
@@loufernando7617 thats what i was going to say next. if the tminig marks didnt line up it could do what your engine in doing. make sure the dots line up when insalling the cam.
If the decompression mechanism on the camshaft is broken or not working it will be difficult to start the engine with the pull start rope, if the camshaft is broken in half it will not start at all.
I would check for excessive gas in the cylinder causing hydro-locking if not some engines have a compression release that could be bad. Ether way pull the plug and of that helps check those
So this ain’t the problem with my engine it but my engin is kinda new not very old no problems and there was oil in the head because it was flipped for a second. It will start but won’t stay alive and it’s getting gas
im sure the compression release was the issue. some thing was jammed in there and fell out because it starts first pull now. i know you cant see it sorry for that...thanx for watching
"Had to been 1 of those 4 things".... Well no... That's where ur wrong.. valves could not of been (that) far out where it magically wouldn't start the next day.... Carb was cleaned that would of been an instant result ... Fly wheel key .. it's fine.. take the cam out lol.... Nothing .... Heck it may not of had spark and he's pulling the can out!!!! Lol.... Then magically he says we'll sometimes pulling it apart and putting it back together just fixes it lol.... WRONG .... Probably low on oil and when he "checks" the can and rips it apart fills it back up lol.... What a goof... Ur "trouble shooting" reminds me of a truck driver trying to "fix" his trk when he is very incompetent .... Better luck next time on the guessing game .

try a none impact drill first (a big one too) impacts do funny stuff

Could be the carb running rich. A new carb is like 15 dollars on Ebay if it give you trouble

What size did you use on the impact drill when you checked the key way

I rebuilt a Predator 212, removed governor, oil pressure sensor, added a 28mm Mikuni, 120 jet, engine wont pull start but it will drill start and run.
Man I'm not sure I would start with checking the compression I guess and then maybe check the flywheel key to see if it moved a little bit good luck
Was it just a pop or a misfire out the exhaust? Mine is misfiring and smoking a little out the exhaust

The idle circuit is plugged. There is a plastic thing under the plastic idle screw. Remove the idle screw and the idle thing pops out with a flat screw driver. Work each side and it will pop up. Clean it carefully as it is plastic and it will run great. Good luck

It's hard to say you could have a faulty low oil sensor try unplugging the yellow wire and see if it starts

Have you ever tried deleting the compression release on an engine?
Racing gokarts do that all the time but then the rope start cant hold up to the extra compression. Thats why those electric starters are used. I haven't been brave enough to do it myself. 🤔Sounds like maybe some water in the gas. Has it been rained on. Drain the float bowl into a cup and check. 😎👍

Check for spark. If I doesn't have any you can disconnect the low oil cut off wire. Its yellow on a predator down on the lower front

@ dont scrap it. You can figure it out. You can try to pull the small wire off the coil. That's the kill wire. Then check for spark again
Pull the spark plug out and hook it to the plug wire and pull the cord. You should see spark on end of spark plug.

What weight of oil did you use. Some times the really thick 20 50 like oil can mess with the compression release.

Hey I have this generator and when I pull it it backfires what do you think the problem is
it could be the flywheel key is sheared

Its a homelite with a subaru engine 2800
Oh.. Subaru's have timing chains it may be something to do with a bad chain
You can't properly adjust the valve lash without pulling the plug and finding TDC.
So I’m having an odd problem. Everytime I pull the string starter thing, it stops halfway. So we took it apart and put it back together, and now I was able to pull the string thing. Once I did that, I tried starting it. Some sort of liquid started leaking out from under the engine and it still won’t start...I’m obviously not a genius on these things but if someone could give me some ideas on what to do that’d be great lol
I would start by checking for spark. Pull the spark plug out and plug it in to the plug wire resting the plug on the engine and pull rope. It should have a blue spark on the end. If it does try to use starting fluid. If it starts with that the carb might need cleaned
I have a hemi, I rode for like and hour and it just stopped

@@gizm0816 pull the valve cover to see if the valve's are moving. Could be just a stuck Valve hopefully

I've got one that feels like the compression is to hard after I took out the govner now it won't start
Check the flywheel key, it could be sheared.

@@WesleySnyder was working fine before maybe I did something with the timing the cam did fallout while I was working on it

@@loufernando7617 thats what i was going to say next. if the tminig marks didnt line up it could do what your engine in doing. make sure the dots line up when insalling the cam.
usually when my engine does this i just change the plug and it starts up first pull

what happens if the camshaft doesnt work
If the decompression mechanism on the camshaft is broken or not working it will be difficult to start the engine with the pull start rope, if the camshaft is broken in half it will not start at all.
Hey my engine is getting stuck when I pull the pull start what can it be
I would check for excessive gas in the cylinder causing hydro-locking if not some engines have a compression release that could be bad. Ether way pull the plug and of that helps check those
By any chance If its excessive gas how can I drain it
I opened the engine up and I found a little white thing that looks like a little tube that was in the oil can that be a problem

My engine doesnt want to start because i flooded the filter area with gas
The air filter? Might just give it time to air out. Maybe clean the carb while you wait so it doesn't flood anymore. 😎👍
Mines starts but only for a second and dies unells I full throttle it and won’t idle and it has a new carb
Maybe the fuel tank vent is plugged. Try it with the cap off see if that helps
So this ain’t the problem with my engine it but my engin is kinda new not very old no problems and there was oil in the head because it was flipped for a second. It will start but won’t stay alive and it’s getting gas
It should clear up after a bit. After it starts get it to rev and keep it there for a while. Should clear it out.
your prob. was low oil shut off. they screw up and not let the engine fire unhook it.
That is one thing I didn't cover in this video and it was "unhooked". Thanks for watching

Gotta get all the life out of them. That clutch is not on there anymore. I put a cvt on it right after this video went up

So......we really didn't learn what was wrong.
im sure the compression release was the issue. some thing was jammed in there and fell out because it starts first pull now. i know you cant see it sorry for that...thanx for watching
"Had to been 1 of those 4 things".... Well no... That's where ur wrong.. valves could not of been (that) far out where it magically wouldn't start the next day.... Carb was cleaned that would of been an instant result ... Fly wheel key .. it's fine.. take the cam out lol.... Nothing .... Heck it may not of had spark and he's pulling the can out!!!! Lol.... Then magically he says we'll sometimes pulling it apart and putting it back together just fixes it lol.... WRONG .... Probably low on oil and when he "checks" the can and rips it apart fills it back up lol.... What a goof... Ur "trouble shooting" reminds me of a truck driver trying to "fix" his trk when he is very incompetent .... Better luck next time on the guessing game .
