I personally think it's very difficult to compare the all time great horses(and we all know who they are)across generations. That being said, whether you think Frankel's the best you've ever seen or not, there's no question that by anyone's standards he was a rare, special talent that the likes of doesn't come around very often at all. But like all things that are special we only got the chance to enjoy him for just brief moment in time. I feel privileged to have been alive to bear witness.

Watch his 2000 GNS Win, I have never seen a horse keep such momentem up for so many furlongs with out taking a breath. As for times he posted, it really does matter what the ground is like and wind direction. I have seen an ordinary handicaper post a track record faster then any group 1 horse has ever posted at the track etc so you have to look at all the pointer facters. Not saying Frankel is the Best ever but he is certainly the best I have ever seen in my life as a Miler etc

The biggest price he ever traded at n the exchanges in all 14 aces, was the 8 (7-1) -laid when he went clear in that race and the so called professionals took a view that he simply could not keep that up.. Kinda mad that the best price he ever was came when he was ten lengths clear in a race !

STS won from a mile to a mile and a half. In NH racing Arkle had two handciaps, one for when he was in the race, and they had another for when he wasn't. Frankel is hardly the greatest 'horse'. He was the best miler, for sure.

I don’t agree with you. Arkle was in a era of time when the standard of NH horses was very poor. Mill House was the only horse at that time who was anywhere near him. As the handicap suggested at that time. Arkle was two stone better than most horses. Golden Miller was better than Arkle.

I wish Frankel would've raced in the Breeders cup... are great horses like Frankel and winx so "provincial" that their owners/trainers are afraid the change of continent will really make a dent in them? Personally(selfishly?) I loved pick 3's and 4's using the euro grass horses w/ my handicapping to make big scores, ie, St.Nicholas Abbey, 2011.

Trainers get too much credit when a great horse comes on the scene. It's all in the blood. The great horses just need to be left alone, they are not 'traiend' to greatness. The best blood, combined with being raised on the limestone grass in the center of Ireland (the real secret) that gives horses the best conformation. All hail Galileo.

How can they call horses world champions when they only race in their local areas? a Horse like A.P.O'Briens horse Johannesburg, he could be caled a World Champion 2yo. He raced in UK, Ireland and France, never beaten, then went to the "world" championships, and beat all the American horses. He is the closest i suppose you can get to a world champion. I suppose thje Dubai World Cup is the next best thing?

      Christy Dolan
Great points. I do believe that Sea the Stars was the superior horse. Frankel won well, was spectacular over certain trips and ground. The ones i mean are obvious, but i do believe we saw he's limit when he almost got caught on the line that time. Sea the Stars had so much faith in hes abilities from he's owners and trainners they weren't babystepping him and nitpicking races for him. They knew frankel would go into certain races, and the french horses wouldn't come over for them due to certain factors such as being on the wrong side of england meaning long as road work i think. STS though, they put him against all comers in ALL the big races. Don't forget he won the Champion Stakes aswell, like WELL. So you're talking Champion Stakes, The Arc in France (against lots of the best european french horses) AND the feckin Derby in a romp. Now, you can say "what did he beat", my answer? he beat what they put infront of him. Same as Frankel, same as Zenyatta, Same as Black Caviar, same as American Pharoah etc. STS can't do any better than he did as the horses weren't ther. Or maybe they were and he was just so much better than them you know?
I don't get the older generations love for the older horses. They always say "The best horses of all time were Brigadier, Nijinsky and all those. As it's obvious that they'[re being viewed through rose tinted glasses. Now i saw those races after the fact and also got goosebumps. lord knows what it felt like watching those horses live you know? But agian, you can't let emotions get in the way when judging horses, because if thats the fact you see what we're seeing. "No horse could ever beat these particular set of horses that just happened to all be around roughly the same time all luckily in the era when i first got into racing and got to know it well". Get me? Like my "Golden Era" for horses was the early 2000's. So in my eyes for a long time, no horse could beat the following horses on their day, as i had an emotional attachment to them, as it was my first forray into horse racing when i actually started to fully understand it and the bloodlines and stuff, so brings back alot of lovely memories and watching some of those races still gives me goosebump. I'm talking about Hawk Wing, Rock of Gibralter, Landseer, HIGH CHAPARRAL (my fav of all time, just loved him, never let me down when i backed him), Giant's Causeway, Galileo, Fantastic Light, Grandera, Alamshar, Falbrav, Moon Ballad, Islington, Russian Rhythm (another female machine), Six Perfections, Johannesburg and many more. They were all in their way brilliant. And to say "Nope, all the horses from my golden era are just better" is just Vanity. You have to be subjective, and not be emotionally attached. The perfect people for this would be big time gamblers. Who have no loyalty to any horse or set of bloodlines, they just back all the favorites.
So what I'm saying here is, although he wasn't my favorite horse. Why isn't Galileo rated the best horse of all time? He came up against in many races, and beat in many races Fantastic Light, who was an absolute monster of a horse, was just completely overraced. I mean, Fantastic light, after he'd had those duels with Galileo, went on to win the breeders cup beating APOB's Milan, a very good horse, Timboroa, and Blazing Fury from amercica on their own ground. So looking at Galileo, even though he went down to fantastic like by a half a length in a crazy neck and neck hair raising duel to the line in i think the champion stakes, you have to remember the 3rd horse was left back 8 lengths behind, and another 5 back to the next. Both of these horses were just leagues above their competition, and the only compeition they had was eachother. So there's a VERY good case for Galileo to be best of all time due to Fantastic light only winning half he's races due to being run ragged by Godolphin, and then Galileo winning the Derby going away by lengths and recording the 2nd fastest time in recorded history, like over a hundred years and runnings of the race. Not only that, he goes on to prove that he's a machine in blood also, basically taking up he's father's mantle and surpassing him in some cases.
The worst sin i think though is ONLY considering English and Irish horses as candidates for being the best ever, why is that? I mean, how can we say with any confidence that Frankel or Sea the Stars was better than Zenyatta? Zenyatta was a come from behind horse, that never put a foot wrong, and won 19 of 19 races, ALL coming from the vesy back and swooping past them with a crazy sprint finish. WHy isn't she considered? I mean, she is the only female horse in like 35 years to win the Breeders Cup Classic. And nearly fucking done it again the next year and actually had it only for a jockey error in not pushing her up a couple of length further around the back where she needed to be to finish faster than the 2 boys that were her main rivals, she was the best horse that day even though she lost, e just left her with about 13 lengths to make up in a 3 furlong sprint if you get me? she would have been 20/20 and not oinly been the only female horse in history to win the classic, but almost the only female in history to win 2. I mean, the mighty Giant's Causeway and the incredible arc winner and multiple Grade 1 winning Sakhee couldn't even win the classic and they were monsters.
Why isn't she even considered and is not even mentioned in the same breath as Frankel.
Also what about Black Caviar. THE..like THE only horse in history to win every single race she ever ran at the highest level, and it's not like she only ran 11 or 14 times like Frankel, she won like 22/22 or something like that. Even winning against europe's best sprinters on ground she wasn't use to that was way softer than she's used to, and bar a stupid jockey error would have won it a little easier than it looked. Winning eased down still, she still got it done.
Now, we can argue about what horse beat the better opponents, but to be honest, with most of these horses we love, after a couple of years, no one even remembers the horses who they beat, as they could only beat who they were put against. I for sure think the more notable horses behind STS were more impressive. Whereas off the top of my head i can only realy remember excellebration being behind Frankel. And that French horse once.
Now don't get me wrong, if they hadn't been wankers and didn't deprive us of seeing Frankel in the Derby and the Arc like sea the stars, i would NO problem put him up there in the top 5 horses of all time. But i just cant do it considering he only won races in he's own back garden, never being put through travelling over seas like other great horses did, and faced almost exclusively only English and irish horses. If he'd have won the arc and the deby, no question he'd be near the top of the list, but again, was he better than Zenyatta, Black Caviar, Rachel Alexander, Curlin, American Pharoah, Barbaro? Azeri, Arazi, Da Hoss, Personal Ensign, My Flag, Sunday Silence, Easy Goer, Brigadier, Shergar, Nij etc? I'm not too sure to be honest, i do think a few of those were superior based on the not so easy to judge performances of the better names horses behind them you know?
I don't think Franek did even HALF as much as what he needed to do to get onto that elite list. Not he's own fault of course, the horse never put a foot wrong and when he did that one time, he got up anyway. Here's another thing that you have to look at. You say that sts ONLY beat the likes of Conduit. And you watched Frankel run the field absolutely RAGGED in the 2000 Guineas winning by 6 lengths right? And STS only won by 2 length. But here's the catch, Almost the same ground and conditions, Sea the Stars clocked a time about 1 and a half seconds faster than Frankels time. Meaning theoretically if they raced on the same day in the same race at their best, you have to say that Frankel would have been ahead of the field by 6 lengths, but STS would have come 3rd behind Conduit and about 3 lengths behind Sea the Stars, and that was arguably one of Frankels 2 best performances? Am i totaly off here?
If you don't rate Zenyatta, Rachel Alexander, Curlin, American Pharoah, Sunday Silence, Secreteriat, Black Caviar, Galileo, Giant's causeway, Azeri, Tiznow and the likes up there as the very best of the best and at least challenege VERY closely Frankel to that top spot, it's nothing more than ignorance and romanticism towards a horse that made your hair stand up, when all of those horses mentioned did the same for others.
Lastly, American Pharoah was the first horse in over 30 years to win the American Triple crown AND he then went on to OBLITERATE the field in the Breeders Cup Classic. You can say "yeah but he lost to a horse after that and before the BC", but yeah, the next time he faced that same horse that beat him, he beat him by 12 lengths. but he was still almost 3 seconds outside Secreteriat's time in the last leg of the Triple Crown where he won by about 20 lengths, so im almost certain. 99% that secreteriat would have definitely beaten Frankel on that day even if it was over a mile 2 and not a mile and a half... why? Because Secreteriat was the only horse and still is the only horse ever, to win it by 20 or more lengths.. and maybe most impressively, ran every section time, faster than the last. Always accelerating, never slowing. Meaning each Quarter mile was recorded in under 20 seconds or something, and each one was always faster than the last one. You decide! Great talking with you, as you at least have an objective point of view like me

er., Frankel only raced in hes own back yard. against almost ALWAYS the same horses. he didn't try 1.4. He avpided the derby, even though it was only up the road, avoided the arc, onlly across the river basicaly. STS didn't give a fuck, he went anywherem Uk, ireland, france, and trounced anything that was put in front of him. And remember, Even though STs was supposed to be a "middle distance specialist". he still beat frankel's fastest mile by over a second in the guineas. i don't mean to be rude, but he only raced in england,. he did fuck all. just raced against the usual suspects with the odd horse that travelled over to face him, he went nowhere. Remember, STS woin most of the races Frankel did, but then he also Blitz the Derby AND the Arc fields. get your head out of your arse.
Calling him a World Champion, best the world has ever seen, when he never raced outside he's back garden lol.
If thats the case what about American Pharoah, why isn't he the best in the world ever? Because he only raced locally in the states. Even though he's the only horse in HISToRY to win the Triple crown AND the breeders Cup classic in record time.
      Please grow up.
STS in the same conditions beat Frankels 2000 guineas, even though he was supposed to be a middle distance horse. You just don't have a clue. Not a single one. If he even racedrous. in ireland, france, OR the derby, JUST once... and won well, he STILL wouldn't be the best. If he won ALL of those, sure, maybe. But STS beat Frankels mile, then he won the same races over 1.2, but THEN he won in ireland, won the fucking Derby AND then trounced the Arc in a super fast time. Please use your head, Take of the rose tinted glasses.
Saying a horse is the best the world has ever seen after seeing him face the same horses like 4 times in a row, over tracks within only a hundred or so miles from eachother. Never on a plane or a boat. Is preposterous
