dreamcatcher \:D/ handong went to china to do a tv show so she's missing in scream. the masked dancer is her placeholder. she was suppose to return for the following album with title track boca, but this was 2020 so you know what happened and travel restricted delayed her return. she did return for odd eye which is the final part of the dystopia trilogy. where's deja vu reaction :D, you going to get an angry mob soon lol
I KNOW the deja vu video being missing is bothering me. It might wait until Tuesday. I had a whole moment with Handong in that video so that's why it's bugging me especially
They have the live band version of dystopia trilogy: scream, BOCA, and odd eye performances in their online concert, the live band with the guitar riffs really make Scream on to another level
Their videos tend to go pretty deep and in many cases the storytelling is not linear, moreover everything (colors, poses, objects) have very deep symbolic meaning, so let me give a little bit deeper background on this one: Dystopia Trilogy: This trilogy talks about Cyberbullying and the power of language and how it can hurt someone if used in a negative way. It portrays their attempt at facing the Dystopian reality that is hidden in the world of social media. The center of the story is the tree of language that is turning black due to negativism after the curse of the evil language was released (depicted as opening Pandora's box in Scream) and the light provided by positive words fade out. The order of the title tracks is: Scream (Hear no Evil) - happening in the Past - Fantasy vibes Boca (Speak no Evil - Boca is the Spanish word for mouth) - Present timeline Odd Eye (See no Evil) - Futuristic vibes Now some info in the M/V: The dancer with the mask on is reserving the spot for Handong. (stuck in China due to CoVid so she was neither here, nor in Boca. ) First you mostly see the members wearing white, that is their pure uncorrupted form and they gradually take on the black outfit after waking up to new world of hatred. The masks otherwise represent anonymity provided by social media. 4:41 is when Gahyeon breaks the container of the curse and negativism starts spreading (Explosion around the tree) It is also shown that this has happened some time in the past and negativism is ever since part of our society. (4:44 the ancient texts light up) 4:49 they point fingers at her for doing it. Similar to their other M/Vs the storytelling is not linear. In Scream the members are already wearing black but still asleep at the beginning 1:13. ("My covered eyes are stained with blood") 1:51 shows the loss of the white form. There is even a transitioning outfit with JiU with White on top of black 1:54. The purple fog with the evil words 2:04 is the curse basically, the scenes with purple with black outfit are the corrupted areas. We see how the spreading works in the bridge when Siyeon is still wearing white 5:09 while the other six members are already in black and around the now corrupted tree (purple) and they walk away from her wearing some black already and in 5:28 she wakes up wearing black. It is also important to note that one of the important message is how the "Please I don't want to scream" turns into Siyeon eventually singing "I just want to make you scream", meaning that basically negativism corrupts people turning them from victims to perpetrators. 5:36 "Dami: and one by one everyone becomes crazy". And finally now all of them wearing black walk away. And we arrive to Boca where in our current time everyone can but should not use hate speech.
Oh, off-camera they are very goofy. Just check out their self-made clip "Sahara". Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.
you should check out this full album if youre interested! (the tree of language) it has some bangers and a number of their best bsides are in this album

@@compactrhythm Looking forward to it! It was my favorite K-pop release in 2021 (mind you that I'm a diehard Dreamcatcher fan and they released Odd Eye and BEcause in 2021, but that Pink Fantasy song was just THAT good to take the first place for me)
@@compactrhythm Sahara is a song from the same album as Scream. It wasn't going to get an MV from the company, so the members produced their own MV for it while they were waiting backstage to perform Scream at music shows. Turtle mating sounds on national TV, maybe that's all I needed to say... If you want some heavier kpop you should listen to some k-bands. Onewe and xdinary heroes are k-bands that have just had comebacks if you're interested. Onewe released off-road which is a summer song and xdinary heroes released instead which is a metal song and their heaviest song to date.
I’m glad that more people are reacting to Dreamcatcher🥺 As an InSomnia since 2018-19 this makes me so happy for them
