I think what contributes to Boca's popularity is Dami's rap, it went viral on social media. And possibly Siyeon's high note...they started giving more of it on their next title tracks
what impressing is that in every stage of BOCA, the main vocal of this group, Siyeon just hits the high notess everytime after having such intense dance moves
I call Boca the epitome of Dreamcatcher genre, nothing shows it better even after all these years. Rock or metal sounds fused with any other genre they feel like, moombahton at the beginning of Boca. Big tonal shifts in the same song both in music and vocal from soft and angelic to Dami's ferocious animal attack, her words. And, as always, VOCALS all around. Scream, Boca, Odd Eye are the title tracks they promoted in the Dystopia trilogy. Sahara, Break the Wall, Poison Love are the self-made videos that go along with each title track respectively. Handong couldn't be in the first two so they made her the star of the third one. There is also a Play Color video of Wind Blows that has been safe for reactors, comes with a mild spice warning they all look REALLY good at the same time.
6:05 Gods blood is gold, so she’s crying blood. 11:19 Handong still stuck in China during Covid-19 era and couldn’t be in these 2 mini-album (Scream and Boca), she’ll be back in the next one [Odd Eye]. I’d like to see you react to another great song of them ‘BEcause’ , maybe you might love it as i do. 😊
Loving your DC reactions! Odd Eye is up next and Handong will be back for that one. Boca's popularity is mostly due to Dami's first rap section. It went super viral when it came out and I'll still see people occasionally get into DC and when they get to Boca they're always like "this is where that's from?!" When you get to the album reactions I think you'll really like the b-side "Break the Wall" from this EP. Boca is all about telling haters to shut their boca (mouth). This whole dystopia trilogy is a social commentary on hate speech, online bullying, and how toxic the internet can be. This trilogy came out after several idols ended their lives, in large part to online harassment. Looking forward to that Deja Vu reaction that you already filmed as well.
You see, my first few listens I had the same opinion that the chorus of Boca was disconnected from the rest of the song, but then, one day, it clicked, and it clicked so much this song grew to be still like a top 3 title tracks for me. I think once you notice the little elements of production that set up the chorus, the song becomes incredibly cohesive, and it has some of the most memorable moments of their discography like Dami and Gahyeon's rap, Sua Pre-chorus and Siyeon's High note finale.
dreamcatcher \:D/ yeah boca is a bit out there lol. it's popular because it has more 'kpop' elements and of course the dami rap. personally and I know this is unpopular among many insomnias, boca is pretty low on my ranking 😅. the dystopia trilogy in general is low on my ranking. the nightmare series(chase me, good night, fly high, you and I, what, piri) and the apocalypse trilogy(maison, vision, bon voyage) are way better as are their b-sides. but that's the thing with dc, they always mix it up so there's always going to be something for everyone and that's why not all songs will vibe with everyone. it's rare for a dc songs to reuse musical elements used in the past. for example, boca is the only song that uses a reggaeton beat. even the rock elements used differ from song to song as you know there's many sub-genres of rock. so if you listen to enough dc songs, especially the b-sides, you will see they touch pretty much every genre in music.
"What's even happening in this song, bro?" me when dreamcatcher 😊if you're looking for other "music videos" from Tree of Language, there's Red Sun, Sahara, and Black or White. All very much worth your time. (SuA choreographed Red Sun which makes it extra fun). For this album, there's also "Break the Wall" as a music video. A very professional, high budget music video that takes itself very seriously. Mhm.
Boca is a Moombahton Rock song as weird as it sounds. It has extreme strong switches even by K-Pop standards. This also means it is very unique and not easy to process as your ear is not used to it. Check out a few versions and let it grow :D
Yet it's still their most popular song, which is unusual in Kpop because genre switches like this aren't often well-received by the general public. Look at NMIXX's O.O. Look at Red Velvet's Zimzalabim. Look at aespa's Next Level. Sure they might be well-loved and are considered as iconic by fans now since they've already warmed up to them, but when they were released, pretty much all of them got heavily criticized or even shitted on for the abrupt genre switches. But BOCA didn't face the same backlash or criticism. Yes not everyone loved it at first listen, but most InSomnias did, including me. We were worried that the moombahton-rock fusion wouldn't work, some even predicted that this could be their first flop song, but look at how the tables turned completely. Why is it? Because they did it right. The structure, the individual parts, the build-up, the small details they've incorporated, the melodies, and of course, the INCREDIBLE vocal talents of these girls, all these elements were combined to make an otherwise weird, jarring, and a potential musical mess, into a perfect blend of contrasting sounds, working together instead of clashing against each other. And that is why BOCA is a successful song among its kind.
I get what you said about the chorus being the weakest part, I don't dislike it but I agree (the verses are really good tho). The thing I like about this songs is that it really shows a lot of sides from them, we vibing in the beginning, then surprise rap with the beat change, after that heavenly vocals and then the rock element gets incorporated. My theory is that the song works because you can't feel bored if they keep changing some elments everytime, at the very least it's gonna keep you attention.
Another extra information for you. If you want to know more abt Dreamcatcher, I suggest you to watch videos abt them on YT channel called INSOMNICSY. Actually there are a lot of other channels which discussing abt them, but that channel is the one who often uploaded videos abt Dreamcatcher and become reference for many InSomnia (including me also😁) Another extra info for you too : Dreamcatcher also collaborating with Producer Han Dongcheol and his production company Funky Studio to produce their own first reality show. For the reality show that I said earlier, you can already watch total of those 10 episodes which have been released on their official YT channel. I can absolutely guarantee that you will be laughing as hell to see their craziness when you watch their reality show😂 Once again, thank you so much for this reaction video. Boca is DC's most popular song but it doesn't mean its the best. I discovered DC with this song during the pandemic and what hooked me was the first few lines with Gahyeon then the pre chorus with Sua and Siyeon, and then the unexpected guitars on the chorus. It was unlike anything I have heard from what I used to listen from kpop and was instantly hooked. And for me Boca is not even on my top 5 DC title tracks, but it still is a really good song for me. 🔥
Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and is part 2 of the Dystopia trilogy, which deals with bullying and hate comments, in particular the online variant ("A trick behind a mask, a ridiculous freak" from Scream). Boca has the lines "Why do you fill your precious time with hate" and "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in recent years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about all the unnamed people who suffer from online bullies. A girlgroup tackling such a subject impresses the hell out of me. They literally go to war in this video and tell haters to go and shut their "Boca" in the lyrics. And the song is absolutely awesome! Who said you can't have three different musical genres in one song?
Aye, you guessed SuA and Siyeon's heavenly vocals correctly, of course. Parts of SuA in this song are my favorite by far, and imagery of her from these scenes is on my phone wallpaper. Notice that Siyeon's name is pronounced "she-yawn", not "see-yawn", that's peculiarities of korean phonetics.
Clarification: July 7 is the name of a Dreamcatcher song. Because EVERY rock group has a reggae song about a Chinese folk tale of lovers separated who can only see each other on the 7th day of the 7th month each year, right?
@@compactrhythm Like everything Dreamcatcher, it's not 100% "pure" reggae of the past it's a fusion of mostly reggae sounds and vibes topped with gorgeous vocals etc. etc. but... it's a reggae song. Edit: when you get to know Dreamcatcher better you'll understand fans' reactions to sentences that start, "There's no way they..." 😉. It's like saying there's no way during covid lockdowns they got bored and filmed their own k-drama parody complete with Siyeon's original background music.
Oh wait one of my viewers from a stream a while ago recommended their song Ladida to me. Idk when or if i'll upload that reaction but in short: that song was life changing and i always go back to it. "Everglow forever lets go" truly the bar of all time. Their whole discography is absolutely premium content. their latest song, zombie (and the bsides too) is a work of art and the group deserves so much more love from their fans and company.
