Yes, racing incident but it's definitely been caused by Checo's stubbornness.

It's for me also a racing incident, but i don't know how much the sun had a role in that.
The hards in Baku were the C3, the tyres that are used in every race, so one would expect every team would have learnt how to make them work properly by now. The sun wasn't even that low but that camera angle is unfortunate because it shoots right in its direction.

Piastri let Leclerc cook his tires on dirty air for over 30 laps, with 5 laps remaining he started pushing and with Leclerc tires gone he was flying off to the horizon, had like 4 or 5 seconds gap by the final lap. Dude is turning into a monster driver. Not to mention the overtake on lap 19 or 20 iirc. If Lando doesn't win WDC this season it'll be really hard next season with Piastri getting better and better with each race.
Shoutout to the tyres. Without them holding up for a number of laps on full push mode from all of the top 3, the race would have been absolutely boring.
Right? Russel's post race interview where he said the tyres are "simply not good enough" because the Mercs performance is inconsistent on them really annoyed me. Other teams are doing fine, and it's producing great racing and high stake strategy calls.
I can't remember a race this tight, with so many drivers, different teams, for this many laps, especially on a track where miss it by a couple centimeters and they'll be sweeping up your car. It was so intense. Logan would have crashed in practice and in the race 100% because it is capable of speed, and he couldn't find the feeling, simple as that. Franco is nailing it so far. Both he and Ollie smashing up had to happen if you think about it. They have to learn where the grip is and probably the toughest braking zones they've seen in the most complex racing machine created. What Toto said about Kimi makes so much sense. but man! I was expecting a meme from that moment both Oscar and Charles, drifting over the exit curbs at the same time... wow, that was exciting, those guys going for it.
My only thing with the crash is yes Carlos squeezed a bit but Perez had like 2 car widths to get out of he way and avoid the contact. He also had a better view and picture of how close he was
Honestly, he said on the radio "this was the most stressful day of my life" and he was probably so freaking emotionally exhausted that all he had in the tank was a subdued "yesss". Sainz wasmt trying to get the slipstream. That was his racing line. The stewards even noted this. Read the report, it was one of the best investigation reports ive seen. Sergio was the one driving not "normal".
Carlos was taking the racing line, but he could still have been more aware of what's at his side. Checo should have known how the racing line goes and overall been more attentive of how Carlos is driving when he wasn't even doing any sudden movements but just steadily veering left like the racing line does. But one thing that no one seems to mention is that the visibility might have been one factor. It happened on the back straight, where the low sun was shining directly along the track. I think it's quite understandable that Checo for example would be blinded by it for a moment so that he couldn't notice Carlos veering to the left quite well enough.
Sainz was not going straight. The only one that went straight was perez. Did sainz had space to the right? Why should perez move to the left if sainz has space to the right?
Hard to Swallow Pill: If the drivers were reversed, people would be blaming Lance for ruining Yuki's race and closing the door on him when he was clearly already there. Everyone would still blame Lance and be yelling about him not using his mirrors, but because it was Yuki not paying attention, it's Lance's fault.
George Russell's season in a nutshell: "Sometimes maybe good, Sometime maybe shit!" Two god-given podiums (and one win), but at the same time, one brake test crash and one DSQ
Oscar strikes me as the kind of guy who nonchalantly and quietly sings "hippity hoppity your position's my property" as he overtakes on track. Completely unflappable.
I was wondering if the wheel spin call was something of an inside joke. It's what we'd probably think were it GP to Max, or Bono to Lewis. 2024: front and rear wings flexing despite passing all static load tests is considered to be *just fine*, and the FiA wants to collect data first before they decide whether or not teams have to change it for next season
I miss Matt saying the finishing order as quickly as he could :'( always funny, and social media team championship!
As stupid as it was, Race Rundown was always a highlight for me.
I nearly forgotten about that 😂 but yes bring them both back
I imagine there's probably some IP issue with what's left of WTF1 around Matt doing these on this channel
I don't, it was silly and I always skipped it. 😂
I navigated away from the video as fast as I could when he did that
Piastri let Leclerc cook his tires on dirty air for over 30 laps, with 5 laps remaining he started pushing and with Leclerc tires gone he was flying off to the horizon, had like 4 or 5 seconds gap by the final lap. Dude is turning into a monster driver. Not to mention the overtake on lap 19 or 20 iirc. If Lando doesn't win WDC this season it'll be really hard next season with Piastri getting better and better with each race.
Let’s go Oscar race of the year
Shoutout to the tyres.
I love Piastris character, please dont change :D
I can't remember a race this tight, with so many drivers, different teams, for this many laps, especially on a track where miss it by a couple centimeters and they'll be sweeping up your car. It was so intense.
Logan would have crashed in practice and in the race 100% because it is capable of speed, and he couldn't find the feeling, simple as that. Franco is nailing it so far. Both he and Ollie smashing up had to happen if you think about it. They have to learn where the grip is and probably the toughest braking zones they've seen in the most complex racing machine created. What Toto said about Kimi makes so much sense.
but man! I was expecting a meme from that moment both Oscar and Charles, drifting over the exit curbs at the same time... wow, that was exciting, those guys going for it.
honestly, landos defense against verstappen was great to watch as well. verstappen had 10 laps newer tires than norris
My only thing with the crash is yes Carlos squeezed a bit but Perez had like 2 car widths to get out of he way and avoid the contact. He also had a better view and picture of how close he was
Please never change Oscar. The "YYesshhh" on the radio is just cold af
He's not afraid to beat people off, eh? 3:10
Heh
That's why he's Zak and Andreas favorite😂
6:48 "The Sun" - the drivers (like Perez and Sainz) and their dashcams, also couldn't see after turn 2
1:06 Bruh 💀
Whoever made that, thank you
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I always look forward to funniest tweets!! I love this series!!
That Happy Gilmore meme genuinely made me laugh🤣
Baku has not been boring since 2018 lol. It was boring in 2023 but that’s it. 2021 was awesome and 2022 was good.
The learning curve for Oscar is an “I” 😂.
Duh of course checo was the one not normal, he was off the racing line, but he was still there 😂
Ofc it was mostly Checo's mistake. How can some people think 'Carlos turned into him' and defend it almost with their own life is beyond me.
Perez already had his tyre stick into front of Carlos' rear tyre, he is the reason to cause the crash
@@johart309i can. Carlos knew he was turning into him. Checo > Max
That Norris radio had me frozen with the most shocked confused face you could imagine... it sounded like something you'd say to a toddler💀😭
9:58 George also likes to bin it on the final lap at the end, so I guess what goes around comes around..?
I need a Tommy's Tasty Twerk meme next week 😂
Leave Oscar's mannerisms ALONE. Kimi left, but order has been restored by the Pastry man.
they got the DRS just right where you need cohones to overtake at turn 1
FYI: Logan Sargeant has been seen in the Indycar Paddock over the weekend. Aparently talking to teams and looking for a drive.
Probably asking "any cars you want me to crash?"
Have you seen, on Total Motorsport, the flexi DRS-flap on Oscars car?
Call me weird, but the sun made the Oscar and Charles' fight when panning out from the T1 shot so much more amazing
No Williams airbox meme?!
This was my first F1 race trackside and what a race it was!!!
That Albon holding up Perez meme is pure gold 😂
Can't wait for Singapore. I do kinda wish it was next week so we didn't have the long break so quickly after the Summer holiday.
amazing video as always!!
i think oscar doesnt celebrate like a child because hes being coachd but a great mak webber and I bet he told him to keep his cool and keep going
Mclaren have the most unhinged radio messages man
13:43 You've been gnome'd
I dont know how uk coverage was, but on german tv they used mostly the helicopter camera for the straight/turn 1
Sainz was following the racing line, he was in front of Perez. Either way, Perez is the stupid. In Baku or Monaco. He can choose now.
Honestly considering the distracting team radio, in Baku the drivers do have about 15 minutes of straight to talk to their engineer.
Oscar vs Charles is the new Lewis vs Max, and I love it
5:00, must be an inside joke, right? That same Andre Stella who said, "Let's go, baby!" in McLaren's reel shortly after the race.
Oscar saying yeeeess, when he won, was Napoleon Dynamite all day long. 😅
Just imagine how mental this WDC battle would be had max not been beasting it right at the start. Arghhh
it also helped that mclaren was fakin quick on the straits, but the move itsself to take the lead was big balls stuff
baku is a highlight every season for me.. such a unique track and there's actually passing. high safety car chance too. all in all entertaining imo
Perez is wishing he'd moved left and lined up the pass at the next corner.
Sainz was basically going straight. Perez could see this and didn't compensate. Racing incident for sure, but Perez more at fault surely?
Sainz was not going straight. The only one that went straight was perez. Did sainz had space to the right? Why should perez move to the left if sainz has space to the right?
@@juanrahernandez1288because sainz is ahead. In lap 1 the leader always ushers cars off to the side.
@@lolomgwtfbbqqqq he was not ahead, he was side to side with checo.
10:34 Sergio Perez, Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood all feel the same way right now.
@14:58 Yes, in ancient Chinese it's called schadenfreude. The weasel-like GR does thrive on it.
George Russell's season in a nutshell:
"Sometimes maybe good, Sometime maybe shit!"
Two god-given podiums (and one win), but at the same time, one brake test crash and one DSQ
🇮🇹 : Papaya Rules 😱
🇦🇿 : PAPAYA... RULES!!! 😍
15:08 There's even a t-pose!
Matt and Tommy, you race meme review is top notch.
Oscar strikes me as the kind of guy who nonchalantly and quietly sings "hippity hoppity your position's my property" as he overtakes on track. Completely unflappable.
I never expected that the weekend was gonna be good enough to overshadow Lando finally gaining a place on lap 1.
I was wondering if the wheel spin call was something of an inside joke. It's what we'd probably think were it GP to Max, or Bono to Lewis. It wasn't delivered in a harsh tone, it sounded pretty light to me. 🤷🏻♀️
(Edit: I should add that I think the info was genuine, just the Andrea on the shoulder thing being an inside joke.)
Also, I'm wondering if James Vowles is regretting signing Sainz...
