  • In this video, I will show you how to prune and clean up the Japanese maple Bonsai trees in the late fall. It's a good time to prune & remove the elongated and/or dead branches that you couldn't see during the growing season when leaves are starting to drop in late fall or later winter when you can see the silhouette and growth season is coming shortly.

    Great video, thanks so much for sharing! You should consider a voice over for your videos. Sometimes I'm not apt to watch a whole video if the topic is something I'm kind of familiar with. So what I do is play the video in the background while I'm working and I get great nuggets of wisdom this way. So having a voice over would make it easier to appreciate the videos. But either way thank you so much for sharing! 😊

    Great work on those Maples I enjoyed your video! I've recently wired a few trees. How long generally until you remove the wires?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. The duration of how long you leave the wires depends on when you wire & how quickly the tree is growing. If you wire them now, (late fall) you can leave them longer as the tree is not growing till Spring. During the growing season, I check more often (at least weekly) so wires don't bite into bark. If you wire trees in the spring, I expect that I'd need to remove them in 2 months or so (But it depends on how quickly the tree is growing and thickening the wired branches)

      Not in fall, cuttings are taken in the summer when the spring growth has hardened off. If there's no leaves the cutting won't grow roots and will just die

    Hi,
    I have a question about the wound paste! I can not read the signs on it suffer and also find no dealer here in Europe who offers this cut paste! Can you make me a translation of the label or provide a link with a source?
    Is this paste extra for maples, as there is this knead also for pines and once for deciduous trees?
    Thanks already for your great videos and I would be very happy about an answer!

      I use the cut paste Hi to seal bigger wounds & liquid one for smaller cuts. You can use it for both conifers and deciduous trees. 😁

    Hi,you Don t need some root protekcion from cold ? It can stand winter time ?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  3 роки тому

      Based on where I live (8b), my bonsai trees stay in an unheated greenhouse throughout the winter and do just fine. You may want to protect trees/roots from cold if you live in much colder climate.

    what is the biggest cut you will make at this time? Just pruning or structural?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  3 роки тому +4

      Based on my climate (8b), I do some structural pruning on my JM garden trees in the ground in late fall. For smaller bonsai trees, I do structual pruning / trunk chop in late winter before buds break (and no repotting) or summer.

    How long do you leave the wire on? All winter into the spring?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  3 роки тому +1

      Yes all winter into the spring. That's the advantage of wiring it now so it can stay there longer. You just need to be careful wiring as branches are hard and can break easily.
