Nash wrote in his book that SS had "an absolutely horrific childhood." The VERY few quotes from SS are indicative of something going on, but says, "I wasn't beaten." Used words like 'chaos'. BOTH parents were alcoholics. His father's tone of voice 'terrified' him. His mother was 'harsh with him.' His two sisters were 'loud.' In a way I almost wonder if the congenital hearing problem made it all worse. He really did used to run away to the bayou in rural Louisiana when he was very little and they sent him to a military boarding academy when he was TEN YEARS OLD. His father had a prison record in Texas and SS went to four high schools and graduated from one in Costa Rica. So... yeah, Jerry... things don't sound all that great for the kid, especially one who might have been sensitive and obviously small for his age. My husband is a pediatrician and has an additional theory, but I'm not going to speculate other than to say there's something obvious that once it is pointed out is hard to 'unsee.'
Steven Still's would walk into a room, with a FAT cigar in his mouth, with arms open as if saying, "Here i am, people." Graham Nash enters a room: He's quiet, humble, polite and shakes hands.

Frank Zappa and the girl & boys were really on that night.

As a disgruntled fan who had tickets to the '76 show and lost my money when they cancelled, I feel qualified to say: Tickets to any combination of these four guys BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK. Having said that I reiterate NEIL YOUNG IS A PROPHET.
@@Jamie-1985In the mid 70's neither Ticketmaster nor Beaver Productions refunded ticket prices when purchased in advance at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport. I should add this is likely due to the behavior of concert-goers whom had been bringing fireworks into the building for years. I have the mc's opening words permanently burned in my brain: "The fire marshall has asked me to announce that the use of fireworks inside the building is prohibited by federal law. A line which appeared on the album FZ and The Mothers of Invention Live at the Fillmore East 1971.
I paid to see Stephen Stills at Austin City Coliseum in the late ‘80s. His amp crackled once a few songs in, and he pulled his plug and walked off. Techs came out and messed with the amp, wires, etc., so that he came back out about 20 minutes later and played a few more songs. The amp crackled again. He pulled the plug, lifted his guitar over his head and cleared the strap, and slammed it down on the ground, walked off, and didn’t return. Tortured artist maybe, but it’s hard to forget that.

From all I've gathered Crosby & nash were where most of the problems in the group came from but everyone seems to have a different version of how it really was
Nah, she tried at first but backed off when Neil set her straight. She was just repeating what everyone thought which is understandable. She actually did a good job getting Neil to explain it - how Steven was so sensitive to what others said and that made him react negatively which in turn spurred Neil to leave because he was already itching to go solo. People assumed that Neil and Steven must have had personal differences but that really wasn't why Neil left.
When they got together last few times they wwimped out...too bad many top 40 garbage listeners and youtube requesters just want the awful stuff like wasted on the way
To the best of my knowledge, Graham Nash HAS NOT at any time relished having Neil Young in the band, period. Quite the opposite. Nash was very relieved when Neil walked away from the band to continue his solo career, as Graham felt that Neil's voice and his musical vision did not meld well with the band's sound and style. It's a FACT that Nash loathes Neil Young's singing.
I suppose it wasn't Neil's place to expose them. From what I've read he was still having problems with cocaine and alcohol at the time Neil did this interview. It's sad really
Crosby, Still and Nash was better without Neil Young. They never needed him. He doesn't contribute to those beautiful harmonies and Stills is a much better guitar player.
Sort of odd that artists do interviews. I like that Neil is telling the truth, but what does he gain from this? It just intrudes on this time. So, unless you're pitching, or the interviewer is a particularly enlightened or interesting person, why talk?
Seriously, he walked away from Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, other scheduled events, didn’t want to be filmed at Woodstock. Not a team player. I love his talent he is iconic, but he is a dick non the less.
Steven Stills has written and performed some of the greatest songs of our time. Neil and Steven go back to the early 60's I believe. They met before CSN even existed.
Nope, Neil did benefit concerts for disabled children ,farmers, environmental issues, humanitarian issues etc....................making millions of $$$$$$$$$$$ for these organizations. ALL iN THE U S A .
Ask MR Young what compelled him to move from Toronto Can to Laurel Canyon in the 60s. Youll never get a straight definitive answer other than a so called mysterious pull or attraction...
NEIL WANTS TO DO RIGHT BY HIMSELF, NEVER COMPLETELY IMMERSES IN A UNIT ... he brings his talent - not as good as STILLS - but, good skills and NOT HIS ALLIANCE, COMMITMENT as he will wander off to do what moves Neil at the moment !
The woman conducting the interview is a clueless dolt out of her depth. Here she is interviewing an extremely talented Rock Star who is patiently answering her questions.
Not sure why people are saying Neil was actually being nice here. I have a feeling Stills wouldn’t appreciate being called a fragile lil light bulb filament. Especially if he really is such a tortured artist. Young is just being a manipulative prick again.
People change with age. And not necessarily for the better. You can check posts by Stephen King for starters. But at least all what he writes is horror.
I think it was because rogan was making people eat bugs and worms and abusing steroids while Neil was doing benefit concerts for disabled children, farmers, environmental issues, humanitarian issues etc.............. making millions of $$$$$$$$$$ for these organizations, during the same time period.
I confess that most of you know more about csny that I, but my basic impression is that Stills and Nash are empathetic, good souls, and Crosby and young are narcissistic, toxic men who have emotionally damaged a lot of good people, and more times than not, have exploited the people who love them much more than reciprocating that love...and saying you love someone means very little when the evidence shows they are liars.
lest you forget, Neil has done benefit concerts for disabled children, farmers, environmental issues, humanitarian issues etc............making millions of $$$$$$$$$ for these organizations All in the U S A. how dare he do these things that actually help people.
Steve in my view is just like one of those sad Biblical characters. Suffering with negative human feelings. You know the ones. The ones the Bible rave on about all the time. One of man's biggest baddies is "jealousy". I think Steve has always resented Neil's fame. That's the "problem". Don't get me wrong here. Steve was one of the most "talented" artists of his time but never achieved the fame that Neil achieved. "Resentment" is another one. God, nothing has changed. People are really pathetic beings!

In a way I almost wonder if the congenital hearing problem made it all worse.
I like my artists to be tormented.
My wife's sister is an artist. She likes to torment us.
Stills is famous , but still underrated ..
Steven Still's would walk into a room, with a FAT cigar in his mouth, with arms open as if saying, "Here i am, people."
Graham Nash enters a room: He's quiet, humble, polite and shakes hands.
Man, you are right on there.
Neil would walk into a room and people would say, there's the man right there.
Everything is underrated to the modern drone, discovering everything for the first time. Hell, they think Starbucks invented coffee.
The arguing between the band members in CSNY was legendary.
Graham Nash was a drama queen!
The arguments must have been 12 hours long lol
@@RawOlympia Was he not speaking to Crosby when Crosby died do you happen to know? I saw an interview with Nash that wasn’t very old and he said he wasn’t speaking to Crosby at that time. I hope they reconciled before his death.
@@gerry1620 I have no idea but I think they may not have - only knew one person in that group, Anya, a hippie I interned under and Nash came by to pick up kids to sing about nuclear war and my cynical friends said it was so he didn't have to pay. Joni said David was the love of her life if you google and that may have hurt Nash. They are amazing to listen to! It has been too long and have indulged a little after years of abstinence. Deja Vu!
One of the immortal moments in recorded R&R history is when a teen groupie tries to tempt one of the members of The Mothers of Invention into her Gremlin by offering him "b-jobs, knotted nylons, bamboo canes, and three unreleased recordings of Crosby, Stills Nash, and Young fighting in the dressing room at the Fillmore East." @@Jamie-1985In the mid 70's neither Ticketmaster nor Beaver Productions refunded ticket prices when purchased in advance at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport. I should add this is likely due to the behavior of concert-goers whom had been bringing fireworks into the building for years. I have the mc's opening words permanently burned in my brain: "The fire marshall has asked me to announce that the use of fireworks inside the building is prohibited by federal law. If the use of fireworks continues the concert will be cancelled!" I attended more than a dozen shows in the mid to late 70's and this announcement was made at every single one. Their arguing and fighting was so legendary that it inspired Frank Zappa to write the line; "four unreleased recordings of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young fighting in the dressing room at the Fillmore East." A line which appeared on the album FZ and The Mothers of Invention Live at the Fillmore East 1971.

Nah, she tried at first but backed off when Neil set her straight. She was just repeating what everyone thought which is understandable. To the best of my knowledge, Graham Nash HAS NOT at any time relished having Neil Young in the band, period. Quite the opposite.
