I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Neil Young at a pre-release screening of his movie "Harvest Time" while I was employed at Paramount Studios as part of an events production crew. Very real down-to-earth guy. We chatted for a few minutes, I thanked him for his body of work, we shook hands and wished each other well. I've had a good life so far, blessed.

I did not have any feelings towards Neil Young’s music when I was a kid in the 1970s one way or another…
And then I saw him perform in 1985 at the first Farm Aid concert . When he played “Heart of Gold” for us, I finally understood and cried!

Fantastic conversation with one of my favorite musicians. I had the honor of working with award winning artist Dugald Stermer on a wild salmon poster in his studio, and he had a portrait of Neil he was working on for Rolling Stone Magazine. One artistic genius illustrating another one. Genius is the conventional mind releasing you from prison to be free to create and give the world your song.

Neil's singlemindedness was/is remarkable. So many people in their mid-teens, I include myself, either didn't have his belief in, or his focus on, the thing we may have wanted to do - if we had any notion of what that might have been. What a magnificent catalog has arisen from his determination and willingness to stand against the tide of public opinion.

An excellent interview. Love Neil's response/analyzation to the interviewer as a CEO how the thinking is done before the meeting(s) etc. Obviously Neil is a gifted musician who is seemingly very humble. I don't think there is an artist out there as authentic. His sound is so unique and has evolved over the years. I am a fan like many of all his classic material and have recently heard his decade or so old Ramada Inn and that is in par with other classics akin to Like a Hurricane and the like. Such a great song and guitar riff, Crazy Horse was spot on as well.

It's so fascinating listening to Neil explain how grateful he is to others for his success.
If you can't help others succeed you aren't making a difference.
But when it comes to helping others, nobody can be more giving than the person that risks everything, like the "orange headed man" that Neil so frequently blasts. He didn't need to make himself a target , he could have just enjoyed his success and ignore what was happening to the rest of us.
He's sacrificing everything to fight against oppression and greed and the tyrant lunatics that run this country.
That's not just helping others, that's selfless courage.
I can't possibly be more grateful for that kind of helping others. It's the ultimate gesture of kindness and humanity.

@@heynow01 Trump is obsessed with shutting "down the corruption that rules this country"? I don't know where you've been for the last nine years or so, but you've got it backward: corruption is Trump's life blood and life work. He lies as easily as he breathes, and he values himself and his cronies more than he does the Constitution and the citizens of the country that he has unfortunately just been re-elected to lead. Neil Young is right to be dismayed by Trump.

All of the thinking about the music's logic, fluency, rhythm, and overall musicality while practicing over and over, often done one layer at a time, will become incorporated in the performance where the hands, themselves, if you are a guitar player for example, spontaneously know what to do without thought and quite amazingly.

I've enjoyed Neil's music since I was a kid. He's done some beneficial things during his life for other people but some of his song lyrics are disrespectful to God which is disappointing. In 'Cortez The Killer' he hints at a belief in reincarnation which contradicts the Bible. I hope & pray that Neil acknowledges Jesus before it's his time to depart this plane of existence.

We each have to grapple, on our own, with the mystery and challenges of being here. The Internet, through Napster, killed the music industry, including album sales and advances for albums--today the only significant income stream for musicians is touring. In addition--and Neil feels very passionately about this--digital music and streaming have destroyed what music sounds like--it sounds like absolute crud compared to LPs, cassettes, reel-to-reel, and even 8-tracks. The Internet kills everything it touches--it's killed journalism and politics too, but those are other stories. And of course I am writing this--on the Internet.

Understood, Robert. Thank you. Less money for the artist part, that definitely is easy to understand. And audiophiles must grit their teeth hearing digitalized music. As a Boomer, like Neil, I grew up listening to vinyl. Somehow, with my impaired hearing, when I listen to music on upper end noise canceling headphones, sounds great to me!
Also, I remember Neil developed and marketed a device that was supposedly to restore analog sound to digital music. The crtics panned it and, to my knowledge, was a commercial flop.

I have a "Freedom of Speech Tour" T-shirt from CSNY's 2006 tour. I often wore it proudly as my favourite artist stood for what is right ... until ole Neiler pulled his catalogue from Spotify in his sellout efforts to suppress Drs. Malone and McCollough's free speech (and my right to hear what they have to say). Until ole Neiler apologizes for his blatant hypocrisy, I'll never wear any of my Neil Young T-shirts ever again.

How can such a knowledgeable, intelligent, "successful", innovative, social warrior become such a corporate sellout as Niel seemingly has become as of late? This man's late public support for tyranny completely erases any positive contributions he has ever made to society in my mind and I cannot unhear the things he has put out there. It just shows the selfishness of famous people who have literally sold their soul for personal gain. I only clicked here in order to give my two cents about niel young

I loved Neil when I was younger, but somewhere along the line he turned from fighting ‘the man’ into being ‘the man’, and forgot everything he once tried to stand for.

Rogan completely changed his persona from a Bernie Bro to a Trump acolyte. He has no core - just in it for the money. Neil is the opposite. He is what he has always been - true to his core.
