I think Buddhism is a philosophy. The Buddha explained the way of life, every aspects of life and how to deal with the suffering, the reason for our suffering. It is so calming to listen to this priest. I was hurt by something someone said to me and was searching for a way to ease the hurt I was experiencing. While listening to this preaching, I have found my Karma. This helped a lot to deal with my predicament. I'm still listening to the preaching. As he said, some people can be very insensitve, they do nasty things to other people. Some people are power crazy, greedy, selfish and they just don't think before they say things or react angrily to trivial situations that can be solved with compassion and understanding. I'm trying to abandon the unwholesome suffering I feel right now.

Ajahn Jayasaro is wise, calm and articulate. Even better, he speaks from experience, not ideas about experience. He's authentic....proof that the path works if we apply ourselves to it fully. Gratitude!

What you want is the excuse to get to go from here to over there. It’s the day-to-day unfolding. It’s the meaning of interaction. It’s the stimulation of thought. It’s the new ideas that flow to you. It’s the thrill of formulating a decision and knowing you’re nowhere near vibrational harmony with the decision. Abraham Hicks

I've noticed prideful-humility before, but I've never clearly cognized it. It's a really subtle trap of the mind. As soon as someone says that it is good to be humble or anything else, that thing can become a trap of conceit. I suppose that's why it's good to avoid thinking in terms of "should be", as Ajahn Jayasaro said.

Belief systems are not confined to the Middle East. :) Mahayana Buddhism is very close too. Many strands of Hinduism are belief systems too.
The correct distinction should have been between theistic and non theistic approaches.

Discovered him. Im no buddhist, but i like the philosophy. But he talked about sex and stuff like that as desire. Sex is in our dna from evolution... If people want to resist that, they can try. But i don't know if it will help in being happy and at peace. For some maybe. But sex can also give peace of mind.
But i like many of his thoughts on subject. Im learning or trying to learn more on buddhism...

From what I have learned from many dharma teachings, Buddha did not told us to resist sexual desire. Buddha did not told us to control our mind or to suppress our feelings. He told us to see it as it is. When sexual desire arises see it as it is. When sexual desire performs in our emotion, see its performance as it is. Later on we will see it ends or dies away. All things (including all kinds of emotions) are subjected to the rule of happening, existing and ending.

Actually if you observe deeper, you will find that arises of sexual desire are from unsatisfaction and mild anxiety. It is similar with drug addiction. When a person is satisfied by doing something else , sexual desire does not come to mind and body even if you have enough hormone

In my opinion I see the dukka is not opposite to the sukkah since the sukkah is also the dukka : it’s changed and eventually ended. Both are unstable exist only temporarily. Satu.

That "misinformed westerners" "misinterpret Buddhism as a very pessimistic teaching" is really old information. I don't think it's true at all although perhaps it was back in the day when the west had so little exposure to Buddhism it was mostly just a few intellectuals listening to themselves talk. I'mv drawn to the much more ascetic practices and directness of the Theravada rather than the Mahayana but I feel unwelcome. And it's funny because these guys are running an organization in England that seems very "western flavored" so not sure how they are such purists?
