    Harstem: *attempting to play with less than 100 apm*
    Also Harstem (in the first 30 seconds): *micros probe to travel next to minerals before mining to make the probe not de-accellerate so the probe begins mining .1 seconds faster and essentially mining an extra 1 mineral for each time this micro occurs.

      Yeah, there was plenty of actions to be saved. Like changing rally from nexzs all the time. For one probe, it means:select nexus, change rally, wait for probe, select nexus again, change rally again. Then you need to select the probe. If you skip thale rally, you save 4 actions.
      Also to build gateway, select prove from the mineral line, move screen to place, select building and place it, send probe back with shift click. It's like 4 actions. For haslrstem, it is the nexus thing, than select probe few times, build building, send probe back by clicking furiously three times on the mineral. Instead of 4 actions, there is like 25 actions... He could save bunch in the beginning and later micro army like madman.

    Hello sir, as a representative from the Silver League Players Union, I want to propose you a deal: you can keep your APM as high as you want, but you have to indulge with the actual handicap from our poor macro. Have 25% of your produced probes idling, spend 25% of your time supply-blocked. Show us the power of GM micro with actual silver league macro!

    18:45 repeat rates.
    also its not play slow, its make the action matter, if it doesn't actually matter don't wasted an action; train to only use the click nessesary so you slowly get more and more out off each click and the brain becomes clearer about what it has to do with each move in each situation. spamming is fast but the decisions become hard and precision as well, and no planning while the brain runs high mode

    Just getting to 200 units in 8 min contributes 25 apm already. But you need to do many other things. I have apm around 100 and it is barely enough to macro properly. My apm is also inflated cos I use control groups like in Warcraft 3: a control group of each type of units. Thus, most of the time I have 2-3 control groups and most of the commands need to be duplicated for each control group. I don't play enough, so I have not yet figured a better way

    • @iangardner6745

      @@iangardner6745 sure, it was just to illustrate the point that even the most basic and necessary things take a significant part of apm of players like those in gold or platinum league. This basic apm also depends a lot on the stage of a game. If you mine 3000 minerals per minute and spend all of it on marines, already from here you get 60 apm.

  • @ghosthunter0950
    @ghosthunter0950 2 місяці тому +1

    It's so funny seeing harstem just wait for his APM counter to go down until he does an action, because it doesn't matter. all that matters for your average APM is the total amount of actions. because the average APM is literally total_actions/minutes.
    If there are actions you're gonna do anyway delaying them isn't gonna help. your average is gonna be the same whether you do them now or 5 seconds later when your APM counter goes down.
    So the best way to go about this challenge is macro as best you can while minimizing unnecessary actions and maybe choose an army that doesn't require as much APM.

    • @miza6
      @miza6 2 місяці тому +1

      Fundamentally you are correct, if you have a set number of actions over a given time (actions/time) it doesn’t matter if you front load them or spread them out or whatever, the number of actions/time is the same. However, human behavior will always find a way to spoil the most sound plans, so I think that always being slow and methodical about actions is the best chance of not “finding” some extra tasks say if you have already completed all of your macro items and are idle. Real world examples of this is occurring spending/saving money or dieting.

    Harstem, I think what would make this challenge easier for you is if you try to get around 80 APM rhythm from the start. It's hard to know how much is 100 FPS. I don't know how to explain it better. 120 APM = 2 clicks per second. 100 APM = 1.5 clicks per second. 2 clicks per 3 seconds. Get the rhythm from the start and then you'll be able to keep it during the whole game. Just my two cents Captain!
    Edit:
    I remember Spanishiwa and some other pro players back in the Wings of Liberty and day9 days, experimenting with a metronome. It wasn't helping much when they were having 400 APM but when you limit yourself to 100 APM you need to get used to the new rhythm and make every click more efficient. Your APM runs up when you start clicking a lot during unit movement or extra action clicks (repeat rate). If you make 100 APM efficient you will be like a machine with maximum efficiency. :D

Instead of the spikes of APM, just focus on using the least number of actions possible, even if you need to increase your apm for a moment to accomplish a bunch of tasks. There are certain tasks that you have to do, and the speed at which you do it won't change your apm, since those are mandatory.

    apm challenge is pretty dumb when you are able to spike 300-500 apm, while average dude with 100 apm just cant do that, its possible only when you trying to intentionally lower your apm, it's not something that slow guys can do. So reality is: you have like 30-50 apm while nothing is happening and then 300-500 when there is an action. And yeah, average is 100, but you had a lot of apm in the most important parts of the game and you had low apm when you dont need high apm anyways.
    Challenge with max 100 average apm from like past 10 sec is much more realistic and much harder. You can set this counter with some app with sound alarm (so you need to wait) or something like that if you want.

      @myselfremade Not actually how it works out. No one in Grandmaster has a 50% win rate, it's usually closer to 60%, and dudes like Serral or Clem generally have 70-80%. I think it's a better metric than APM (assuming you have a substantial number of games played). An 80% win rate with 500 games played means you're an absolute beast. 500 APM could be a silver player mashing their keyboard or it could be Reynor. A win is a win, but it actually matters what buttons you press, not how much you press them.

      @@unrighteous8745 Im not sure that's valid in reality. There's loads of low level players with really high win rates for periods and low level players with high apm are relatively rare. If you just go and look at peoples profiles on SC2 right now, you'll probably find more high win rate players than low level high apm players, I feel like maybe you don't play the game much cause there is a big correlation to the point you can estimate it like Diamond 1 range (Terran: 160-210 Zerg: 180-270 Protoss: 150-240) Diamond 2 Range (Terran:150-200 Zerg: 170-250 Protoss: 130-220) usually about 90-150 for platinum players, a little lower for protoss and possibly higher for zerg)Masters 3 usually 200-310 (little lower for protoss, little higher for Zerg), Professional players usually 320-600 and so on. This because for most players, APM correlates to how often they're thinking of things to do in the game (including basic macro and micro details and how quickly they're executing those tasks, often how quickly they're capable of executing them, of course some players have more unnecessary actions and that's why there's a range and exceptions to that range but most players are trying to win and they can only press a finite amount of random button presses without impacting their ability to press the ones they need to in the game, for example I think most diamond players would really struggle to win a game with 350apm if they had that opposite challenge) but A high win rate basically just means that their win rate hasn't evened out yet, that they're rapidly getting better alongside the games they're playing (perhaps they've been getting coaching) or they've just started doing a new build/tactic/strategy/playstyle, and of course that they're not playing that many ranked games, and this is possible in most levels especially in lower levels where sometimes getting a different build and a couple of pieces of advice can see players skyrocket in wins. But of course if we're talking about metric of skill then the one that matters most is simply MMR.

      @@unrighteous8745 Yes that's how it work by design + some MMR decay, so you will have a better win rate if you don't play constantly. For a really high ranked player it's possible that no one of your skill level is queuing at the same time so you get matched with lower MMR to save queue time. Silver is 50APM not 500APM, I've never seen someone hold down buttons and mash keyboard to increase APM and if they did lol why talk about it? Look at average for every skill level and see how APM is key to skills.

      @@Iseenoobpeoples It's definitely a sign of a higher skill player; I just don't think it's the best metric to judge that. I'm in low diamond with about 150 apm, and I see loads of people with 300+ apm at my level. Why talk about it? It's the topic...?
