Hai! What is your email address Dan
I didnt click to watch u do this shitnto overheating car ..I'm gone ...click bait for as I'm concerned
@@rickyb2408 Yes it can be click bait! You can not watch videos on youtube if you are afraid of it. What can happen if it is click bait? you spend only a few minutes of your time! it's awful!
The video is not click bait !!
Don't forget CANADA!
I don't think he is doing videos for youtube income...He does videos because he wants to help others... Notice that he doesn't push subbing or ringing the "bell"... He's just a nice guy providing valuable/ great diagnosis tools... Thanks Dan...
You are right, i only post about 1 video a month so i can tell you that i don't get very rich from UA-cam 😂
you can easily see the passion that Dan puts on his work. UA-cam it's just a way to communicate with us.....regardless of £ involved. Which is great. Thank you, Dan.
If the content is good, there's no need to beg for subs and likes!
I just can't subscribe to a channel that has somewhere in the video, "Like, Share, Subscribe!" Or worse yet, a contest where only subscribers can win. I WILL NOT ever do that! (New channel, only 2 vids so far)

Maybe he is sponsored by Autel i have an older unit and it is useless any VW owner will tell you ross tech vag -com far better and cheaper for VW test repairs
The most amazing thing is that something from wish actually arrived
I did take some time!
I just went on Wish again, after some time. Their prices seem way too high. $335 for a push type power mower? That's more than I paid for a self drive Husqvarna. Where's the bargain in that. $25 for a fob is great. The rest is questionable.
Alex T iiz
Lol SMH, i swear 3 1/2 mnths for me. I actually forgot i ordered it and ended up buying another one.
Haha very true..
Although everything I have ordered has arrived in the end...
One of the things that I was taught early on in my electrical engineering career was to use the right tool for the job in hand. In this case a 50 cent light bulb was superior equipment to a $300 Fluke DMM.
Multimeters are for measuring. They measure everything that is in the air. To test you need a test equipment, that charges the cable. Every electrical practitioner who values his life knows this.
The load testing is many times overlooked and not stressed enough when teaching diagnostics . So simple but so often forgotten and as seen in your video you have a car from another garage where the tech didn´t think about it .
You are right!
Yup. Load testing has saved my ass more than a few times.
The really tricky ones are the signal wires that don't carry much current.
@@panzerveps Ah, so. Very true.
Dan, why didnt you use the multimeeter "beep/continuity" to confirm the correct wire? Br Jan
A test I like to do are continuity tests so I can test see if there’s any resistance that could hold back the current/amperage from flowing.
Such a great clear way of explaining a problem, if only other teachers, lecturers explained things so clearly..
Thank you 😁
Have never clicked so fast! This channel should be compulsory viewing for anybody who fixes cars - Pro or amateur.
😁Thanks!👍👍
When the music starts playing, you know that Diagnose Dan is about to fix it again.

As an electrical guy of 50 years I now have confirmed in my mind Dan is a troubleshooter first class when he breaks out the meter he did!
Thanks John😁
Probably the best youtube channel ever!! The way he explains, the quality of his videos are over 10+ one of the best teachers in the word!!! Keep up the great work Dan!
When using the fluke and test lamp ,it reminds me of when i was in training in 84..A group of us in the class where testing an ignition fault and where adamant there was nothing wrong as ,after all we had battery voltage .The instructor then explained why we should have used the test lamp that was there .That lesson has stayed with me to this day ,where i am now explaining it to apprentices
Thanks for the great comment it's appriciated 👍
Dan, you would be a brain, a heart, a driver, an engine, a powerplant of any workshop. You would be a priceless team member for any dealership. In my country clever guys never stay for a long time at dealer shops. My respects to you!

Thank you.
That's great!
Such a great demonstration of the importance of load testing powers and grounds. Overlooked way too often in this industry. Great video!

Only found your channel recently and glad I did - it’s excellent. I’m impressed by the production quality of the videos, the logical and systematic diagnosis and fix of the problems, and how genuine you are as a person and presenter. It’s sad that the dealer networks are driven by workshop profits and that you’re the exception rather than the rule when it comes to automotive engineers these days. As an aside, your English is exceptionally good, flawless in fact (I’m assuming it’s not your first language) - I say that because my Dutch and German are dreadful and I’m very impressed by someone as multilingual as you. Happy subscriber. 👍😊
You are awesome, man. Thanks for the great content, your videos are truly a blessing. Great to see your passion. Fixing electrical issues day after day sometimes has me questioning my sanity and my choice of careers haha but I always get a renewed sense of excitement when I watch a video of yours. Each job is an adventure and another opportunity to learn. Thanks again man.
That's a great comment Daniel! It's appriciated 👍
This is exactly why I like to use my Loadpro. I know some guys here on UA-cam don't believe in the Loadpro but I think it is a great tool.
Load Pro is an excellent tool. I have found many issues missed by previous techs using only a voltmeter.
I think the youtubers your talking about has more to the story then just the tool. I dont use the load pro personally and that's not because its a bad tool. I'm just use to my test methods. I have the load pro on my fluke i just dont use a meter much. Its a scope and test light for me. I definitely believe it does what it says it does.
Everybody does believe in the Loadpro. The thing is it does exactly the same as a testlight.
@@Diagnosedan I also use test lights and headlight bulbs etc to load a circuit. Just my personal preference is using the Loadpro and multimeter. Thanks for another great video
DiagnoseDan.A nice short video comparing the Loadpro180 o similar tool and a test light functionality will be nice. I do use the loadpro quite often But believe it or not some of my coworkers do not know how it works go figure.
All I can say Sir is,: you are simply just an amazing great diagnostic expert, comments from a 65 year old DIYer from Philippines
Thank you for showing the world what a proper diagnosis is. Too many mechanics are just parts changers. And also, thank you for doing your videos in english, I know learning and then speaking in a non-native language in public can be difficult, but you make it look easy. You do such a good job explaining so clearly what you are doing, what you are looking for, and what your results mean. The mark of a true professional.
I’ve been waiting for a new video from you. Glad to see you’re well. I hope pandemic didn’t affect you to bad.
Of course it did have an effect but everybody is safe and that's the most important. I hope you and your family are doing well Adrian
Great video. Good to see you again. The new look is nice too.
Thanks🙈
So happy to see a new video, Dan. This one was fascinating and, once again, you taught this old shade tree mechanic a new trick. I had no idea that load testing was the key. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the positive comment Douglas!
Dan is great, the look of astonishment when the cheap key worked was priceless. Thanks for all your videos Dan
Great job explaining the ground issue, Dan. I always wondered why key fobs were so expensive. Clearly they *can* be made for reasonable prices.
Thanks for watching 👍
Great Job again Dan. Looks like Dan got a work out up n down the stairs 😂
😂😂👍
Once again, absolutely brilliant! I have been a electrical engineer for 16 years. Car electrics go beyond me but you make everything so more understandable and clearer. I’m catching up with all your videos! Regards from London!
This came up in my recommendations .. I really like his explanation style and obvious expertise - a thumbs up from me!
It's the little things that show you the difference between an amateur and a pro.
Like the protectant spray once the bolt was tight. :-)
Thanks!👍👍👍
on the temporary/permanent fix
man, everyone's a critic. realistically, the wires were fine, and the other shop is not going to do anything other than give the vehicle back to the customer as is, fixed. His job was to diagnose, he went above and beyond.
@Jason Bowman when he got to that bit, I was thinking he was going to repair the wires. But then I also thought, if it's my car, I think I'd rather keep the original connectors and wires rather than having a spliced-in repair. If the copper is all still good, then the original wires are fine to take current. And it's a ground, so even if the insulation fails later it won't be a problem.
We were wondering what that was
Hey Dan, if you want a great upgrade for your test light, Order the OTC 3642 truck test light, the cord is twice as long and it has the big clip on the end. You can just swap the cord to your mini test light
Wow thanks for that tip, i'll look into that!
This guy is amazing at explaining it in simple terms to us simple folks.
The part switchers dropped the car off to a true mechanic, good call, great video, thanks!
im so used to just grabbing my standard test light that it baffles me why someone would use a multi meter to check power n grounds. great video on basics
Many technicians are trained to work with a multimeter.
Great job Dan!
That was a '"cool" video".
Thank you 😁
I can't believe at 76 I'm just now learning this. I absolutely love learning. Thank you! I would have bet money on the meter reading and would have been lost. The title of this vid should have been 'Don't believe your meter unless there's current'. The key business comes late in the video.
Earths... they can be a total pain!
We misdiagnosed my brother's Renault with what we thought was a duff ignition switch causing a non start despite a good battery, start relay and healthy starter motor.
After going to the dealer to order a non refundable new barrel and key with switch for £170 in 2008 (the old blades were getting worn anyway) and the non starting issue remained.
Turned out the ground strap from the bell housing to the body had corroded and broken...this was causing the non start issue and at the time was sorted for £5... that'll teach us for looking for a complicated answer to a simple problem!
Thank you for a clear and well made video, superb stuff!
ALWAYS check power circuits with a suitable load. I like to put at least 50% of what the fuse rating. On heavier circuits 10 or 12 amps is usually enough
Great advise Bruce!
Your multimeter is fine to do measurements, but you always have to make sure that the component is activated. Your multimeter would show 0v as well if you used your Autel to activate the fans while measuring.
Hi Dan, great video and classy troubleshooting process. When I posted 4 months ago I totally missed an important cue. The 11X family meter you were using (116 or 117) have a Low Impedance input (much like an old timey VOM) It's a 3K ohm input for AC or DC compared to VAC Auto or VDC Auto being a 10 Meg ohm input. You should be able to switch to LoZ and see the same phenomenon as with the incandescent test light. The Fluke 11X family I believe were among the first to offer this valuable feature. I am not sponsored or compensated by Fluke in any way but do use their meters for my work and training I do. Really, like with you, just a personal endorsement of an excellent device that works as published!
This kind of teaching is invaluable. Thank you DiagnoseDan
My pleasure Richard
I usually go softer when cleaning tined terminals. Expoed copper tends to oxidize really fast.
The contact points are where the copper is not exposed. And i sealed everything up with the protective spray.
When I was about 13 years old I used to "help" my Dad fix the car. He told me to always put Vaseline on battery terminals, "because it conducts electricity". Many years later I tested this theory with a multimeter. Of course Vaseline does not conduct electricity, it just keeps the air out of the places that aren't in contact. In a situation like Dan has just shown I would have greased the connections. I live in a remote area and don't have easy access to fancy sprays so I'll use what I have to hand.
DAN MY MAN! Way to go brother. Clear Voltage never equals current!!!! Well done once again. I’ve gotten to the point where I try to pretend diagnose when you describe the issue, which is fun learning. Keep the videos coming!
Dan, the knowledge I gained regarding the loading of a circuit rather than using a meter to search for faults is invaluable, thank you Dan
I like to use multimeter and activate the load 😁😁cool video Danny
Thanks Armando👍
Hey Dan, great video, what was the spray that you used on the cleanded up terminals?
Rust protector/sealant😁
back to the basics!great video as always!cheers dan!!
Thank you 😁
Lol Dan you scared me twice. Once when you picked up the multimeter and again when you picked up the led test light. 😂😂😂
I said this is not happening the man that showed us all the secrets " including using the correct test light" makes two mistakes one after the other,😂😂😂
Great job Dan.

25 buckAroos is more than enough US feral reviser notes for a wireless transponder key i know as i am into electronics 200 euro`s is robbery they should have no more than 10 usd in a key buying bulk on a unit that last that short of time. (grammar error`s brought to by a nice commenter below so i fixed even better for it.trolls got to love it unfounded nit picking )
agreed
Thanks for watching!
Your problem with forming understandable sentences makes me wonder in what area of electrical repair or maintenance you are working at . A professional electrician? Nah, I don't think so. I try to understand , a buck is a deer, in electronics? where? inside a wire? And last time I checked we had Euro's. Bitching about the price for an aftermarket key is pathetic. Be happy that it is possible to program and sell them. 250 Euro's and more for OEM. That's reality but reading your comment and the name of the person that agreed with you gives me a better understanding of the kind that you are.
I needed a second key for my 2016 Skoda Octavia and bought a replacement key from a Chinese manufacturer. None of the local automotive locksmiths could program it so I went to the Skoda dealer. They charged me $165 to tell me that the key was not a genuine Skoda key and that I need to buy one through them and have it programmed. The cost &700. With the key programmer demonstrated by DiagnoseDan I may have been able to save $700. I certainly feel that I have been ripped off.

Good job Dan, a loose wire. I wonder did the owner get a refund from the first shop?
I think they sold him the Car and it's covered under warranty
@@Diagnosedan That's good. Many years ago I bought a car (306XSI) SH from a main dealer on which every now and then the automatic adjuster in the clutch cable would slip, so I asked them to fix it under warranty. Came back with a new clutch, the old cable and the same fault. Fixed it myself with a new cable and realised it had to be fitted with the adjuster orientated a particular way or it would slip.
Really informative. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this from the beginning to the end. Thank you.
Found your channel by chance and subbed, wonderful to see people not ripping you off or use expesive tools, yes some tools are needed but somtimes you fix something using logic, simple tools and brainpower.
The load test was great, helped me.
I'm willing to bet both keys came from the same place.
Who knows!
I just got the IM608 myself as well! I can’t wait to use mine!
Also, great demonstration on why you always need to be diagnosing circuits while loaded.
When you were testing the circuit with a multimeter, were you active testing the fans on?
I was just thinking of you at this very moment
@@apprenticefelix7740 I’m so excited! I have a cool tool being delivered to go along with the IM608 too!
Great question .
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Remember that module on the fan motor? That turns on the fans and shares that ground wire. So the module also had no ground and it would never turn the fans on. But good question!
Just discovered your channel, not disappointed!
Keep up the good work!
What a great guy you are, there aren't a lot of good honest vehicle technicians in the UK, if you were in the UK, I would definitely be using your services, please keep up the good work and making the tutorials, your input is very interesting and much appreciated. Thankyou.
We could tell you were getting out of breath climbing up and down the ladder Dan 😂😂
😂yes i know i need to work on that!
What gives with the other shop, surely testing grounds under load is car electrics 101
asking most of them what electrical load testing is and they'll probably not have a clue...
I think you would be suprised to see how many technicians don't know
@@Diagnosedan I have to look this up. I thought a resistive point in the circuit (bad connection or corrosion) would show a voltage drop like putting a resistor in series. If I understand, pulling a current (a load) can generate enough heat at the resistive point that it destroys continuity and breaks the circuit.
It's not that the voltage is reading wrong on the meter. It's that the load is testing all the connections under actual current draw and a weak connection will fail.
I got the impression from the video that there was a problem with the test meter and the digital test light. Like they were not showing the actual voltage. Really, they are too sensitive. They tell you everything's fine when it isn't.
Excellent video (as usual). Worth thinking about.
@@alext8828 there probably whee no issues with the multimeter or led tester niether are they too sensitive.
I assume he didnt gave a actuator command to start the fan while he meusured the ground, otherwise the fan itself would be the load and the voltage would had dropped.
@@KaasTube Ah, that is right. Normally, at least from my experience, testing is done by casually hitting all the test points and noting the results. It would be, as you say, a requisite to either switch the related component on or, as Dan did (finally), use a resistive test w/ load; ie. incandescent bulb.
I need to remember this result.
Just as an added comment; I did troubleshooting for a dealer and one of the things that we got a lot of were short circuits caused by the wiring harness being damaged by assembly screws driven thru the harnesses. We had a meter that could follow the harness and find the short. It worked by momentarily switching the circuit on at the fuse box and the meter was hand-held and would pick up the magnetic field of the circuit turning on and off. An arrow on the meter told which direction to move to find the short. I thought that was the coolest. Never saw that system again. Very clever and this was in the '60s. Our most advanced piece of diagnostic gear was the Sun analyzer. Dan has been a tremendous help in furthering my understanding of these things. Thanks for your comments.
Nice Scan tool and a great job with good information! Thanks Dan!
Thanks!😁😁
I love your approach to problem solving 👍
Loads of great equipment then you use pretty sketchy step ladders 😂
😂😂👍
Same at my shop. I climb a ladder that is older than I am carrying a piece of equipment that cost €35000
I used to occasionally work for a guy on new build or the total renovation of houses. He always had crap ladders and step ladders. Literally, he'd found them in the dump!
I did all the plumbing and wiring so I was always up and down a ladder of some sort. I decided that I was going to buy only one step ladder in my life so it would have to be a good one, it cost £160 ten or more years ago. The legs are locked with solid steel bars and wing nuts, no flexing it is solid. It folds out to become a 10ft. ladder, again locked with a solid bar. The treads have sharp "V" shaped ridges, there is no way that you will ever slip. Well damn, I just searched and they don't make them any more :(
Titan UK, what have you done?
You should never have used a chinese key, now they know where you live.
