Now you see why it's a favorite, love the long extended bass running under that verse. This was Chance's project, he imagined and directed and it explains why he says he loves ballads.
YES! This is a favorite of mine, but I am a huge Crosby, Stills and Nash fan as well. Home Free did this Soooo beautifully and the way they came in at the start and then maintained the harmonies. Yes, that bass going into your soul. lol Loved this one. Great reaction! Thanks!
I was fortunate enough to have seen Crosby, Stills and Nash in concert at Pine Knob (sort of near Detroit) years ago AND Home Free last week in Portland. I can die happy.

Great reaction! Check out their cover of the Eagles "Seven Bridges Road" it is fantastic! And for harmonies "How Great thou Art" Thanks again! Loving your Homefree reactions!
I second How Great Thou Art. The harmonies and visuals will blow you away. Don’t know if you noticed but Adam Rupp sang on Helplessly Hoping. He also sings on How Great Thou Art.
Alright, SO, I've been avoiding responding to the How Great Thou Art requests. I have a pretty longstanding rule where I don't want to feature politics or faith on my streaming or video platforms. So a hymn, even as great and well covered by some legendary musicians, as this has been, hasn't been something I was interested in covering. But if you all really want me to react to this, and think that its a song that will get a good reaction out of me, I will do it... 100%.
@@DanFromHali well - I am not religious at all and still love this song. But a big part may also be that we were at the country festival in Austria where Home Free shot the music video to the song the day before but I suspect I'd still like it no matter where the video was shot simply for the outstanding harmonies.
@@DanFromHali..I think you'll find that hymns don't usually bring controversy to the fans of most a capella groups. We all just appreciate the glorious music and if you happen to feel that you get a religious experience out of it, that's between you, the music, and your personal beliefs.
This song is so haunting in it's beauty. Home Free has music for every mood and in almost any genre. A few good message songs are Everybody Walkin This Land, What We Need is Love, and People ft Jeffrey East. Fun and funny, All About That Bass, Hillbilly Bone, and Countryfried Pop. Collaborations with the Oak Ridge Boys, Elvira and Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. Lee Greenwood and the Airforce band, God Bless The USA (make sure it's that recording) Kenny Rogers, Children Go Where I Send Thee, Alabama, Christmas in Dixie. I'm sure I missed some, but you'll see that their chemistry with these legendary artists is phenomenal! Thank you for the awesome reactions! ❤
Yep, that’s why we love Home Free. Their harmonies are superb! No instruments, all voices. Adam (beatboxer) sang in this too. Welcome to Home Free! I know CSN but didn’t know this song. Love the way Home Free does it. There are so many good songs by this group. What I love is that they’re not afraid to be goofy too all while sounding good. Try How Great Thou Art, Seven Bridges Road, Country Roads. Good reaction!!
This is in my top 3 favorites of all time Home Free covers! It’s phenomenal! Now you know why it was so highly recommended. It’s a hauntingly and stunning cover! It’s simple, but still complex and so beautifully performed! If you want some more Chance leads, check out Home Free’s covers of “I Can’t Outrun You” and “Cover Me Up” (don’t stop the video at the end. There’s a little video of Chance talking at the end with a surprise). He’s done other covers with Home Free that are more upbeat, too. “Some Girls Do” is really good, and he has part lead on “Castle On the Hill” and “Finally Free”. I totally get why you like Chance’s voice! I fell in love with this voice the first time I heard it. FYI: Chance was part of another A Capella group from Season 2 of the Sing Off. They were my favorite to win that season, but they took 2nd place. The group is Streetcorner Symphony. You should go check out their cover of “Mad” by Muse! It’s really cool! Chance was still in the group back then. Of course, check out other songs/videos of them. They’re still together!
You should have heard them at the Ryman Auditorium. It starts off with Chance holding a finger to his lips and then the audience goes silent. It was awesome.
This song for me was very haunting. I go back to it because it just so good. Others have given you suggestions and I will leave there for now. Thank you for a great reaction.
So along the lines of technical arrangements and harmonies such as this one that HF has done, I recommend Auld Lang Syne, and How Great Thou Art, also with 5 part harmonies. Also, for an amazing arrangement by Adam Rupp, Do You Hear What I Hear embraces incredible intricate harmonies.
I would almost bet that when Austin comes in, Chance drops an octave to his baritone range. The harmonies in "Seven Bridges Road" are the ones that really hooked me on this group.
Congrats on reaching 200+ subs!!! For something funny you should check out Tim Foust blowing out a speaker at an outdoor concert and then a live version of Your Man. I'm loving your reactions so far! Soon, you will be ready for Mayday, not quite yet, you need to wait a few more songs or the surprise isn't as fun. :D Peace, love and light to all, keep safe, stay strong and we will all get through this together.
It was short but so sweet! I love their version of "Country Roads" also if you want to take a look at it, it's a very "country" song, but they end up giving it a little soul with the harmonies and vocal switch-offs by the end.
Since you so enjoyed their 5 part harmony with Helplessly Hoping, I recommend you give a listen to their rendition of How Great Thou Art. Pure ear-joy and the scenery where they filmed it (Austrian Alps) just adds even more majesty to the song.
I honestly really don't want to do How Great Thou Art. I try to keep Christianity off of my media platforms. It's not an aspect of my life I'm too interested in sharing.
You heard Chance drop to baritone when Austin came in. If you've heard Brothers in Arms, if you listen carefully, Chance sings the bass line with Tim, then slides up to baritone.

Glad you are as lost in this song as the rest of us. Also, notice please, that our Adam, "the freak of nature", as Tim lovingly calls him, did no percussion or beatboxing. He has a truly beautiful tenor voice and this is the first song I ever heard it. He can sing. Oh yes. He can.

Their harmonies are so tight. You really can't go wrong with any of their songs. But I would suggest trying a couple of their originals - Dive Bar Saints (Chance has the lead for a good part of this one), and Catch Me If You Can, which features Rob.
LOL. You talked about liking Austin's low range. You react to "Try Everything," their Zootopia cover and one of Chance's first videos with them. There is a section about 2/3 of the way thru where Chance sings lead, Tim sings the high part, and Austin's takes the low part. It's an intentional reversal of harmonies and it's one of my favorite sections, surprising kind of like 'Mayday' but most people miss it. BTW, I love you arm tattoo.

Chance has a nice, warm tone. When he and Rob sing together in the second phrase of the first verse, that is not "harmony"; that is 'unison' and their blend is flawless. When Austin joins them, he is the top voice; Chance is on the bottom. What's interesting is how they blend, despite being from such far-cast areas (Chance from Alabama, Rob from Minnesota, Austin from Georgia, and Tim from east Texas). I'm in a men's chorus in Wisconsin, and just getting midwesterners to agree on a common vowel sound is a wrestling match.
You heard Austin go typically high tenor, but Adam went into the baritone, which is his more typical voice. Rob stayed mid-range as he did when he joined Adam. No base, just baritone, and two tenors. There's no mistaking when Tim joins. Wink, wink.
After Chris left the group and Adam Chance came on board their sound has become richer.
