    As been said time and time again to those considering a rabbit, do your research. You certainly hit all the key points to help those considering rabbits as pets. As far as I'm concerned, the virtues outweigh the vices. But of course rabbits aren't for everyone. A solid post. You've been so helpful to so many in the bunny world.

    For those who want to start rabbit as pets. Pls be informed that rabbits are prey animals and are protective to their territory. They have tendencies to be aggressive for defending space and place. You have to be extra careful and mindful in handling them. Don't put them in too much stress. Yes they're gentle creatures but naturally their hormones are sexually active and protective on their territory that leads to irritability and aggressive behavior if not properly assessed to

    My girl bunny loves to be held and carried, she sits on my shoulder. But both of my boys hate it. They will allow it if I need to pick them up, or if I want to steal a quick cuddle but for the most part, nope.

    I work from home, yes, rabbits are quiet, when they're not chewing/digging on the cardboard boxes we made into homes for them, or zooming all over the place. But I can't be mad. They're too cute! I just want to squee with joy when they do those things.

    I’ve recently found a perfect way to be able to own a rabbit while I am owning my guinea pigs (keeping them separated) and so i’m doing a lot more research on them and all the cons of rabbits i’ve found aren’t problems for me so now all I have to do is save up lots of money and convince my mom which I am already working on! I’m really hoping to get a rabbit soon ❤️❤️

    • @chrispychickenandegg
      @chrispychickenandegg 3 роки тому +1

      you can’t ever build trust fast, it’s a process. make sure she sees you when you give her treats, try to hand feed her pellets and you can sit near her (don’t touch her or anything!) and let her slowly come up to you and investigate. all the best with your bonding journey!

    It is not the right pet for ANYBODY unless you love spoiled brats!!! I have 3 indoor rabbits that are free range or in large play pens, they’re so adorable and fun, but they do chew everything, do not like to cuddle or snuggle, just like to be petted and sit on the floor with them. They binky when they’re excited and they’re very fun. My roommate, Sullivan (a cute brown meat rabbit), gets along with my kittens well and is very fun to have around. I adore him very much. But rabbits are certainly not a good pet choice for anyone younger than adult age honestly, cats are better for young people. I also cannot clip my rabbits nails, he will not let me and it is very stressful when rabbits act picky or won’t let you do something they need done.

    • @laf2602
      @laf2602 3 роки тому

      FYI I will not be eating Sullivan, I just shared that he isn’t a well-bred rabbit and that may be why my rabbits are so difficult and picky.

    Everybunny here should invest in a steam cleaner for their free-roam spaces! I just got a cheap-ish Bissel at Walmart which steam sanitizes after my bunnies.

    My rabbit is twelve years old and he's very set in his ways. His fur can get a bit matted sometimes around his tail and balls area,I just wondered if you have any ideas about how to deal with this? I do groom him but because of his age my vet said not to try and do everything all at onceas he might have a heat attack witch is very worrying xx

    • @TheBunnyLady
      @TheBunnyLady  3 роки тому +1

      This is a common problem with elderly rabbits. As they age, they can't reach around themselves to groom well. Sometimes it's due to arthritis, so you can ask your vet if they think your rabbit should have any pain medication. Otherwise, I can tell you're doing your best to groom him and keep him comfortable.

    • @MrVevlet
      @MrVevlet 3 роки тому +1

      Hi I just wanted to chime in because I also have senior rabbits. My bunny Houdini has mild arthritis in one of his back legs so I’ve been giving the Oxbow Joint Supplement to both of my bunnies. Sometimes I break the capsules in half if I want to spread out hand fending and bonding time throughout the day. Or I just give them half of one if they’re having other treats that day. Oxbow also does other treats that can help with the health of senior bunnies like papaya ones. You should definitely discuss any dietary changes with your vet. But I just want to mention them because my bunnies love them and it definitely helps Houdini stay active.

      Rabbits will sometimes chew and dig on fabric. The best things to do is make sure he has enough stimulation and enrichment. Provide him with toys that he can chew on (willow balls, apple sticks, wooden toys, hay toys, grass mats, etc.) so that he has things he can safely chew on. If he's chewing the fabric in a specific spot, place a tile on top of the spot where he's chewing. The fabric should also be a material that's safe for rabbits.
      They are naturally timid animals. To make sure he's comfortable, make sure he has hidey-houses to hide in. The hidey-houses should have 2 separate entrances and be large enough for him to sit up comfortably. If he's acting scared of you, I find that sitting or laying directly on the floor without approaching him will give him an opportunity to get to know you. You can also befriend your rabbit by sitting on the floor and hand-feeding during meal-time. My rabbit will now jump right in my lap during feeding time.
      You might also want to look into getting him neutered in a few months.

    • @jcchanel9912
      @jcchanel9912 3 роки тому

      That’s just what bunnies do tbh. They will dig in fabrics and they’ll bite or nibble on or in almost anything. Try giving him more variety of toys so he can play with and chew into. Maybe when your bunny turns 6 months, at least, get him nurtured, it would help his trying to be dominant side and their hormonal side. If he’s scared, just try to bond with him by giving him a few treats, or get on ground level with your rabbit, so it’ll allow him to sniff and check you out and crawl over you. Try being in his presence and allow him to know you’re not a predator. Right now, he probably thinks you’re a predator cause they are known as prey animals, and can/are very scared when it comes to people towering over them or trying to grab them. I hope this helps!! It’ll take a little time, but the bond and love from an animal, especially a prey animal, will be worth it all, I promise!! Good luck!!👍
