Thanks for great video! One small detail I would clarify: The very slight movement of the selector lever fore/aft (not down into the floor) is all that should be needed to make contact and engage solenoid/clutch. At the top of the adjusting barrel, where the selector lever comes out, is an oval shaped hole. This should be aligned with the centerline of the car to allow the selector lever to move slightly forward and rearward. When clearance is properly adjusted (as you demonstrated), loosen the lower lock nut and rotate the lower portion, preserving the contact adjustment, and aligning the selector lever fore/aft (because gear changes are in these directions). At 4:05 you can see the top of the adjustment barrel is aligned left/right instead of fore/aft. Love the videos, they've been a lot of help in my resto. Cheers.
I just wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU for this video. It resolved the issues I was having with my 1970 Karmann Ghia Autostick shifting/grinding. Solely out of adjustment. THANKS AGAIN.
I had the barring's done and now it gets stuck and hard to put into gear. after I drive it for a while i get back into my 1969 autostick vw and it wont go into gear at all
Ok not so hesitant about mine now. I see what it all looks like. Thanks. That is a cool hat. Y’all going to sell them? If so where to purchase one? I will wear one! Y’all seem respectful and very knowledgeable about cars.
Brent Chastain we got a few samples made up, sure we will have some appearal for sale soon. We will keep you posted. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel!
I was wondering on the back end of your shift shaft is there a spring attached to it? I got my bug all dissasembled and when I had to replace mine because it was missing, my replacemnt had a spring attached to it. Not sure how to connect it if i need it
Hey Guys! Super helpful but riddle me this! I have a 74 super beetle Convertible- that will not shift - I believe while I was doing some interior work I dislodged the ground wire that connects to the auto shifter - would that cause this issue!? Where dies the wire that is connected to the auto shifter get grounded to? Thanks a million!
Mike or any other autostick expert, where is the blue wire suppose to go to make contact. Ours was just hanging loosely out of the hole on the shifter by the drivers side when I recently purchased her. Thanks
Hi i recently installed my engine in a 69 bug with autostick. When i tried to drive it won’t engage. The shifter will go in to 1st abs all gears but car won’t move. Can you point me in that right direction of what it might be?… thank you
Hi Linda, it sounds like you have an issue with you clutch servo or a vacuum leak. I would check clutch servo first. If the diaphragm inside fails, clutch would not properly engage. We will hopefully be posting video about this soon. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe!
Most likely with the recommendation from above is a problem I've had Auto sticker for insulin similar not as bad as you described but it could be a little nylon bushing that holds a shift rod in place it also could be your line plate on your shifter if you haven't already fixed it good luck if you have already great

Yep, the contact gap is so crucial. Thanks for the great video :)
Hi, great tutorial.
Do you have one on how to adjust de vaccum valve so it does not kick like a mule on every gear change? 🙏
El mío está pateando como Mula y no lo puedo arreglar

I found on my 69 the wire ran under the carpet beside the driver's seat and connected under the back seat.

Cool!
Need some advice have a 74 super beetle that came with the auto stick but no engine. I have a manual engine what do I need to convert it
Steven Hall Hi Steve, yes several differences. Think it may be best to post a small video. Will try to get up in next few days for you. Thanks
Steven Hall Hi Steven, posting a video now, explaining the what parts you require to convert to an autostick engine. Good luck.
I have a auto stick that grinds when I shift in any position.. would this be a fix for that?

What do you mean adjust till full contact? How do you do that?
Until they are touching. But just touching not tight. Hopefully that helps. Thanks.
