it would be nice to have a VW club nearby with an expert giving a short class each week. I'd pay monthly dues for that. There is one mechanic left I know of nearby and he is 71 now but still working. He's the perfect choice for VW professor in this neck of the woods. You can only get so much out of a service manual.
Thanks for this video. After watching I looked at my accelerator pump on my 30 pict 1 and it wasn't moving when I hit the throttle. Come to find out the lever was hitting the alternator. Adjusted carb over and works perfect. Thanks. I wouldnt have looked without this video.
Helpful, but my carb is set up. The issue I am experiencing is the accelerator arm will not return fully to the stop. So after I get out of gear, the idle sits over 1K. If I tap the accelerator, it drops back down. I can see that the accelerator arm clearly does not fully return to the stop.
Just brought a one into four manifold with an empi 34 pict-3 carb. Now i put it on & won't even try to idle. I hold throttle open a bit & it runs rough & over fuel's so then head down the jetting route. But as I took it off & carried it to my shed I'm looking down the throat & as I tilt the carb I noticed fuel pouring out the tap looking part in the middle of carb throat. So I then tilted it again & yep fuel pours out that spout. Now why on earth would that be a thing. It's going up the main jet channel & if I tilt it it syphons out. Now that can't be right can it? If I parked on a hill it would poor fuel into the manifold. I dropped fule level then tilted it & yep it pours out that spout. I know this is a shot in the dark but any ideas are welcome.
Curious to know what the solenoid does that has the wire to where he said don’t touch it does?does it turn something on is it supposed to be live when you turn the key on?
Timing and valves adjusted are huge factors in getting carb tuned, i feel i need revisit timing even though it hits at first key turn which was what i was told a long time ago is right, but hiccup and hestiation on acceleration got me questioning everything again, ah the joys of vw bug ownership😂
at video 2:20 - 2:56,.. any body help me, explain it for me. Is there anyone willing to help how many turns for the carburetor settings, there are 2 upper and lower bolts, sorry my english. thanks so much
Make sure that the engine is cold and then if it still isnt moving, loosen the three screws surrounding the choke point where the connection goes and turn it until the choke is completely down
You mean the step cam, on the outside of the carb? Is it sticky? Maybe where it pivots needs to be cleaned or lubed. It needs to free to move. When cold, you step on gas pedal. The choke is in the cold position. This allows the heavy side of that cam to fall, now when you start engine, the lo idle screw will rest on one of the higher steps making the engine idle at a higher rpm. As the electric coil heats up, it expands, rotationally. Pulling the choke plate off, into a wide open position. Another tap on the pedal moves that cam. Now the lo idle screw rests on the lowest step.giving you warm engine lo idle. 850 rpm’s, or so.
This has to be the worst carb adjustment video ... EVER ! I apologize for not being positive, and Yes.. he is sharing his time ... But ... I DO know how to adjust the 34-Pict 3 in my sleep. I listened to what he was saying and watched what he is doing .... and honestly .. I have no clue as to what he is talking about. It's all nonscence with zero detail. The 34 Pict 3 is a working work of art. Can he tune a carb ? Maybe. Can he explain it ... definitely NOT !
I'm back again for the 10th time and thankful each time!
I’m 19 and was struggling to understand because others would half fast how to do it but u explained perfectly thank you 🙏 😭💙
I spent hours looking for a good video that was informative & easy to understand. This Video IS GREAT ! & I Thank You Sir for a job well done !!!!
this is gold. I love simplified explanations
Best most concise vid on adjusting this carb
agreed! simple right to the point
Love the video great information!! It will be added to my Carb Tech playlist.

GREAT instructions! Thank you!

What are the starting points for the volume and mixture screws.

Awesome video!
Who else saw man with beard and think he must know his carburetors in this video alright 😂
Yep, we'll never ask the guy who keeps his hands in his pockets, lazybones.
I got a 2 screw carb not three, it's a 1200 engine.
Also....old guy. ...must known his shit.
Great video, just set mine up - great help 🤙
awesome video. quick and simple. I still got a dead spot but its not that bad.
I did too, i think my carb needs cleaning before attempt this.

what does the thermostat valve nozzle on the solex 31 pict-4 carburetor do? as a projection on the left front in the carburetor..
Chef Anthony Lamas from Bar Rescue was spotted at 1:14

Anti backfire solenoid. Needs power when key is turned on.
Its a fuel shut-off valve ..
With no power (key off) it stops the supply of fuel .. to prevent "run-on/dieseling.

Try adjusting your accelerator pump arm. I have the same problem and that's what I'm going to do next.
The unit in the back is to make sure your learnings 😂😂

You have to just experiment your trying to hear a good engine sound not missing fireing on cylinder (weak mixture) should sound smoothe
right off the bat my choke is not flicking back, DR . Bob how do i fix this ? help
Make sure that the engine is cold and then if it still isnt moving, loosen the three screws surrounding the choke point where the connection goes and turn it until the choke is completely down
If adjustments do not help you may need a new one ✔

Why is there no 30 - pic 1 videos
ok i am in scotland but i could only understand half of what he said
He was about about half right, not bad though.
Too bad there was so much noise, it was hard to hear your voice.
i plugged in my head phones, Sounded Great !

This video is not helpful, I can't see what this man is adjusting. Another flop...
Get a new cameraman…
crummy teacher.....dont bother..there are better versions elsewhere
not a good teacher. lucky im a master 😝
Mr. MOTORMASTER well stop bragging and start filming.
