Personally, I did 2 trips to the Maldives in the last 12mths. Beach fishing is only allowed on islands where local Maldivian people live. I use a 7ft medium action rod with 20lbs braid line, 30lbs mono leader with various types of lures.

Hi Alan, this is Luke, sorry for the late reply (Buried in Notifications), yes there is a minimum distance from a resort where fishing is allowed FROM and OFF and island. Recently I was in the Maldives shore casting and tried to sneak the distance but we got told no from the captain. Too close to the resort as they want the place to be a sanctuary of sorts. If you want to any help with that in the future I organise these trips now for shore, light popping, light jigging; if you want to get on a sport fisher to pop, I can point you in the right direction as FishingKaki.com is a partner with them. Let me correct you as I am local. Shore casting is allowed on any island but Resort Islands as they have strict rules on shore casting.

We were based on the Baa Atoll, you can't fish around Maldives because resorts are strict. Stay on a local island :)
