2013, late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo chose to visit Vietnam as his first country after re-taking office. In 2020, former PM Suga Yoshihide also chose Vietnam as his first visit after becoming PM. Most recently, PM Kishida Fumio welcomed Vietnamese PM as his first foreign leader visitor to Japan after H.E. Fumio took office. In 2023, Vietnam is also one of the few countries that Japan invited to attend (as a guest) of G7 when Japan host G7 in Hiroshima. Japan also invited Vietnam as a guest in G20 meeting when they presided several years ago. The diplomatic relationship between two country flourishes. Japan and VN will be celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relationship this year. I hope both nations and people can enjoy freedom and happiness.

Japan had played a big role in reconstructing the global supply chain and the late Shinzo also had the foresight to subsidies Japanese companies to move out of mainland China in Spring 2020 - far before any other country had begun to do so. Beijing's tariff hike against AU's minerals which ultimately cause an energy price hike or worse "unannounced/sudden shut down" was one of the 3 main factors that cause many factories to be in the Red.
This year's G7+ was indeed sufficient as if it's being forged to replace the existing G20 while Moscow/Beijing make their own circle to maintain their political position.

My boss and co-workers, majority of them are friendly, warm, helpful,... but some individuals are quite cold and even rude. Japan has help alot of developing nations. Here in the Philippines, when I was a kid in the 90s I always hear in my mother's office in the government of how JICA help them through trainings and supplies. On the streets I see fly overs with Japanese flag in them. And in our MRTs there are metal plates with Mitsubishi written on them. Most of our current Coast Guard patrol boats both donated and new came from Japan and there are 3 more brand new large ones to follow. Now, Japan is still helping the country in building one of the most largest project in the country our first subway with little interest loan compared to what China offers. Thank you Japan.

Currently we are constructing a flyover in busy Kampala (not my sector but we promote ourselves as a whole).Said projects and all the billions invested are worth so much more with a single thank you. I personally cherish your comment as it gives me a sense of delayed gratification, knowing that in the future our aid programs will be appreciated. I was only stating how Japan is helping developing countries like Vietnam and what's best to say it is by means showing examples from my own experiences here in my own developing country the Philippines. Even if I want to, I cannot give examples from Vietnam because it might not be that accurate and it may end up for me lying.

I do not agree with hard work, globalization has a huge gap between the rich and the poor, the effort itself will not be rewarded, should be through more technological development, as well as guide technology to serve to reduce the burden of people, rather than increasing human work.
As for honesty, I also feel that it is not very realistic in today's world because the United States, as the dominant player in the world, has not served to lead people toward honesty and trustworthiness, and has even exacerbated injustice and hatred. This spirit can be realized unless the world can live without the domination of the powerful.

But at lower levels such as business owners and such… I heard horror stories of human labor abuse to discrimination to Vietnamese. Some Vietnamese right now don’t trust the Japanese because of this. Hanoi is most polluted city in Southeast Asia, and that's one of the reasons Covid-19 have been killing way more Vietnamese than citizens of neighboring countries, as persistent pollution severely damage lungs and make them vulnerable to infections. The young, the old, and the handicaps are permanent 5th class citizens under the Vietnamese Commie regime, as the disadvantaged members of the society are often taken advantages of by others with no safety net nor societal protection whatsoever (fairly common sights are tattered pre-teeny kids and old men and women in their 60's, 70's begging or selling lottery tickets on the streets), and almost everyone 95% of population get abuses by the utterly corrupt and brutal Vietnamese Commie regime as their lands can be robbed by it anytime. Even during the pandemic when most countries provided aids to their citizens, the ruling Vietnamese Commies not only didn't provide aids (only about 1% received them and those were usually the members of privileged Commie ruling class or their own associates. Yes, they took citizens' tax money to selectively give it to themselves) coordinated with each other to exploit the citizens even more with their dangerous nostril test kits (made by their shell company Việt á) that they falsely claimed of having been approved by World Health Organization (WHO). The result was deadly, as tens of thousands of people died needlessly. Yes, these ruling Vietnamese Commie lowlifes saw the pandemic as another great opportunity not to help but to make money out of the already indigent Vietnamese citizens most of whom could barely survive after being steered like animals by the brutal Vietnamese Commie military police into barbwired, unhygienic quarantined areas sleeping on the floors with inadequate food, water, toilet, beds, and medicine. All true. Do your research. Caveat emptor! Search for patients lying on concrete floors in hospital corridors and even under beds from Google Images. Torrential floods essentially all over the country half of the year, while HCM is a sinking city.

A small personal note as a 90s Vietnamese kid living in the biggest port city during the era, Japanese products are something extremely popular and admired. Many locals who worked on ship were able to make huge deals by importing the 2nd hand electronic goods; many Northern parents generation had experienced the programs that exchange Vietnamese locals coming to Japan to study; mostly poor students who got high academic potential but could not afford financial status for abroad studying; it shows that Japan has chosen Vietnam in different ways of approaching long ago. Since then, the Japanese are highly respected and looked up to by locals; the relationship continues to my generation as Millennials; many of my fellows coming to Japan for exchange programs, or stories of locals coming to Japan for low-level work; its just sad that many left a bad reputation for the Vietnamese community in Japan somehow

Many Vietnamese workers in Japan find it difficult to transition to a developed lifestyle/living standard. Some resort to loans to pay off service fees on Vietnam side. So when facing hardship or a strenuous work life in Japan, they began to steal things to increase their incomes. A systematic problem that requires the co-operation between both government to solve.

It is true that some Vietnamese who have gone to Japan often commit crimes such as theft in Japan. Because of this, in recent years the reputation of the Vietnamese seems to be gradually becoming less good than it used to be. But basically, many Japanese people know that Vietnamese, like Japanese, are hardworking and serious people. And they also feel sorry for them because they know that they commit such crimes out of poverty due to high loan repayments. We must expose unscrupulous businessmen in Vietnam who make people who want to go to Japan take out unreasonable loans for exorbitant amounts of money when they should not have gone there yet.

Vietnamese Commie regime has been Commie China's puppet since 1944 when Chinese puppet Ho Chi Minh brought the Commie Chinese flag (red flag with central yellow star) from Fujian Province, China and made it the flag of North Vietnamese Commie and later the flag of the whole country, replacing the authentic one (yellow with 3 horizontal red stripes) of 2000 years since the Trung Sisters from year 40 A.D. and Than Thai King of Vietnam. Commie Ho Chi Minh's deadly land-reform was also modeled after Commie Mao's deadly land-reform, which modeled after Commie Lenin's deadly land-reform 1920's. Other than the gap 1979-1989 when Vietnamese Commies followed Soviet in response to Soviet-Sino split, Vietnamese Commie regime has been a loyal lapdog of Chinese Commie regime for decades since 1944. In Spratly Island Massacre 1988 (see UA-cam video of the same name), Commie Vietnam's Defense Minister Le Duc Anh ordered Vietnamese sailors to stand unarmed in shallow water to be live target for Commie Chinese Navy's live gunship so that Commie China could take over the islands easily. He was then promoted by Commie China to be Commie Vietnam's president 4 years later in 1992. All anti-China protests in Vietnam have been swiftly crushed by Commie Vietnamese minions. Even during the Covid pandemic, Vietnamese Commies had to ask their masters for permission (not granted) to close its northern border. All true. Do your research!

Japan now may not in the top list investor to Vietnam as past few years but Japan have a long long good impaction and influent on Vietnam so far. It is really good for a developing country get the support from a develop country as Japan is doing not only short time, it is a few decade already.
Beside of the improve of economic system, I can feel that we get much more benefit than that from the Aid system, infrastructure system and community project or even we can learn from them a lot (not all are good but so many good things) such as working mindset, organizing things and a lot of other things...we can name it.
Any investment to my country is really value to us but for which the investment can help us developing our country about the country's image, our voice in the global or improve the life style, education, aid, infrastructure, community, green energy....it is a gold and not so many FDI can do it as Japan.

Thai is taught in all primary schools around the world. Thailand is very kind, so when imperialist and colonial countries ask who can help, Thailand raises its hand first. Thailand is very modest, so in the process of development, Thailand waits for other countries to catch up, because what Thailand took nearly 100 years to achieve in other countries (China, Vietnam and South Korea) only took 30 years.

Vietnamese like to bash China and praise any possible counter-balance to China. Well that's unfortunately part of Vietnamese identity. What happen to the Saigon subway contracted to the Japanese? What happen to the north-south express railway contracted to the Japanese? Both have been heavily delayed and suffered serious cost over-run!
The north-south express rail, Japan is now charging US$38 million per kilometer. China cost would be US$27 million per km. Completion estimate? 2045-2050! China built the Laos express rail for $6 billion, with many more mountains and tunnels that no other country would want to do. So that's "Japan advantage" for Vietnam?

True there were some closures like Nissan but if you search there are still many known Japanese manufacturing companies still active in the Philippines like Mitsubishi, Toyota and Bandai just to name some. Perhaps the reason for the replacement in the first place is that labor costs are rising in the manufacturing industry in China. In addition to that and other factors, in order to avoid the influence of the CCP, foreign companies that were operating the manufacturing industry are withdrawing from China.

To say Japan chooses Vietnam is kind of disingenuous. Japan invested 30 Billion ODA for 30 years, but Japan invested 506 billion USD ODA to China for the past 40 years. Does it mean Japan choose China more than Vietnam? All of the investments described in the video, Japan did them to China and did them more. So this is more likely a narrative piece to promote Japan to Vietnamese people, to shift their perception on Japan in the WWII, and to build friendly relationship countering China. That said, we have some very deep ties to Moscow, with our brand of communism developing directly through Soviet communism, and with the USSR providing valuable aid during the Vietnam War, and the subsequent border war against China. We have normalized relations with China, but Anti-Chinese sentiments run very deep, what with China's long history of trying to eat us up like a snack, we probably would never view our neighbor to the north without a healthy modicum of wariness. With modern Russia proving to be a paper bear, and China being the hungry, expansionist empire it is, we have been distancing ourselves from the Communosphere as of late. I HATE TO MENTION IT BUUUT…I have been to Vietnam and the metro venture you mentioned which “aims” (very key word here) to stop congestion in HCMC is an abandoned or at least indefinitely halted project due to corruption that led to continued delays (according to a local). Go there and you will see both flags on signs posted on this partially finished metro system which looks abandoned. I love both countries and appreciate the bright side perspective of this video but I will say that it made me wonder about the details of the other projects you mentioned here. ❤🇯🇵🇻🇳

I want to update you that this metro line was put into operation earlier this year. I know that Vietnam still has many problems, including corruption (a problem that most countries encounter). I just want to say that if we want to develop, we need to limit negative things and promote things positive. Because if we just keep looking at bad problems or unhappy things in the past, we will forever treading water. The old generation has passed away but the new generation is still growing, we are all trying harder for ourselves and the next generation. Vietnam is gradually eliminating individuals/organizations that have been corrupt or harmful to the country's development. We will prove it and hope Japan will always stand together with Vietnam

Amazing, how Japan, even though completely ravaged after WW2, managed to become a global superpower and cultural powerhouse in just a few decades. Of course, they did not achieve this alone, but with some aid from US. These days, you can see a bit of Japanese influence in so many countries (and maybe even in your place right now), whether its culture, history, entertainment and technology. A famous quote: "Defeat is not the end of Japan, In the future we will still be the strongest nation” - Emperor Hirohito

othet parts Japan are not really ravaged during the WWII expect the two cities which are nuked,
Japan becomes rich in modern era because it takes the resources from its neighbors by invasion to industrialize itself,
before WWII, like German, Japan has already industrialize, so they can recover quickly after WWII,
so for other developping countries, it is impossible to copy the beginning of Japan's industrialization,
after WWII, Japan is integrated into the western economical cycle, Japan's sea road is protected by US navy, under US military occupation and protection, Japan can foucu into economic development,
the price is no one will consider Japan as an equal of US, or a leader of its own Sphere,
if Germany manages to reconcile with other nations in Europe, becomes co-leaders of European Union ale to match with the US and China,
Jaoan doesn't have this political capacity, today, no one will really consult or care Japan's opinion about the important international issues, since we know Japan will just follow instruction from US,
there were many advantages to become US vassal or auxiliary, but the price is Japan loses its strategic independence,
as you have said, Japan get aid from the US, it helped Japan to become successful, but it also limit Japan to go farer,
the 80s US-Japan trade war is an example, Japan loses again, unable to resist, Japan surrender again,
people in the West prefer Japan because Japan is wealthy, advanced, but domesticated by the West, unable to threaten the supremacy of the Western,
we can give so many compliments to Japan's qualities, but no one will consider Japan as an equal of Greco-Roman civilization, or the US and EU today, unlike China, whcih has been the equal of Roman Empire which still exists today,
the challenges for Japan is in more and more high-tech industrial fields, Japan loses its absolute advantage face to its Asian competitor,
smartphone, PC, many electric appliances, Internet, civil drones,
later it may be the automobile industry,
and in aeronautics and aerospace, Japan has never dominated,
the future of Japan will be more and more narrow,
when we take a look how many States Members are inside Shanghai Cooperation Organization, AIIB, Silk Road Fund and the future enlarged BRICS organization, led by China,
we will realize that, reinforcing the relationship between Japan and some Asian or Western countries is by far not enough to compete with China's global influence and domination,
the zenith of Japan is becoming the strongest ally/side-kick of US in East Asia, Japan is a very successfully nation frim 1850 to the beginning of 21st centry, but no one can guarantee it will still be the case in the future,
because in East Asia, there is only one Sun, when one rises again, the other will sink, the decline of Mongol Empore is an example,

It all boils down to securing favorable trade routes in ASEAN and blocking trade routes from China and South Korea when needed. • @fromfareastindy8234

I think it is only natural that China would consider economic security, but if China's trade routes were to be cut off, I can only imagine that would be if China had a problem.
The reason is simple: uncertainty and dishonesty in government and financial economy, just like China's inability to join the TPP.
But China will not admit it, and like Russia's Vladimir Putin, they will never admit their mistakes or ambitions.
Authoritarian states will do anything to protect themselves.

We did make a rather hasty transition to industrialization, albeit for a reasonable cause, and adapting the 2 children system for population control surely had made it worse than anyone of the time could have imagined. Now with an aging population VN possibly has like a 1 to 2 decades window to get more foreign companies to set up factories in designated tech hub to guarantee a long time financial commitment while waiting for Japan to solve the population puzzle. Since the political power ia centralized in one party in VN the gorv should, hopefully, be able to make use of this time window since its the only time when having one central power is a good idea.

Most important trade route in the world: each year the amount of goods passing through the Strait of Malacca into the South China Sea and vice versa ... is worth "mucho moolah"
US and Japan both understand that China cannot monopolize the South China Sea / The islands and rocks "reformed" by China into military bases in the Spratlys are like a blood clot with the economic lifeblood of the US and Japan

I am Vietnamese and i'm happy if Japan wants to cooperate with Vietnam. However, Japan of today has lost most of its assets and secrets, there is not much we can work with each other. Japanese companies are just too slow and losing out of everything from semiconductor to automobile. This is so sad. If only Japan is not caged by the USA, perhaps their society would not be lackluster as it is now, and they may still maintain their competitiveness and we can both work toward mutual success. But for now i'm very reluctant thinking about working with Japan.

Japan is not "caged by the USA". Japan's situation is of it's own making: too much debt, too slow to adapt from outdated economic models, overegulation, and high taxes.
