I've used label paper for this process and it works great. Peel all the labels off first, then print your image onto the slick side of the paper. The paper peels easily off the wood; no rubbing required. The image came out nice and dark even on dark stained wood. I did let it set for 24 hours per the Mod Podge instructions.
I have been using mod podge since the late 80's and used it on image transfer since then as well. Although back in the day the instruction was to just paint right over the image with mod podge instead of removing the paper. Removing the paper is much better as it last longer and looks better. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for answering a question I was going to ask about...laying the image face up on the modpodged wood instead of facedown...I recognize the difference it would make now👍🏼
Hi Liz it is so nice to see you sit down and talk like you are in the same room with us! It’s just you being you! I love the relaxed vibe! Always enjoy your videos but today was great!! 💕🥰
@@chinaaurrabazo193 Really??? Cause I’ve been going to Office Depot and having them print my photos but they have $5 minimum for printing services so I’ve been spending a whole lot of money 😞
I like to put a white coat of paint on the wood and then sand it so that it gives it the distressed look and that way the wood gains definitely come through and the picture did also!!
Mod Podge makes a transfer medium you use the same way and it works beautifully. I didn't know you could do it with regular Mod Podge - I'm going to try that. But last Christmas I made personalized T-shirts for gifts with the transfer medium, and they've even held up in the wash.
Great tutorial! 💓 I have done this many times for gifts and it's always well received. I have actually use a homemade recipe of mod podge it's 2 parts (dollar tree) glue to 1 part water. (Works just the same as the good stuff for me and it's much cheaper) Also 8hrs is the least amount of time for it to set to have a good outcome. When I have given it as a gift I usually use 3 shiplap style wood put together or one good size piece. Wrap some twine 5 times around one side for a more finished look. Love it!
Yes I have done this & yes it’s can be tricky & sometimes frustrating! I watched many videos on it to make sure I was doing it right but sometimes I got so frustrated because I didn’t like outcome. I did have a little some success. So my suggestion is make sure it’s a laser print.😀
This is a wonderful project! I have done this multiple times. I have used modge podge but I found that I have the best success with Americana Decor Image Transfer medium. I put a thin coat on my wood and a thin coat on my image and let it dry. Then I add another coat to the wood and the image and while still wet, I place my image on my wood. I let it dry completely and then start with the water and a rag and mostly my fingers to get the remaining white paper left on the wood image. Getting that remaining paper off can take some time because you only see it when it starts drying but with time and patience it will turn into a beautiful art piece! I love all of your videos Liz!! I hope you have a blessed day!
Hi!! I have a question- have you used colored pictures or only black and white? I just realized my wood is a bit dark (I plan on starting my project tonight). What type of white paint would you recommend for behind - so it also doesn’t rub off? Thanks!! I’m excited!
When using dark cabinet panels, I sand down the area I'm using first. It removes the stain & leaves a great work area. Great way to use reclaimed items.
These are so neat! I’ve wanted to try, but no access to a laser printer. Recommendations on a good one?? Instead, we bought bathroom tiles and mod podge photos to them for coasters. They made perfect gifts and our families loved them! Have a beautiful wknd! ❤️
Did you print your photos on regular paper or did you use thicker paper? Also, any tips on removing the photo transfer from the wood if it didn’t turn out well the first time?
Inkjet works even better if you use it like a big wet stamp and put it directly on a transfer medium like polyacrylic or a super porous matte surface. I just got one for Christmas 😁💕
great tips at the end for how to avoid mistakes. did this before and it was great (dad nearly in tears - hiking photo on wood plaque with natural bark) so looking for tips for next attempt
Hi. I also have some questions for you: 1- before the procedure, is there anything on the slice of wood? 2- is the image somehow in the mirror ... to be printed properly? 3-What glue do you put on the image when you turn it over? 4- I saw that after it dried up you came across another lake ... what lake is it?5-on what type of paper is the picture printed? I'm from Romania .... the products probably have a different name here .... that's why I ask ... thank you in advance
I love you videos. They are inspiring ideas for my living room remodel. Which will be in a few months. My husband is building a man cave outside and all the taxidermy and furniture is going with him. So I’ll have to redo that room. So excited.
I want to do this.. when I visit or stay in campground or state park take a picture of sign (with kids ) and put on wood slice. cute decoration for inside camper. (Just bought a camper myself, named him TILLMAN- he is going to have a hippy relaxing vibe.)
I tried this twice and a white film is left over. It looks like paper fibers are in there as well. I was super gentle and got off all the paper that I could...even to the point of messing up my image in some spots. What did I do wrong?
I’ve never tried this, only bcuz I didn’t know how🤦🏽♀️ This looks easy but very delicate to do. I’ll try it. Thanks Liz...I absolutely love you girl💞 Awesome project👍🏼

I have done this before but just put the image face up. I used the sample floor tiles you take ( I don't know if this id stealing) from Home Depot. And also chipboard. The only thing is that the mod podge remained tacky. What could I have done different.?
My mother in law has asked me to make a cutting board so that she can modge podge a special menu on it for her brother. I know that we’ll need to somehow scan the menu and then “reverse” it so that you can read it, but is there anyway to seal this board to make it a piece to serve food? I don’t think a final layer of modge podge would allow for that… Thanks in advance for your help!
