Caius Ballad Is A Heartbroken Hellraiser

- This is a villain video tribute depicting the various scenes of an interesting villain from my memories, the fallen guardian and harbinger of Chaos, Caius Ballad (voiced by Liam O'Brien) from the 2011 Final Fantasy XIII-2 videogame. I found him to be an interesting villain due to his villainy being centered on saving someone from danger rather than selfishness. He was willing to destroy time itself and the Goddess of Death to save his protectorate from endless death. He showed how evil can be formed by benevolent selfish desire taken too far. Hope you enjoy him!
Caius was the best character in ff! He literally won. He used Noel an Serah to break the gift of etros heart to live in the chaos for eternity to the point where the chaos was so bad in world Bhunivelze had to start a new world and woke lightning. Caius then used lightning to betray god and he became god with all the Yuels! His dream of being with all Yuels came true 28:22. He was never a villain he was the “True Guardian” to Yuel. Even the respect he had for Noel at the end he gave him his Yuel! Caius Ballad the best ff character
He tried to commit FUCKING genocide and screw over the ENTIRE human race just to say a worthless cunt from a curse that was SELF INFLICTED.
I believe he may also be the first antagonist that is alive too. Aside from Sephiroth since he’s usually Cloud’s illusion as the real one actually died.
Caius in the novel after Lightning Returns has been said he can be seen only if you are at a verge of death or actually dead. Caius is practically “god” or “death” in that sense as he controls the spirits of the dead.
21:47. Caius's rant and emotion there is so GOOD. Really makes you feel for him with his anguish and frustration for Yuel.
I knew it was that part before clicking the timestamp, or at least I hoped it was.
As much as I enjoyed XIII-2, it was that part that stuck me all these years. It wasn't just "Yeul" that Caius wanted to save. The whole finale is really well done.
XIII-2 has so many memorable qualities, and I hope as time goes on, it keeps gaining the respect it deserves rather than being disregarded for being a sequel to an already-divisive game.
@@Excks I completely agree with you, FF13-2 is an underappreciated game sincerely but that's not a fatality, one day or one night it will be treated and evaluated rightfully and legitemly for its amazing esthetism, story, characters, soundtrack, atmosphere and environment, we have to hope beyond despair itself.
Now imagine Illidan Stormrage saying all that 🙂
@@oubunayeA simp for Tyrande
Words came out so strong even Serah couldnt bear to hear it. Cairus really had it rough.
Liam O'Brien was awesome as Caius
Caius, the man who Lightning clashed with for god knows how many years.....all for wht the gods took from him....the world may hate the 13 trilogy, but I never will
I won’t hate Caius but 13 had quite a few glaring problems.
@@Orcaluv26 YOU have quite a few glaring problems
@@krazyxki GOTTEM
Caius wasn’t even the villain much like Ardyn he was just a guy who got tired of the world screwing him over and decided to fight back
Sameeee
YEEEEEEEEES.
Vayne check
Sephiroth check
Kefka check
Master Xehanort double check
Now Caius? This just keep getting better and better.
Next it must be Ardyn Izunia. Please he deserve a villain tribute too. Same with Ansem seeker of darkness and Xemnas but especially Ardyn.
I love how he uses his sword as a blade, a staff, and a shield all at the same time.
This guy is why Kefka isn't that special anymore. Kefka destroyed the world, sure, but it didn't stick. Caius destroyed time and space itself and it stuck.
So much so that they literally needed to create a new world for people to live...
Kefka only wanted to inflict Suffering anyway, ruining the world is just a means for that. 2 different goals that doesn't coincide.
This villain was good. Great voice, tragic motivation and memorable design. If possible could you please make a video for Dr Tenma from Astroboy 2003? He was a terrific tragic villain, obsessed with getting Astro, who was based on his dead son and would stop at nothing to achieve his goal.
Already did. Just can't upload it here.
Copyrights again?
Just watched it. Thanks Emptyman. It did not follow the original Japanese script but the dub still managed to capture the tragedy of Tenma very well.
@@tayojones9460 I am glad the english version captured the tragic essence of Tenma and his villainous desire to regain the love of his lost son.
Will you be put Optimus from TF animated and Goliath from Gargoyles onto Vimeo?
Shouldve been playable in Dissidia
What, is he not playable in Dissidia! He would be the one of the best playable character
I'm just guessing, but maybe Caius and Kain sharing a voice actor is why Caius didn't make the cut.
22:05 This is beautifully tragic... Caius's entire story is worth a whole movie about him, that would be cool to see what he was doing exactly before FF13-2, but I thing honestly that it's a dream to believe this, not a hope... more of an ideal.
The best villan ever
lol.
Caius needs his own game.
Square Enix take notes.
I agree with this comment 💯
Honestly... I think anyone forced to live forever and see not only their friends and family die. Along with the one they love and care for most, dies. But it then reborn. Into a constant cycle of life and death, with him living forever and having to bare witness to it every time. I think it would drive any person to try and end a haunting cycle like that.
What makes this more tragic is that caius love for yeul is a paternal one, he literally watched, helplessly, the girl that he probably saw as a daughter die hundred of hundreds of time, again and again, withouth ever being able to trully help her.
I really wish we could have played as caius
Caius is such a great antagonist! 3:30 is one of many favorite lines.
The goddess made a wise choice…..
Powers of Chaos, bend to my will!
(Stops time) such a great battle, there should be more of these scenes!
Should there be Caius Ballad Is A Heartbroken Hellraiser Part II (Lightning Returns cutscenes)
25:35 ive seen this scene hundreds of times, and i still always get goosebumps. The music, atmosphere, and caius's tone. So intense.
Caius is the only antagonist who ultimately got what he wanted in the end.
Sure it took literally thousands of years, mountains of corpses, brief bouts of heartbreaking grief induced insanity, metric tons of scheming across all of spacetime, and the literal end of the world several times over... but hey, nobody said getting your happy ending wasn't hard fought.
I can't think of any other example of antagonist in the series that sympathetic and broken on top of being literally unkillable in every sense of the word.
Caius was the good character... Just saying
Liam O' Brien is BAE!!! :D
my one question:How to can you hate on this
Some people just aren’t as intelligent
...Arguably Final Fantasy's most tragic and sympathetic antagonist.
Oh, and he succeeded in destroying not just the world, but all of history. And all for a girl.
Best FF anti hero.
Even though lightning is my all time favorite ff character, i still loveeee caius. Its so rare to see a compelling villan.
If you ever do a video on Ardyn Izunia (Final Fantasy XV), here's an idea for a title
*Ardyn Izunia is a Fallen Prophet*
YES
Of course, but I will be uploading a video on Luxu/Xigar/Braig from Kingdom Hearts first.
not a fallen prophet, he was a deposed king who fell to darkness
21:18
I have played so many video games in my life time, and I only a couple have made me cry this and Metal gear solid 4, caius emotion and feelings at 21:47. breaks me every time "enough no more lies" and " despite that, she chose to live again... so she could be with you" gives me chills even today Final fantasy xiii-2 needs more love man!
31:43 I just love that scene
This guy is sexy af
nice show
that mogry costume, im dead
Justice League Action Including Ember
Why does he sound like garaa
Um, because they are both played by Liam O’Brien?
2:57 music???
23:20 song?
Sounds like Eternal Paradox to me
