"What's love got to do with it" was also a biopic movie about Tina Turner's life... Angela Bassett played Tina Turner, Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) played her abusive husband/ producer Ike Turner... it was a tough watch, seeing how she was abused over 2 decades, even as Ike & Tina Turner were a huge act in the 60's and 70's.
They made a scene in the movie where Tina broke free from Ike based on Tina Turner's own account... She and Ike got into a fight in a limo (they had a show that night) and she finally fought back and messed him up. They got to their hotel, and she looked in a bathroom mirror w/ her face swollen from the beating & knew she couldn't perform that night... She somehow snuck out of the hotel, ran to another hotel and begged the manager to give her a room (she had no money on her, but they recognized her) ... She was able to get a divorce (despite being broke) from Ike Turner, but only wanted to keep the name 'Tina Turner' to use for her career.
Tina Turner was able to come back in the 80's and became a solo superstar... while Ike Turner fell into obscurity.
Tina's been killing it since the late 50s!! 'Nutbush City Limits', 'River Deep, Mountain High', 'Let's Stay Together', an Al Green cover, is wicked too! 'Simply the Best', 'We Don't Need Another Hero', from an awful Mad Max movie (#3? -not her fault) in which she also starred. 'Private Dancer', written for Tina by Mark Knopfler(Dire Straits), guitar solo by Jeff Beck(ok, one more hero, lol). 'Better Be Good to Me', 'It's Only Love'.
This is tearing me up again, no surprise, EVERYONE was ecstatic to see her in her rightful place, back on top again, after leaving an abusive marriage with nothing but her name, building herself, her brand back up from square one. NO-ONE deserved it more.
Tina was famous for her strong legs and vitality. When she was 50 years old, she was voted "Best Legs" . You should react to the official video of her song "Simply the Best". She really showcases her legs in that one, it was right around the time she got the award.

Tina's a legend. This song (my personal favorite by her) was off her "Private Dancer" album in the mid-80's which was a comeback album for her and the start of a string of hits and success. This song is also the title of a movie about her starring Angela Bassett as Tina and Laurence Fishburne as her former husband, Ike Turner.
Think Tina was around 50 years by the time she sang this one. The movie was about her. Tina Turner is probably less well known these days but in the 1980´s she was still an american icon. She had a long career before the 1980´s. Also about 200 million sold records according to wikipedia. Might have sold even more than that.
I watched a documentary about her severe illness where her hubby was able to donate body part to save her life.. she's had an interesting life but to happy to see she's living the good life now.

Some people like her will stay 22 years old forever. Even in their 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's they feel age is just a number. I heard about seniors working, dancing, running marathons, weightlifting, painting, and owning their own business. I'm not shocked anymore.
