06-07 ugliest ZX-10R ever made, looks almost as heavy as sport-touring bikes and bulbous styling is not good looking, same styling goes for 07-08 ZX-6R.
I have had them both. My 12 put down 182 rwhp with flash, blocking plates, PC3, K&N and full Austin racing pipe. went -1+2 as well. My 06 was 166 on same dyno with PC, breather, full toce blah blah. Even though there was a supposed 16 hp difference I Honestly I couldnt tell the difference. They both pulled like crazy and were monsters. the 12 on the track was an easier bike to ride but I loved them both.
170kg vs 175kg dry weight, that's not much. The weight gained came from the new style under seat exhaust system. Gen 2 made slightly more power as well. With equal rider skill and weight, gen 2 has the edge.
That 06 ZX10r holds its own against the new bikes, wow!!!!

It's a big boy on the 06 so rider weights make a huge difference. I think horsepower on these bikes are almost same
Still drive my tuned '07 ZX10R (same as '06), about 200HP.

No it was not! Pretty similar power output with the 2nd gen having better and smoother power delivery. With equal rider skill, 2nd gen gets the edge.
dieselstar5 you forgot that the 1st gen is much lighter. And the smoothness is good on track, but on a straight line it's useless
