Watching this because watching my multies for several hours tonight wasn’t enough. 😂. I started with 7, now I have at least 20 free swimming fry. I can’t get enough of watching them.
Shell dwellers are so fun.
@@TMAquatics I’m watching them now!
Great tips I might try this on my multies
Great tips Tom. I really like the real shell look, seems like it’s worth the bit of extra work.
Cool methods Tom!
I like the technique !
Thanks Tom! Great video as always, I will actually be moving a bunch of multi's in the next few days
Thanks for the great tips! Seems like your shellies are breeding like crazy! Congrats 😀
Amazing videos very informational!!!
Thanks Tom I will give this a try. I was told to remove the shell and Flip over a cup and put the show on top because if I only go to the bottom so when they come out of his shell a drop-down
Good stuff man. Been kicking the idea around for a while of starting a shell dweller tank. My youngest daughter likes them.
Mark Shelly Aquatics This is the tank I spend 75% of my time watching. Always something going on that draws my attention. That and the fact I keep a lot of plecos and they’re never out 🤣
Think I need to remove when fry hatch because I had two groups of new fry that seem to have disappeared?
As I recently acquired six of these, I am eager to learn every trick in the book!
If you need more, I know where you can get some 😉👍 They’re meat little fish.
Great video I just came across your channel.i have over 50 gold ocalatos adults also.
Great video as usual. I’m still interested in the ocellatus. Let me know when your available
What kind of sand do you use?
NEED ME SOME!!! :D
How did you find male and female
How much do you sell your ocellatus for? And do you ship?
Thanks
This video is Brilliant!!! What do you feed your fry and out of interest why remove them at all?
do you have more for sale!!!
How could I buy 20 of the gold Shelly's
Why do you need to remove the fry for maximum yield? Do the parents eat some of the fry?
Nice Video at TM Aquatics! In most of the other shell dweller videos that I have seen, the fry are just left in the main aquarium. Is there a benefit in yield to removing the fry.
Ocellatus are aggressive and will often kill and eat the fry, unlike Multis, which is the common shell dweller most people think of. They are also much more territorial. I’m sure some would survive, but it would be a much lower percentage. Since my focus is selling these for profit, which I then reinvest back into the fish room (equipment, food, more zebra plecos, etc) removing the fry is the only thing that makes sense. There is no benefit to leaving the fry in the tank. By pulling, I maximize yields, and can get much more food to the fry, resulting in better growth, healthier fish, and quicker sales. This video is really geared towards hobbyists who want to make the most coin from breeding. 😉👍
@@TMAquatics Got it!!! Thanks for the explanation.
What do you have hooked to the other end of airline tubing to create flow?
Nothing. It’s just a piece of air tube.
When you've emptied the shell of fry, do you give that shell back to the mom? If so, what does she do? If there is a fry left will she resume her guard? Fascinating vid Tom. Really enjoyed learning how to pull these fry. Thanks for sharing.
Yes Bob. She usually checks out the inside of course, the usually starts to rearrange the shell. In some cases she’ll abandon that shell and claim a new one near by.
In Sydney Australia it was a effort to find the shell dwellers especially Neolamprologus similis, but finally got my hands on them and love them.
my colony has now bred several times so I will be looking to spread these little gems out for others to enjoy as much as i do.
Anyone interested Details are in my name
Great Video thanks
Nice collection bro .... I had my first spawn but they didnt last a couple of days ....
I know they are small but my goal is to set up a 50 gallon lowboy with Goldens. I love these fish.
would love to buy where do you sell?
Do these fish eat their babies ?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.. Do you sell/ship your Shellies ?? Where I live there are No LFS other than the Big Box stores.. I really want to start my own colony of Shell Dwellers.. I would want to wait until Spring to have any shipped so they are not in the Cold.. Again, thanks..
Yes. I will resume shipping in Spring. 👍
Very helpful. How long can you keep those fry in the box?
That’s relative to how large the spawn is. I keep them in as long as possible so I can target feed. Usually a few weeks. Then they are moved to a larger grow out tank.
TM Aquatics Thanks, Tom! That makes sense. I guess one avarage spawn per box? And would the fry be large enough to sell after a few weeks? I don't think my wife would be happy with another tank. :)
I found this video interesting. shellies are easy to bred and take care I guess.
Multifasciatus are easy yes, but many struggle with Ocellatus due to their aggressive behaviors and tendencies to kill and eat fry.
Great video. What brand is your fry box? Is it on Amazon?
I use two different types. The internal breeder box is a Ziss BL-2. The external is a marina large, link to amazon below is in the video description. Thanks for stopping by.
@@TMAquatics Do you prefer one box over the other?
Shellies are such a temptation....
Just do it. Most fascinating tank I have. But then again no one claimed plecos were exciting 🤣👍
can i purchase some of your fry? i would love to buy at least a dozen!
Email me at 550Aquatics@gmail.com
show me rainbow fish
Why don't you let them grow with the parents?
I do when I run out of grow out tank. Otherwise I remove to maximize yield. Some always get eaten or killed by the adults if I leave them in. Since my fish room is a breeding for profit fish room, I want as many to survive as possible. The females also come down on eggs faster when I remove the fry.
