Ohhhhh my gosh. I’ve been struggling with the bobbin concept for years. YEARS. Something about your video literally made the concept click!!! Thank you!!
i have been avoiding graphgans for years because i got tired of having the damn bobbins everywhere!!! I can't believe how easy you just made this!!! Is there a noble prize for crochet cause if they are you ma'am have won it in my book!!!
Genius! Such a cheap, but VERY effective way to manage yarn. This could be used for a number of crochet, knit, and any other yarn crafts. Smart lady! Your work is beautiful also. Thanks so much for this video!
Wow, I was just going to order one of those bobbin holders on the wooden stand. That would have meant turning over the whole stand AND my work without getting everything tangled up. Here I come Dollar Tree!! Thanks, Stephanie
I am so glad I found this video. I can't believe how simple a fix the clips are. You saved my sanity as I am working on a project with about 20 changes per row
Those clips are genius!! I'm starting my 1st graphgan today and I was tryin to figure what I could use as bobbins. Looks like I'm goin to the dollar tree tomorrow
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I was going to give up the idea of making an graph ghan for my son for Christmas as I can't leave my projects out due to having a cat with yarn fetish. He I come dollar tree :) :D
Hi! I have to say, your video was very helpful. I am utilizing your idea of using the large clamp things as yarn bobbins, such an amazing idea. So I've bought some of those clamps and I can't hear your video, but wanted to just note, if anyone else is trying this idea, don't wind the yarn too tightly around the clip. If you do, it won't be able to open properly. Great video!!!!
Thank you so much! This is the best explanation I've come across and I have been looking for days! I'm going to share it with a group I'm apart of on Facebook to help others!
I LOVE THIS! Your way of using bobbins are the best I have seen yet. I'm excited to start my next project as soon I get the clothes pins.... You are the BEST! Thank you so much for sharing 👍👌
The bobbins are bought from the Dollar Tree! You get 6 for a buck! If you don't have a dollar tree in your area, they online ship as well!! My favorite!
brilliant thanks I went to the dollar store and got my clothes pins! We are going to the Beach in 6 days and I have been working on a Beach graphgan since April 20th fingers crossed this idea will get it done faster!
This might be my saying grace. I'm trying c2c and graphghan for the 1st time and even simple patterns are giving me greif because my bobbins are constantly getting tangled. The clips seem to look much easier to manage.
Hi and thank you for your excellent tutorial! X I'm a beginner still with Crochet but have been sucked in to the whole C2C Graphgan thing lol I've spent the last couple of days designing a Thomas the Tank onto graph paper and had a couple of plain coloured trial runs of 10x10 squares to get an idea of size. tonight I have been unsuccessfully trying to use 4 bobbins of the many I will be using to perfect the technique before getting on to the real thing. EPIC FAIL! :'( mostly due to not being able to carry the yarn to where I needed it as well as untidy ends. This idea of having duplicate starting points for the same colour thread is perfect as is using the jumbo pegs (inspired) I've never seen those where I live in England so will need to figure out an alternative. It's almost midnight here and I've just given up in despair but I now feel ready to try again tomorrow, thank you xxx
Nonna M Yes, I begin with one plain row of sc, twice as many stitches wide as are in my graph with no color changes, just a solid base row to begin with. Example,, 50 blocks wide in graphs, i begin with 100 sc. Each block on your graph will consist of two rows & 4 stitches and all will be of the same color. row 1 is the bobble and the sc that follows, row two is the sc on top of the bobble and the sc on top of the sc that followed the bobble. Hope that helps!
I suppose it would. But I feel like because they are so much smaller you would be constantly reloading them which could get annoying. Do you have a Dollar Tree? They are only 1.00 for 4 or 5 in a pack!
cheryl grier hello I do prefer bobbles be done with 5 double crochets for graph because then the image looks the best to me. But that would be a personal choice for you! also for my turning chains on double crochet I prefer a chain 2 as opposed to a chain 3. But you would want to not do a chain one. Hope that helps!
Hello, I just found your tutorials & love this one. I want to use bobbins but just cannot understand how to carry them from one row to the next without it showing. What advice can you offer? So I literally cut & restart with each color.
Traci Austin Murdaugh Hi! If you message me on my Facebook page at facebook.com/crochetverse I can send some UA-cam links to show you how to do it that I found helpful. You can usually carry up one row and to the right and left one (sometimes 2) stitches. if you have random bloops of the color all over, you will need a bobbin for each. send me a message and show me a graph you are thinking of making and I can try to help!
How do you determine how much yarn you put on your bobbin? Is it just guess work and then you attach more thread when you run out or do you have a method?
it's best that you got 5 packs.. I'm wishing now I had some for the Superman graphgan I just made.. well I only did the logo part so far.. so I may go get some soon when I get ready to do the word part. I'm constantly having to rearrange my yarns and I've kinda learned a system on how to flip it one way then flip the opposite way to keep the yarn from becoming a tangled mess.. still isn't the easiest thing to do though.. and I have two cats and two dogs the dogs enjoy playing on top of or sleeping on the yarn.. the cats like sleeping on it or playing with it.. I also have two children living with me. my niece and nephew. the largest place for me to work is my bed of course but not the safest. so when I'm done for the day I have to put all mine in a bag. and I was working with I think it was 17 different balls of yarn at once. this clip things would've worked great. to me 6 wouldn't be enough.. 30 should be.. and if one breaks you have an extra..
cheryl grier It will depend on yoir graph, but your 1st row is going to be a row of sc that will be 2x the number of however many blocks you have across on the 1st row of your graph (for the bobble stitch style) For example, if your graph is 50 blocks wide, you will chain 101, so you can sc into the 2nd chain from the hook and have 100 sc in tbe 1st row (50 x 2). This is your base row and the pattern will begin on the next row. Check out the Seattle Seahawks Bobble Graphgan on repeatcrafterme.com. She has a video on it too!
Hi! Each block on the graph consists of the bobble, the sc after it, then also the 2 sc on top of those stitches on the next row. So, you will change color at the final yarn over and pull through of the single crochet BEFORE the bobble where a color change is needed. always do a color change at the final yarn over and pull through of the stitch just PRIOR to the one you need a new color on. Hope this helps!
with the clothes pin closed, I wrapped as many times I could around the middle area evenly without it making it impossible to open the clip. then as they run out, just refill..
I want to make an graphgan which I already have the pattern but I was told I need to work one way (right to left) to make the picture look crisper. Is this true in your experience?
hopelivewell Do me a favor and message me through my Facebook page at facebook.com/crochetverse I'll need to see you graph and ask some questions so I can best help you:)
Not with the c2c stitch because it is worked corner to corner. But graphgans can also be done in bobble stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and even double crochet though I do not prefer the dc. Those are all worked side to side
Mary Fender Would depend on your yarn and tension, but I prefer graphgans more tightly stitched for better image definition. I am a fairly tight crocheter and using worsted weight yarn. The hook would be G or H :)
Hi I have a question, when you have a graph that is for a sc but says it can be worked in a c2c how do you calculate the number of c2c verses sc's? I know c2c would be a lot bigger if I go by the same graph.
Michelle Goodney each Square on the graph will equate to 1 block of C2C. to understand that, go to my channel and watch the video on C2C. I bet that clears things up for you!!
I honesty do not know what you are asking. This video here I made is English. The graphs you follow are just an image therefore would cross all languages the same. Are you asking me how to find videos in English to learn how to do C2C? If yes. Search the Crochet Crowd and look within their tutorials.
Graphs are usually an image and that is it. When they are deciphered into written from the graphed picture, that usually means they end up being paid patterns as there is quite a bit of time involved in that process. You can try repeatcrafterme.com too. That would be my best advice. Hope you find what you are looking for!
Ok, I'm a little confused and seem to be the only one. LOL Since you are using the bobbins and you are NOT cutting as you go, where are all those tails coming from?
hi! you can only carry the yarn usually one block up, left, or right without it showing through, so, when the color moves to a spot further than that, you need to cut and rejoin, the bobbins reduce the tails, but you'll still have what seems like a ton ha!
I'm sorry, I've VERY new to graphghans and I still don't understand. I get what you are saying about having to carry the yarn up one or two blocks but to me, it just seems like a lot of work to set up the bobbins. Almost as much as it would to have the lose ends. :( I'm starting a graphghan now and trying to decide if it will be worth using bobbins or not. Sorry :(
+Chrissy Christian Hi! I'm so sorry I'm just seeing this now, how did it go? Graphgans and bobbins are always kind of fiddly, but bobbins are ALWAYS worth it :)
what about clipping them to the bottom of the project? I've tried that instead of re-attaching them each time I turn it. It seems to work well - I'm just wondering what you think....
the stitch used on this video is bobble stitch. to work it ad a graphgan, I recommend ypu go to repeatcrafterme.com and search her blog for bobble stitch graphgan. it is how I learned!
Can I ask for your help? Do you have any good links to how to write up a c2c graphghan? I want to do a storm trooper one for my husband but I can't work from a picture as I just can't keep track. I want to figure out how many bobbins to prep x
Try stitchfiddle.com you will want to select "embroidery version" . You will need to tell it the size you want. Baby: 35 blocks wide Twin: 49 blocks wide Queen/Full: 70 blocks wide. Using size H /5mm hook every 7th square is approx 6" depending on your tension. Hope this helps!
Ohhhhh my gosh. I’ve been struggling with the bobbin concept for years. YEARS. Something about your video literally made the concept click!!! Thank you!!

Hey! Thank you! I'm so glad it inspired you to get back to your graphgan!
Nette isme thank you!! I am so happy to hear that!!
This is genius!! I have shied away from trying a graphgan because of the bobbins. Seeing this is making me more confident to try one :D
Thank you! You made that very clear. I am working on my very first graphgan and feeling a bit overwhelmed on the row before my first color change.
Genius! Such a cheap, but VERY effective way to manage yarn. This could be used for a number of crochet, knit, and any other yarn crafts. Smart lady! Your work is beautiful also. Thanks so much for this video!
thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I am so glad you found it useful!
so glad I found your video! About to start my first graphgan and I was doing a little research to save myself time in advance
Clipping the clothespin/bobbins to your work.... OMG, brilliant!!
Thank you so much! My little nuggets getting into my work inspired this out of necessity haha!
Wow, I was just going to order one of those bobbin holders on the wooden stand. That would have meant turning over the whole stand AND my work without getting everything tangled up. Here I come Dollar Tree!! Thanks, Stephanie

Genius! Thank you so much! I've never done bobbin before and I'm totally using your clothespin idea.
Thank you so much! This is the best explanation I've come across and I have been looking for days! I'm going to share it with a group I'm apart of on Facebook to help others!
Thank you for the tutorial! I've been interested in trying a simple graphgan pattern for a Christmas gift and I now feel ready to take it on!
Awesome! I'm so glad it helped!

+Crochetverse thank YOU
if you use a wooden dowel you can clip the bobbins onto that wooden dowel and never have to clip and unclip over and over.
Thanks so much for the wonderful advice! I got several packs of the large clamps and they work PERFECT for color changes. Thanks again!
@tammy, you are so welcome!
The jumbo clothespins are genius! Thank you for making such an informative vid :)

I love your video. I like the bobble and bobbin method. I found a Rudolph pattern. how do I match the colors?
Very beautiful craft 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

This is great! Thank you! I'm going to be working on my first graphgan and this answered all the questions I had.
Fabulous! so happy to hear that!

@tanya glad you think it will help! if you have any questions, please just ask on the Facebook page Crochetverse :)
When starting a graphgan with bobbles, do you have to double the number for the starting chain
Thank you
I found a graph I love and made my sc row. when I turn for the bibbles is it a ch 1 or 3? bobble videos are confusing.
I have regular clothes pins will those work? They are the ones that you can open and shut.
I suppose it would. But I feel like because they are so much smaller you would be constantly reloading them which could get annoying. Do you have a Dollar Tree? They are only 1.00 for 4 or 5 in a pack!
wow what a great ideal thank you so much for sharing ....
Thank you. This video is most helpful.
Genius idea and excellent tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
for your bobble stitch, how many dc did you do for your bobble? is it a personal choice? All the videos are 5. I like a little smaller.
cheryl grier hello I do prefer bobbles be done with 5 double crochets for graph because then the image looks the best to me. But that would be a personal choice for you! also for my turning chains on double crochet I prefer a chain 2 as opposed to a chain 3. But you would want to not do a chain one. Hope that helps!

Are you working at a table? Like to sit back and crochet. To save my back from getting sore.
Just found this. Great, great idea and very creative. I'm going to be a copy-cat. Thanks for the video.
please do! they are a lifesaver and are soo cheap!
Finally a method that works for me!!! Thank you so much!!
Raquel Clark that is so wonderful!
How do you determine how much yarn you put on your bobbin? Is it just guess work and then you attach more thread when you run out or do you have a method?
I load them up with as much as it'll reasonably hold, then as it runs out, I just add more, hope that helps!
I absolutely LOVE this idea! thank you for sharing!
awesome! so glad it helped!
hi, I found a cross stitch pattern for jack jack from the incredibles. Can I use that for a graphgan? How would I do that?
Went to dollar tree today and got my clips!!! 6 for a $1. I bought 5 packs. Why not. Lol. Imma start a graphghan one day. 😬
it's best that you got 5 packs.. ok you said there would be a link to your free patterns for graphs in the comments.. I don't see it.. can you help me out ? thanks
below your comment right here is the link to the pinterest board with all the graphs :)
Where is the link
Sorry. another question. how do you know how many chains to make to start?
cheryl grier It will depend on yoir graph, but your 1st row is going to be a row of sc that will be 2x the number of however many blocks you have across on the 1st row of your graph (for the bobble stitch style) For example, if your graph is 50 blocks wide, you will chain 101, so you can sc into the 2nd chain from the hook and have 100 sc in tbe 1st row (50 x 2). This is your base row and the pattern will begin on the next row. Check out the Seattle Seahawks Bobble Graphgan on repeatcrafterme.com. She has a video on it too!
Thank you so very much. makes sense. I love the bobbin method.
good tip never thought of it or seen it before thanks
ok so we changge the color at the sc in between the boobles ? am i understanding it right
Love this. Thank you so much
how did you wrap your yarn around clothes pins
with the clothes pin closed, I wrapped as many times I could around the middle area evenly without it making it impossible to open the clip. then as they run out, just refill..
I'm so bummed, I went to my dollar tree and they have them, I even looked online and couldn't find the. any help would be appreciated.
I have ordered them from Amazon:
smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BSAEOC6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
How many Bobbins Will I need for color changes
I want to make an graphgan which I already have the pattern but I was told I need to work one way (right to left) to make the picture look crisper. Is this true in your experience?
hopelivewell Which method do you want to use ideally for your graphgan? How many blocks wide and tall is your prospective graph?
One is going to be a blanket the size of a Queen bed the other either a King or a Twin.
hopelivewell Do me a favor and message me through my Facebook page at facebook.com/crochetverse I'll need to see you graph and ask some questions so I can best help you:)
really like this technique. thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Awesome! What program do you use to create the graph?
I have used an app for Android called pixel Builder. The icon is a man in a little construction worker hat
thanks so much! Those clips will be a life saver!!
thank you so much for this im starting out with an owl but got tangled up but this helps me alot thanks again
Thanxx i am makin my 1st graphgan and its challenghing
Question Graphgans Can I go across?
Not with the c2c stitch because it is worked corner to corner. But graphgans can also be done in bobble stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and even double crochet though I do not prefer the dc. Those are all worked side to side
Ok cool
OK so from what I am watching I’m doing A character from The Simpsons how many chains do I do like if it was bart
I do it that way as well! Definitely is easier to take it in the car ❤️ 😂
love this style
Can you link to the puff stitch tutorial?
Crochetverse thanks much I love how they look.
Thanks for this video very easy to understand and very helpful Thanks:)
What hook size you're using?
This was very helpful for me! thank you!
I'm so glad it helped!
This is brilliant! Thank you!!
LaDonna Kliewer So welcome, thank you!
where do you buy your yarn clamps/bobbins
Can you post the link to your Pinterest page please

great video.....
Genius! Thank you.
Help I need C2c that are in English not Different languages that I don’t understand
I honesty do not know what you are asking. This video here I made is English. The graphs you follow are just an image therefore would cross all languages the same. Are you asking me how to find videos in English to learn how to do C2C? If yes. Search the Crochet Crowd and look within their tutorials.
Yes I know but I need to find graph pictures that I can follow
Graphs are usually an image and that is it. When they are deciphered into written from the graphed picture, that usually means they end up being paid patterns as there is quite a bit of time involved in that process. You can try repeatcrafterme.com too. That would be my best advice. Hope you find what you are looking for!
Ok thank you
Ok, I'm a little confused and seem to be the only one. LOL Since you are using the bobbins and you are NOT cutting as you go, where are all those tails coming from?
hi! you can only carry the yarn usually one block up, left, or right without it showing through, so, when the color moves to a spot further than that, you need to cut and rejoin, the bobbins reduce the tails, but you'll still have what seems like a ton ha!
check this video for a other view! ua-cam.com/video/cCpRycTLwg4/v-deo.html
+Crochetverse Oh ok. Thank you for clearing that up :D
It seems to work well - I'm just
wondering what you think....
If it works for you then absolutely!
Thanks so much for this!
Wow, great mind. Thanks.
@handsthatrockcrochet you're welcome!
GENIUS!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Where can I these graphs for free
Go to Pinterest and search Crochetverse. There I have a board called "C2C Graphgans" where there are a ton!
Are all in English
the stitch used on this video is bobble stitch. to work it ad a graphgan, I recommend ypu go to repeatcrafterme.com and search her blog for bobble stitch graphgan. it is how I learned!
Repeat crafter me
link below does not work
Sajid Hussain Hello, I'm not sure what could be happening but I just clicked and it worked for me. Maybe try again later
Brillent!
Oh wow are you a genius or what?
Reene Hendry Haha! thank you!
Can I ask for your help? Do you have any good links to how to write up a c2c graphghan? I want to do a storm trooper one for my husband but I can't work from a picture as I just can't keep track.
I want to figure out how many bobbins to prep x
Like and join me on my FB page Crochetverse and show me your setup or ask questions if you need help :)
Try stitchfiddle.com
you will want to select "embroidery version" . You will need to tell it the size you want.
Baby: 35 blocks wide
Twin: 49 blocks wide
Queen/Full: 70 blocks wide.
Using size H /5mm hook every 7th square is approx 6" depending on your tension. Hope this helps!
I meant they didn't have them. darn auto correct
I just now went to dollartree.com search the word "jumbo" and they should be the 1st thing that comes up!! I hope that helps!
+Crochetverse thank you, I'll try that 😊
+Trina Hatton sure!
What do you do with the wrong side?
