Thanks for the great trip to memory lane! I remember when I and my friend were 13 years old and played the hell out of the first game my friend slept by us and we talked the whole night about what the new chapter could be. We wander how cool it would be to get back to Rupture Farm factory building after it was shut down for years and reexplore it as a horror scenery, abandoned broken down with moldy machines spider webs on them. The intro could start with Abe or some her with a crowbar breaks the wooden planks off of the entrance of the factory and free up the way in. In our imagination the intro would shot from inside and you could see only silhuettes. Oh good old childhood!!!
You are more than welcome, it's fun for me to go on this journey as well! That sounds like a great idea for a game, to see the aftermath of the events in the game. It's surprising how little is shown as they strive to tell the next part of the story. Maybe one day we will get more and even revisit Rupture Farms
Man, I feel that paranoia of being awake and active during "quiet hours" and suddenly everything feels 10 times as loud. Doors creak like they've rusted. Your knee or toes find every edge with a thump that HAS to be too loud... but as a kiddo I wasn't aware of how distance affected things. I was on the lower level of a split level home, my parents' room was 2 staircases up and on the Other Side Of The House 😂
What if with this new Quintology they have it where Abe is the main and, like you said, add the others as side characters, but then after the main "Abe Game" they get their own?
My father had the original Xbox and for some reason had a copy of Oddworld Munch’s Oddysee. The main menu terrified me but watching the gameplay I was very engaged. When I got a bit older I managed to get past the main menu by myself and played through some of the game. I eventually found myself going down a rabbit hole of old documentaries on the series and sure enough I found myself playing oddworld new ‘n’ tasty on PlayStation, I later got it for Xbox and just kept replaying it. I’ve since also beaten Munch and Soulstorm. Someday I’ll try out strangers wrath too. This series has inspired me as an artist and writer and I attribute a lot of my own creativity to the characters and world of Oddworld. Thanks for sharing your history with the series I always love to see how people stumble upon and fall in love with the series. Hoping that they manage to translate Munch’s moveset to 2d because I think it fits the series best.
I just love the vibes of this series. The animation is so amazing and I loved it as a kid. Sadly I’ve never played any of the games but I’m planning on playing new and tasty and soulstorm since they’re both on psplus!
That is fantastic!! Exoddus is such an amazing game, I mean it has farts, what more could you want!!!???? You should give Soulstorm a try! It's very different from Exoddus but it has great ideas mixed with bad decisions like removing emotions (and farts) that the only way to know if it's good is to play it for yourself. Oh and Stranger is easily my second fav game in the series!
Thanks so much!! Oooooooo if I had to pick (and these are in no particular order) Rupture Farms (Oddysee) Paramite Run/Scrab Run (Exoddus) The Train (Soulstorm) Paramonia (Oddysee) Farmer Beeks Opple Farm (Stranger) What would be on your list? I couldn’t choice which of the run levels I liked more so I put both lol I cheated hahaha
First off, as an artist trying to get back to working on art, i understand how hard it can be to focus on your passions. Specially with a backlog. Second, i first learned of oddworld cause of Much's odyssey, the ad on TV made me want an X box for that game alone, such weird cool looking characters. Flash forward to 2020 and i'm working at walmart as an essential worker feeling beaten down, well i saw the oddworld games were on sale on the switch. I already had new and tastey on gog, but i learned it was coming out on the switch. so course i bought the Munch and Stranger's wrath. I haven't beaten any oddworld game, but i do own all of the main releases. I enjoy the charm the series has, and appreciate the commitment to making such a strange weird and totally awesome world.
Its even harder when life demands attention. To help with my backlog I make a list of games that I want to play this year and why they are there. I also have to account for playing things for my UA-cam channel but I'll never be able to make a review on new and relevant games as I'm just to small, don't have time and don't get review copies! That's awesome! Did it influence you in becoming an artist? Oddworld is such a remarkable place, and I love the gross art where things do not look clean and that the world is beaten down. One day you should give them a play so you can see and experience them but more importantly, to see the world come alive! Also I too collect games/series that I'm interested in that I'll play one day but haven't gotten around to it. I own all of the Trails games (like 10 of them) and I only just started playing the first one last year hahahaha it's going to take years to get through it all but that's alright, it's not a race.
@@Lytane No, oddworld didn't influence me in becoming an artist, i was gonna be one regardless, but Oddworld has inspired me to branch out, and not worry so much about sticking to the styles i gravitate towards. It gives me room to try out some weirder stuff. i'm actually half way through new n tastey, then im gonna play through soul storm. I love Munch's oddessy, but i know i'm saving stranger's wrath for last, cause from what little i played of it, its something special. But i know if i make a 2D game, Oddworld's influence will be felt. That much is sure.
oddworld inhabitants went silent once again! i wonder why lanning is waiting for funds? cant tell me that there's nobody willing to fund the develpment of the next oddworld installment/game! i wish for them to remaster exoddus or continue the quintology. a series would be awesome aswell, if its made by lorne lanning himself. its kinda sad that they always go "silent" after a release.
You are right. It’s been over a year since the enhanced edition came out and there’s been radio silence since. At least nothing major, maybe they are working on the next thing but want to be further in development before they announce anything
I mean it's looking pretty bad right now especially when the last official update was the switch version and some blog posts that happened over a year ago. I'm hopeful though!
I’m going to level with you; the Literal ONLY REASON why I played these games is because of Daddy Caddy! Who’s with me?! In case you don’t know who I am talking about, it’s Caddicarus! Also, bring back Caddy’s Retrospectives!
I love when someone's passion inspires others to try something and if Caddy got you into the series then that's fantastic because (for the most part) it's a great series!! I love Caddy, I've been watching him for years so I know who you are talking about, and in one of my other oddworld reviews I couldn't help but say the "The lovingly luscious Lorne Lanning" or whatever it was he said hahahaha And if I could brink back Caddy's retrospectives I would! Too bad I don't have that power
Still nothing that I’ve seen. The last word is that they are working on a project. If that’s a remake or sequel or an original game who knows but they have been dark for a long while
It is! I love how versatile the world is that even with a different protagonist and gameplay the Oddworld aspect shines through making it feel part of the world.
I adore Stranger and love how unique it is, I wish a few more games experimented like that or we got a Stranger 2. Maybe one day!! Munch had a great story but it was let down with the gameplay for me, not the worst game but deadlines and crunch made it not hit its potential
Which Oddworld game shaped your life the most and why?
New n Tasty was my first ever video game! And exoddus made my friend an oddworld fan..
Smile factrory
It's an oddworld fangame

This game had so atmosphere and the cut scenes were amazing in 1997. Miss those days playing this at a 11 year old ! Those were the days

I'd love to see Fangus Klot to be made. If we ever saw more stranger-type gameplay with a story as good as it I'd be satisfied.

I can fully understand why!! It's probably my second favourite after the original Abe's Oddysee. I just hope one day we will get a part 2!
