-29.9 vacuum, but there’s no micron reading. Analog ages would never find this during vacuum.

- While you’re pulling vacuum, your analog gages will go to 29.9 all the way to the end and you think everything is good
But because these are digital gauges, it could read past 29.9 down into the .0 decimal micron region
An area where it’s not possible for an analog gauge to read even the width of the needle is thousands of microns.
Dang, that's a good looking car. Those w111 Mercedes are getting hard find in good shape.
@@bobdoingbobthings i’m lucky I get to work for these guys who find all these perfect cars with extremely low mileage and beautiful condition.
I’m very fortunate to have a group of clientele that specialize in only high-end excellent condition cars and do complete restorations of these old Mercedes .
As Tom says, the moisture vapor coming out the vacuum pump is telling you there's an excess of moisture. In this case its moisture in the air being drawn into the ac system through the leaking part/joint. Same thing happens if you get one where the shaft seal lets by under vacuum.
Chief Tom, I would like to report. The Big Blu leak detector is so AWESOME !!!!!!. I did not use on HVAC but was using it to find fitting air leak.
This liquid can stay at vertical location, won't dry so fast and when I thought it dried up, it actually stay go-eey and works like magic for super micro bubble. This is the next best thing to water submersion of leaking vessel/fitting test.
There is a saying in my country : Eat well sleep well, when using good parts/tools. Thank you for showing me Big Blue. Bow bow bow.
@@suryaprihadi2258 everybody is always skeptical and say I do the same thing with soap 🧼 and water. 💦
But now you have experienced the difference of a product that is not soap and water.
@@coldfinger459sub0 soap n water if i give a scale, it is 3. Big blue the perfect 10. I hope big blue is also having a good wind resistance... if so, WOW.. it will be even better
The ultrasonic leak detector hears the vacuum leak? Can you explain how that test works? Thanks!
@@advancedleveldiagnostics very small leaks, produce a ultrasonic frequency sound that the human ear cannot hear.
So basically, it’s like a super sensitive microphone that is tuned in to higher frequencies that pressure leaks, or vacuum leaks produce .
And then change the frequency inside the unit to something the human ear can hear
@@coldfinger459sub0 Thanks so much! I'm learning a lot from your channel. I just ordered the fieldpiece Sm480v.
you're supposed to valve it off and leave it, and if you don't still have the same vacuum you have a leak.
@@badatcad yes you should velvet off, but there’s those guys who don’t and waste their time and figure as long as their needle hits 29. They’re doing good..
Then there’s those leaks that are so slow at 29.9 . Only the micron level will show the slow leak never getting down below 29
Just a very slow, gradual loss of vacuum in the micron range that will never show on an analog gauge .
Very few people leave their gauges under vacuum over a half hour or an hour
The micron gauge can show the leak in minutes that will take well over an hour before it starts to show on an analog gauge
Micron gauge can also show high moisture contamination analog gauge can never show that
05 F150 34,000 miles, AC compressor manifold cracked suddenly at the compressor and blew out the entire charge including of course spraying Pag46 all over the frame...it happened during 70 mph driving with the AC on max.
The high pressure discharge metal pipe broke at the square base that bolts onto the top of the compressor..
38 oz R134a
7.5 oz of Pag 46
How in the world does one know how much new oil to add back?
No time to blow everything out with dry nitrogen or disassemble and drain each component..
If you had to do an educated guess on how much Pag 46 is left in the system...of course I know no one has any way to say for sure, but just a guess?
Also I'm assuming it's best to have a little too much oil vs not enough?
Thank you..
@@freddyhollingsworth5945 if I were to guess throw 4 ounces in there and call it a day.
its not just the old guys say 29.9 .i have watched some residential vacuum pulls on a dry system for their test to show us and in 10 ,15 mins they get aprx 200 micron. so im now testing and old tank to simulate this and i can get 150 in aprx 15 min no problem. now i put some pag oil in tank and just a few drops of water in it. let u no my results soon. i think thats why auto guys think 20,30,45 minutes they think its dry, so if i replaced everything in the ac system on a car and then pulled a vacuum i believe it could be true. but on a repair and system left open it will never happen ,i already no that with my test.
@@RATCHETMAN1001 yes yes and yes, you are 100% correct
How does the whisper compare to the accutrak? I bought a whisper maybe around 10 weeks ago and been quite impressed with it. Ditched the headphones for better ones though.
@@rossclarke8028 I like both
Are the ultra sonics good for evap leak diagnostics also? I.e pointing into the vents?
@@Jeff-gb5rt usually not unless leak is absolutely huge gigantic.
Ultrasonic frequencies get blocked by anything in front of them so they’re not good at going around corners or going through objects .
Evaporator leaks you need extremely very highly accurate and rather expensive refrigerant leaked detector .
Tom, Question about vacuum pump ballast valve. When should it be OPENED and for how long? Is there any problem created by not opening the ballast bleed valve during vacuuming of the system? Thanks
@@AAB371 open it up at the very beginning and when you get down to around 2000 icons, you can close it
It makes for easier start up of the vacuum pump
It helps aerate your oil to help chase the moisture out
do you like that one more then accutrak leak detector?
@@MrBiron1 I do not know yet. I am still on the side. They both work very good.
So, if you have analog gauges, could you look for steam coming out of the top of the vacuum pump as a tel-tale sign that there is a vacuum leak somewhere?
@@who_wantsit no not I’m extremely extremely small leaks.
Only a micron gage will tell you .
