FYI: The correct name for one of the typewriters is OLIVETTI, not Oliver. I learned in high school typing class in 1959 (Class of ‘62). Our classroom had those 3 brands of typewriters, Olivetti, Remington, & Underwood, They we’re NOT electric!!! Your video brought back nice memories. Thank you.
My grandmother lived through the Depression and she and my grandfather had a saying apropos to the time ( and great advice today too). “Use it up/ Wrar it out/ Make it do/ Or do without!”
My late grandmother saved everything passed down to her from family. She had collections of quilts, glass, photos, furniture etc. At auction a set of very old paper boxes sold for a small mint. I would never have guessed. Likely she knew…or maybe she didn’t?
Always enjoy your info..Very helpful! Just sold my 1980s Corona portable typewriter in working condition with the ribbon in for $40. The only comment make by buyer was it needed to be cleaned.
Your comment about the no dumpsters was amazing I literally almost cry when I see people throw things away that are collectible or usable. I have even offered to put things in my yard with a free sign ot a reseller yet a
When I was in the business some 10+ years ago, you couldn’t GIVE the sewing machines away. I like the esthetic, but people weren’t buying them. Same thing with old manual typewriters. I thought they would fly out of the shop, but they didn’t bring anything. Cameras only sold to specialists and only the rare ones. Oddly, what did sell was buttons. We bought a button lady’s collection and made a bunch of money selling them in various ways.
I had my grandmas old 1890’s singer sewing machine in perfect working order, but I didn’t really have a good place to keep it so it was in my sons room. I had it covered with a lamp on top. Well, my son, being a tiny engineer scientist curious guy at two years old, took the belt off while we were sleeping and I’ve never figured out how to put it back together. My husband may have even lost the parts by now.
Have to have a smile and a laugh at your dog in the background! All stretched out with heard on the couch arm! :) I enjoy these info videos that Mike does.
I'm 65, so I only learned about wood inlays on typewriters, and that film is still made for those old cameras????? I thought cameras would be shelf sitters. I crawled into dumpster at a country auction for a amber canning jar! Still have it, sits w/ fake cattails next to my lrg wooden geese.
I restore cast iron in Texas and there was two huge companies missing from your list. Birmingham Stove And Range is one of the best brand ever made. BSRs Red Mountain Series is on the same level as Griswold and Wagner. Martin Stove and Range are what some call the "Griswold of the South". The hamburger logo Martin's are super collectible.
I picked up an old singer machine a few wks ago. You've given me incentive to go do research on model, etc. plug it in and see if it works. I don't think I would try to ship it, but the parts may have value too. Thx.
Very interesting video and the thing is I've had everyone of these things at once point but still have cast iron skillets and some pyrex but I sure will be on the look out. Thank you
Most of the time you can just check E-Bay for what the same item is selling for . You do need to check for " sold listings " , not just what someone is asking .
I have my mother's keystone camera with case and leather bag. The stitching has rotted out but i have all the pieces. Where can i find out what it's worth? I'll see if your website can tell me anything
my choice has always been maintaining versatile vintage such as cast iron to dry, grinding and storage, as well as cooking, ... they don't make these as good as they used to...sad ....
Why does he never say prices. Also their are idiots on eBay who offer a spice o life 5 quart casserole dish for $10,000 which is beyond stupid. I use my Corning almost everyday and I have never paid more than $30 for the big 5 quart. I only buy the cornflower blue or the spice o life pattern ( not exactly sure if that's the name because on the pieces it says; L'Echalote; La Marjolaine and Le Romarin ) I bake, microwave and reheat in them constantly. I even have my daughter using them. I think the microwave gave them a new life. So easy to use and clean. Only negative is their weight but that is also a big problem with cast iron. Lol
I don't suppose you ever get down to West Texas or know someone in this area that might be interested? I have 3 singer sewing machines but only selling one. It is a very old one. It doesn't have a foot peddle it is electric and in a desk-type cabinet. Very good condition. I also have a very old typewriter that is in a hard case like the one that was on this show. I haven't been able to open it yet but I will. I have a few other things and I can't take the time or energy to find a buyer. Will explain if you contact me. Thx Lori T.
@@66uniqueantiques This is very true. Most United States stamps issued after 1930 are common and are worth face value or less. The most likely US stamps to have value are from the 19th and early twentieth centuries, and some of them are still common. I make mention of stamps as many that have real value have been thrown away and discarded by those who don’t know any better. Also, old letters could be valuable for the historical information that they contain. I just found one, about a week ago, written April 21,1865 and sent from Philadelphia, which conveyed the mood of the country following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Several postal cards I have, sent from Canada in 1901, tell of a rescue of a crew of a steamship, which sank during a storm on Lake Superior, which the writer had helped with.
I wrote a book using old postcards to tell the story of my town and also deciphering what folks wrote on the back. RPPCs are the most sought after - real photo postcards. There are lots of postcard collectors and many good online resources to help you. Most cards only bring a few dollars but several times I have given $100 to $200 for a single rare rppc. Research what cards you have - you may be surprised.
Some old singers are worth thousands but millions of old singers are worth less than 50 bucks. People think because it saws singer, no matter the model, think it's worth a mint.
@@66uniqueantiques I do however pretty much agree with your list. I am not however an expert. I would add glass to the list. I don't know anything about glass but several years ago my now ex wifes grandma had an estate auction. She to had cabinets full of glass. The glass was all selling in the $3,$4,& $5 range. Then about in the middle of selling off the glass about a dozen people showed up & a glass bowl hit $900. Not even the auctioneer knew what it was worth. Then as soon as it sold those people left & all the rest of the glass sold as it had been. It pays to know your stuff.

Omg ur bloodhound??! Sleeping on that couch......how cute!!!!

I use a brillo pad on rusted cast iron.
This is the reason I find so many treasures at thrift stores ! 😍😍😍
Yup! 🙂
It's also why so many e-bay resellers buy from thrift stores .

Prices are subjective due to the area you are in
Is the value of Pyrex brand-specific, or do similar items have value as well?
Brand specific on the Pyrex other similar brands are less valuable

How do we know if it comes with a lid?
What do you mean?
@66uniqueantiques How to we know if a Pyrex came with a lid?. I see a lot in my own area without.
Most to all had a lid with it
Another thing that can have value, to watch out for, is stamps: on or off envelopes; used or unused; from the United States or foreign countries.
They definitely have value but most are only worth the price on the stamp. It is a tough market but definitely one worth monitoring
