- Today we introduce our friends and family to Korean TV!
Over the last year in pandemic we've been watching more TV than ever, and so before people run out of things to watch we thought it was the perfect opportunity to set up some cameras safely in people's homes and introduce them to a whole new world of comedy... starting with my favourite Korean Variety show.
Over the years we've always introduced Korean culture through food, my personal favourite way to experience a new culture! But while Korean cuisine is incredibly diverse and there's plenty of things that we haven't even been able to cover in the last 8 years - there's also many other aspects of Korean culture that I love!
One of those has always been Korean TV, and one of the easiest shows to enjoy even without knowing Korean is Running Man, a legendary comedy show that I'm super excited to finally be able to introduce to people here in the UK!
Everyone in this video including the crew had a negative COVID-19 test prior to shooting.
All activities were fully risk assessed and monitored in accordance with UK government guidelines.

오늘은 저희 친구들과 가족들에게 한국 방송을 처음으로 소개해봤어요! 지난 한 해동안 팬데믹때문에 모두가 어느때보다 TV를 많이 봤는데, 슬슬 볼 게 없어지고 있는 지금이야말로 코미디의 신세계로 초대하기에 완벽한 타이밍이라고 생각했답니다! 안전하게 각자의 집에서, 제일 먼저 제 최애 예능 프로그램들을 보여주기로 했어요.
지난 몇 년간 저희는 제가 가장 좋아하는 방식인, 음식을 통해서 한국 문화를 소개해왔어요! 한국 음식이 워낙 엄청나게 다양하다보니 8년의 시간에도 불구하고 아직 모두 다루지 못했지만, 음식 말고도 제가 사랑하는 한국 문화가 많거든요!
그 중 하나가 한국의 방송프로그램이고, 한국어를 몰라도 재미있는 한국 예능하면 역시 런닝맨이죠!! 이 전설적인 예능 프로그램을 드디어 영국에 소개하게 되어서 정말 설레고 기대됩니다!!
오늘 영상에 나오는 무한도전 방송분은 SBS에서 저작권을 구입해 사용했습니다.

I've been watching Running Man since 2012 and it's really amusing to see other people react greatly to the show. You will not regret watching this show!
My fave eps were the Superpower episodes, the versus PD episodes, when they made boats and went across the Han River, and the Avengers episode!

Absolutely right!, the episodes upto ~ 300, which contained the normal citizens involved were more exciting ever.

The thing I appreciate the most about Running Man is that the primary focus of the players is to entertain the viewer rather than just purely winning the game. They will often find interesting ways to mess up just because messing up is funnier than succeeding. They'll have quiz competitions, and coming up with the most absurdly incorrect answer is more entertaining that just watching people give correct answers. It's why Kwang Soo did the little neck chop thing; watching Jung Kook just drink a bottle of water isn't as entertaining as seeing Kwang Soo's back-stabber character manifest itself.
In comparison, there are lots of competition reality shows in the USA, going back to the things like Road Rules and The Challenge on MTV. In these shows, the cast are hyper-competitive, with winning being far more important than being interesting.
I'd far rather watch a fun show like Running Man than see a bunch of wannabe athletes strutting around on The Challenge.
Have you tried watching Running Man China? I don't know if its just me, but seems like the casts for RM China are just too focus on winning the game and get too serious (on top of having too much product placement), thus not being that entertaining. It just has a different vibe than the original Running man.
That's why sometimes Jae Suk nagging/telling to Jong Kook can you chill out a bit for certain games..
Totally agree! Shows the the Great Race can be really entertaining but they can also make me stressed out because of the high stakes and disappointment. I'd love to have a show like Running Man in the US.
Yoo Jae Suk, Kwang Soo and Suk Jin are well known for always messing up the games in order to entertain viewers.. While Jong Kuk and Ji Ho more serious to win the games.. Nevertheless, each one of them has their own character that makes RM unique and interesting to watch compared to other shows. . (Sorry for my english)

It's funny, but my neighbours and I played a similar game when I was growing up. We lived on the highest point of the Lake, so to go from the street to the Lake, you had to go down lots of stairs or terraces. The goal was to get from the street to the tree below, the "free spot". We would play across 3 or 4 backyards/gardens and all the terraces and stairs, garage rooftops, alleys, trees, overturned rowboats, et cetera. It was a pretty intense game, and we're lucky no one ever got hurt

Have watched Running Man since the beginning. If you are interested in the name tag games, the best ones are during the first 5 years or so. The members were younger and more intense. The originality of the themes of those name tag games were fun, comedic, intense, and exciting.
As they aged, the intensity decreased for health reasons and some of the themes became less unique. It was to be expected, but still was fun and filled with laughter in the middle and later years, and to this very day, as the show is still running.
You grow with the show and its cast. Best Korean Variety show, in my opinion.
What do you mean by themes? Could you give examples of good one and bad ones?

The first time they flew into Vietnam and literally the entire airport was filled from top to bottom with fans shouting "LEE KWANGSOO, LEE KWANGSOO!" I thought wow, this whole Asia Prince thing might be a bit bigger than I thought
As someone who's been watching Running Man from the 1st episode and is so used to the games, it's great to see other people be this excited. There are countless episodes that you'll laugh your heart out, some sad, some inspiring, etc. One thing is for sure, every episode is exciting.

Meaning that they don't have any emotional attachment to anything they are saying or endorsing. That's kinda scary when you think about it.

As I cry and prep myself for LKS's last episode this weekend, it's kind of healing to see new people find RM, enjoying and supporting the show.

Nah, China's version of Running Man almost always has a Chinese pop singer/kpop idol in their main cast and occasionally invites some more as special guests. For example, before there was Luhan, and now Lucas and this other dude, I don't remember his name. I suspect it's just because one, idols are just way too busy. 2, now that kpop is more main stream, it might be dangerous for these people, specially cause a lot of the activities are outside. 3, sometimes the activities are very physically strenuous, there have been participants that were injured when they overexerted or just simply did something wrong by accident. Companies generally send idols to these shows to promote, and if they have to dance like the day after they film the show, companies can't afford any possibility of them injuring themselves or even tiring their bodies
What's fun in this reaction video is that they're reacting to it in a very comfortable way which is the best thing to enjoy watching Running Man.

Oh my gosh, I love that the acapella clip was included! That was one of the funniest moments in (relatively) recent Running Man episodes. It cracks me up SO much every time I watch it

I think the army guy would "avenge" his Brother if there's another element like name tag elimination, and both of them would be like gazelles in savanna (literally the same comparison in running man (it's featured first in Episode 21, with each cast members given a respective "animal" persona with the tallest guy, Lee Kwang Soo being the giraffe and the "Mr.capable" ,Kim jong kook, the tiger) )
Sadly, they don't play as much nametag nowadays, and with COVID even lesser.

One thing I enjoyed about watching Running Man is that every episode is something to look forward to, like you don't know what to expect, or what will the casts will play or do. Some are really scary af, some are so good. You're always on the edge of your seat and also, the casts showcases comedic, heartwarming, sentimental, and victorious antics, some has teamwork and betrayal at the same time, so Running Man really has you covered in just one show.
My all time favorite episodes are the 300th episode special, the two part special they did, the X-Man (an old variety show where some of the cast members of RM are there, too) collaboration, and the Girls' Generation 2-part episode, the couple race. But honestly there are a lot of good episodes so really... Big respect to the cast members, and all production crew. They're worth the standing ovation tbh.

Me on the next day: **watch 10 more episode and have hundred more in line**
Seriously it only took 1 eps to fall in love with Running Man. I even got stomach cramps because laughing so hard.

True, I watched the 1st ep when it's first out and been following it ever since, this show made my week brighter and I always anticipated new week to come just so I can watch new eps 😭
When the kid said that nametag ripping should be in the Olympics, I've thought about that ever since I got into watching Running Man more than a decade ago.

Rewatching this clip because it’s what got me into Runningman. I saw this clip and got a subscription to an Asian online tv thing and subsequently have watched over 300 episodes. Runningman is comfort food now. Thanks so much for being a K culture ambassador and introducing me to Runningman 🤗

RunningMan the only K Variety show that has world tour concert or fan-meet, has adaption into cartoon and broadcast in Cartoon Network channel and also comics. Lastly the only K variety that broadcast in local TV channel at least in my country. Thank you for this content.

I've been watching Running Man religiously for about 7 years now, completely caught up with all the episodes (no regrets for spending far too many hours of my life trying to catch up with 4 years worth of episodes before I was finally able to watch it week by week). It's one of my favourite shows of all time, and I keep trying to tell others to give it a try because it always guarantees a laugh!
I bingewatched ep 1-70ish for about 2 weeks before I watched it on weekly basis, and also didn't regret that.
For me episodes below 100 have special place on my heart, that's what introduced me to korean cultures, landmarks, cuisines, artists etc, and the games were very funny bcos k-varshow was something new for me, like whole another world. Ahh, good old days..

@@damblebee1253 I think I took a couple of months to get through all the episodes I had yet to catch up with. Was just bingewatching several a day when I had free time from uni, haha. The early episodes were so good, and like you they've got a special place in my heart as well. The first Variety Show I ever watched was Family Outing because of Daesung, and once that was finished and I'd started to love all the folks in the show, I found out Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Jong Kook were in this other one so gave it a go....and down the rabbit hole I fell haha. You know, it's actually because of their name-tags on the show that I was able to learn the Korean alphabet without even meaning to. So not only is the show a brilliant watch and great for introducing folk to the culture, it's highly educational in other ways as well! Haha.

This is so endearing for me! Used to watch a lot of them as a kid with my parents and I would always get so excited during the name tag game and watching you guys get excited about it too was like looking in a mirror of my past self! Thanks for the reminder to watch the show again!
the one who retired is Lee Kwang-soo, he has been injured before too many times and there was an accident last year he hasn't fully recovered yet
I just laughed when Chris said he and Charles would get way too into this, because that last game really would be right up Charles' alley. Plus he'd probably run circles around everybody else with just how physically fitter and stronger he is compared to average citizens. I watch Korean Englishman's Army training video repeatedly just because Charles is so just freaking good at that.
Don't know how many times I went here to watch their reactions. I hope that you would do a part 2 😊

Running Man is oddly so interesting, especially when they play the nametag game. And I swear the level of intensity really boils when they have guests that are as built as JK. Those are some of the best episodes in my opinion

@@nickraoyj oh, being in ‘someone’s line’ means… you’re on their side? Crew? A follower, perhaps, as in standing behind in line of a leader, in this case Yoo Jae-seok. It’s a old (nationally) standing joke considering the (hypothetical?) rivalry between YJS and Kang Ho-dong, on whose the “best MC in Korea”; and celebrities pick sides on whose ‘line’ they’re in, Yoo line or Kang line.
