I think one of the big factors forming the Two Face personality was Harvey Dent's sense of being weak. Throughout the entire first 2 epsiodes, he feels HELPLESS. He feels he needs Bruce's money and connections to get him to achieve anything, he is too shy to make a move on Selina, he is helpless with the Children of Arkham kidnapping and the trauma. Two-Face is what a sick, insecure man mistakens for strength
Weirdly enough, I feel like his transformation into Two-Face feels more natural if he doesn’t get half his face burnt. He doesn’t just suddenly have a split personality, it’s his paranoia and distrust that represses Harvey and brings out Two-Face.
In most canon Harvey always had the second personality and it was the result of an abusive childhood. The other Harvey was made to protect himself from others. It only comes out in high stress situations. Harvey does his best to hide this mental disability but after his burn the mental stress was too much. The other personality drove him down a path of vengeance that branded him a criminal which given how stress is the trigger obviously doesn’t help things. Theirs also the less acknowledged issue of his extreme OCD. He’s obsessed with the number two and refuses to function without his coin. Theirs two instances that show how bad this overlooked part of him is. Batman switched Two Faces coin with a trick coin that only ever lands on one side. This throws him into a panic attack because he can’t make a decision without his coin and theirs no second option with this one. He panics so hard he fumbles the coin and it rolls off the building and Two Face chases after it only being caught by Batman. Batman has to convince him to pull himself back up because that coin is not worth his life and it was a genuine struggle to convince him.
People get it all wrong. Harvey’s problem is no DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) or the old ‘Multiple Personality Disorder’ name. In DID, one personality doesn’t remember what the other did, and there’s a void in memory. Harvey has BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), caused by childhood trauma when he started to hide his anger.. in BPD, there’s a thing called ‘splitting’ or black and white thinking, there are two personas, not personalities, and each one shares the other’s memories, meaning, they remember everything when the split.
When I say DiD I refer to tv version of DiD more than actual real DiD. Still I can see either DiD or bpd tbh. Same with this version of joker on another vid I did.
He definitely has a case of DID: Alter comes out because of a traumatic experience, "Two-Face" acts as a protective alter that is meant to defend Harvey from being hurt and they often end up co-fronting (a case where more than one personality is in control of the host). John Doe is a better example of BPD: Anti-social, lots of unstable mood swings, impulsiveness, and difficulty maintaining relationships with others.
@@bananatiergod he has a fascinating cocktail of mental problems theirs little doubt he does have DID his more violent personality comes out in moments of high stress and his dissent into criminal activity due to it would absolutely exasperate the problem. However he’s also has OCD because of his obsession with the number 2 and his inability to function without his coin. In one story having a panic attack when he finds out his coin was switched with a fake trick coin that only lands on one side. Theirs no option 2 with that coin and he refuses to make a choice without a coin flip, he also nearly falls to his death when he tries to go after his coin that fell off a building. Batman legit had to talk him off the edge and convince him the coin wasn’t worth his life.
Very minor nitpick but, the coin is doubles headed. One side is scratched to represent Big Bad Harv, and that means kill. If it lands on Big Bad Harv's side, Two-Face does something evil, if it lands on Harvey Dent's side, he does something good.
I always wondered why he had so many of his campaign posters in his office until I realized he probably did it as a way to remember what he was like before getting half of his face burnt, almost like he's torturing himself over the fact he'll never have his optimism and/or good looks again. That's equal levels of haunting and heartbreaking.
This is still one of the weaker Two-Faces. He lacks the abuse during childhood that really puts his transformation into Two-Face in perspective. This Two-Face just flakes under pressure given that even if you save Harvey, he still becomes Two-Face. Plus, while that light fixture would disfigure him, it wouldn't leave him with _that_ as the result. With parts of his brain exposed, he really shouldn't be lasting that long in the open.
He also still becomes two face because (lol) telltale being telltale your choices don't matter. But yeah, I get what you mean. I find the sheer damage to his face to be ridiculously overdone.
Kinda but I did the Harvey one without his face scarred and I think it showed their friendship better tbh. I'm noticing people see this one more than the other one.
Ok, I know I'm late here, but there's something you missed at 16:10. You said that Harvey spared Debra even though the coin showed heads up. However, that side wasn't scratched up. Two-Face uses a coin with 2 heads instead of a normal one. How Two-Face makes decisions here is that one side is burnt or scratched up(the evil side) while the other side is left untouched(the good side). The coin is more so a reflection of Two-Face, one side is normal, the other side is ruined, one is good and the other is bad.
I never turned my back on Harvey in the game when he said he had to distance himself from me he did the right thing by letting me know and he genuinely didn't want to so I kept supporting him
Something else I noticed is how this Harvey seems to remember his actions as two face but in the new long Halloween movie we never see Harvey dent after his face injury it’s like to face blocked him out of his own mind which is really scary to think about
If Harvey’s problem is DID, how come he remembers what he did as Two Face, and sometimes is filled with regret and shame. If it was DID, he wouldn’t feel that, since he wasn’t responsible for the others actions. What happens to Harvey is the opposite.. he is fully aware of his actions as Two Face, but his triggers through repressed anger and being bullied make it almost impossible for Harvey to avoid splitting
@@BAEHELPJAYDO Hi @MGM.. thanks for your feedback. What do you think his problem is? Do you agree with the at least 5 behaviours that would put him under Borderline Disorder? Described below: -Intense mood swings, with each episode lasting from a few hours to a few days. -Distorted and unstable self-image or sense of self -Tendency to view things in extremes, such as all good or all bad. Black and white thinking, no gray area. Going from reasonable and even forgiving, to cruel and vengeful (through triggers) -Opinions of other people can change quickly, leading to intense and unstable relationships -And last : A pattern of intense and unstable relationships, vacillating from extreme closeness and love (idealization) to extreme dislike or anger (devaluation) - This happened in some occasions in his relationship with his friend B. Wayne. Outburst of rage, out of the blue. Also, when he splits to persona 2, he attacks his friend, only to apologize later and say he doesn’t know what’s happening to him.
@@BAEHELPJAYDO I would agree with you in a sense that this also describes Harvey’s abrupt switches. The problem is that many specific Personality Disorders show comorbidity with others, which it makes tricky to be have a certain diagnosis.
Well, DID is controversial for a reason, so there's that. If anything, Havey's problem is (usually) some type of bipolar disorder that had gone untreated and repressed.
Could you do a video on John doe and his transition into joker and his breakdown? I think that to face comes across as a protector standing up for Harvey where he can't because he is viewed as weak by two face
I’ve felt this anger as well. The feeling that you want to fight everyone in the room you’re in or destroy everything. It’s something I’ve felt since I was a kid and I’ve always repressed it. When it does come out I do it in a very safe way like punching a pillow or throwing something weak like an empty water bottle. I’m worried if Two-Face is a representation of real life then I’ll have a moment where my anger makes me do something that’ll change my life and the relationships around me for the worse.
To terminate Debrah Bruce must say "you are weak, letting a coin decide" pick that choice and Debrah is gone Also your speed of choosing is determined of which side the coin will do
In episode 3 the whole attacking Bruce after flipping the coin does that only happen if you pick the quote willing to fight or is the coin flip just random?
