Angel Hernandez being allowed to be an Umpire for as long as he was is the exact reason I will not be upset when the Robo Umpire comes. The Umpires Union and the Umpires themselves have brought this on themselves because they refused to hold terrible Umpires like Angel Hernandez accountable for all their bad calls.

Even in real time it was obvious to everyone except Angel, who ruled it was a double. Oakland challenged, saying it was a home run. This was one of the earlier years of instant replay where the crew reviews their own calls. Even with the benefit of slow-mo instant replay, Angel ruled double again and Oakland went insane. It was after this MLB changed the replay rule where the MLB in New York reviews the challenged calls.

There were some that were correct. Part of the problem is the inaccurate Graphic box plus showing where the pitch was caught, not where it was when it crossed the plate.

Back in '22, Ohtani threw a middle-middle curve ball and Angel called a ball on that. There was at least one or two more bad call(s) during that inning against Ohtani, IIRC. The batter subsequently drove in a run and the next batter drove in another with Ohtani apparently flustered from the whole ordeal and ruined Ohtani's consecutive scoreless innings streak and cost him a win on the mound and in the final score. The whole world's glad you're gone, Angel.
Why would MLB not resolve a situation where every team in the league knows that there is something wrong. It undermines every other umpire in the big leagues!

8, the check swing call on Harper was either a case of he wasn’t paying attention or he wanted to “get” Harper. Additionally I think any other umpire down there and the catcher doesn’t appeal. But he thinks to himself “Hey it’s Angel and it’s worth a shot.”

As someone from across the pond I find it hard to believe he was still in charge of games until recently and only stopped because he retired, how he got away with this for so long is hard to understand. Hernandez was the topic of conversation in the local pub so much so he has harmed the games reputation overhere.
In Angel’s defence, maybe he has an unknown/undiagnosed vision problem that distorts what he sees - particularly for objects in motion. I know from experience that it is possible although I would assume that MLB does have some objective and ongoing testing regime for umpires.

Missed the White Sox game where he called a runner out at 1st base on a double play. Runner was safe by a mile and the run wouldve scored to end the game.
I am going to presume that #1 was a call that the batter did not make an effort to get out of the way of the pitch; which he did not. So, in the top 10 worst Angel Hernandez calls #1 is one he got right.
I have to agree. Even as a little league ump, I knew that there had to be an effort to get out of the way of the ball in order to be awarded first base. To my untrained eye, the batter did not.
