Fun Fact: Every time Blue Eyes has either been summoned or tried to attack in this series, it gets negated and sent to the grave almost IMMEDIATLY 😂
There's a reason 2 tributes weren't played much even back in the day.
Oh neat my favorite dnd skit creator likes these guys too c3
Yup sums like early yugioh meta
Cards like Blue-Eyes White Dragon practically exist to get killed by big removal cards, so that the fodder can finish the fight; of course, you'd think it would be the opposite, and you would hope as much as the players, but it rarely seems to work out that way.
They're keeping the dragon dead so the bard can't get to it
I'm thankful that Pot of Greed gets explained every time it's played. The effect is so complex that I tend to forget unless it's explained to me.
What does pot of greed do again??
Man yugioh is so complicated, how are new players meant to understand this card?
@@jamesmiranda1449
Smiles Softly.
I think it got banned for that reason. No one knew what it did so each time it was played in a tournament it caused a lot of troubles to the judges.
you just draw two random cards and thats just the most broken and unpredictable thing possible in yugioh..wonderful game tho
I love how as soon as Paul reveals his Pot of Greed you just see Alec shaking his head, already mentally preparing for the explanation of how this complex card works 🤣
Fun fact: Pot of greed lets you draw two cards
In my Opinion this has to be one of the best on going series you guys ever did. Hopefully you guys get enough likes / views to make up for the cost of these cards. Cant wait for the next episode. Team APS is killing it lately!
This is honestly one of my favorite series you guys do, up there with Larry in the Hole. I am happy to support what I can to see more awesome games. Have you guys considered a scaled system for the winner? Like if someone wins multiple times in a row, they gotta wager an additional card for every win over. So that way if someone won twice in a row, next time they wager their rare card as well as a previous rare one. Their choice, but helps the loser potentially gain some power if they win. Keep it up, guys!
Post watching: You know, I almost feel bad how hard Alec kept getting countered this game. Like it was so funny, every time he played something cool I was like "Paul is about to end this man's career", and he did! This was probably the best duel to date.
It's so much fun 😁
Damnn Paul had almost a counter everytime Alec tried to do something i think he stole Yugi's puzzle. Regardless amazing duel
Yep! It was so close and intense, and had funny parts, this was my favorite episode of this series so far.
Paul: “I wouldn’t wager this card (Destiny Board) since the opponent couldn’t use it.”
To be fair, that is exactly what Mako did to Joey by giving him a Ritual Monster without giving him the corresponding Ritual Spell card. 😂
and what Alec did with toon blue eyes
Mako the first YGO troll.
He doesn't need to have that spell ,he can just randomly get it out of his deck like he did with black skull dragon
@@lightfury6637 That was with the rulings of Duelist Kingdom, though. Same for Kaiba and Ultimate Dragon.
when did mako give joey a ritual monster ?
Alec's energy in these duels is so much fun. Also, new favourite line in this series: "you know what's cool about that? TRAP HOLE!"
This was the craziest duel yet! Paul's back row was putting in absolute WORK! Can't wait for next duel!
Skull Lair's first wording was absolutely overpowered. They changed it in later printings from cards to monsters.
Wasn't bazoo the soul eater and kycoo the same wording as skull lair originally? They used to be any card
I justed looked it up like ain't no way this is still legal and I found they indeed change it. Still a cool effect tho.
This is because in the OCG, the card stated 'Monsters', but the TCG dropped the ball and put 'cards' when bringing it over.
@@scrubomega4679 yep. Bazoo was straight-up bah-roken until the errata, and then he just vanished afterwards.
@@blackgod5457 hahaha why would it not be legal in 2022?
*NEW RARE HUNTERS EPISODE HYPE!* 🙌🏾 Next time, we'll be taking you guys' suggestion and using a rare classic reprint set. It was VERY difficult (and expensive) to get our hands on, but it should help power up and balance both of our decks! Feel free to leave any more feedback or suggestions here, too!

I think the loser should get some small consolation, like maybe the choice of any Rare or something from the set? Also, Alec is cheating already at 9:00 by going full Rare hunter cosplay
I think it would be cool if you guys could trade cards with one another as long as it's beneficial to both parties.
I think I got a way to fix something. how about this: If u cant pull a usable rare card from the current set, u can wager a rare card from a previous set. That way its crucial for that person to win that duel & the sakes for them would be a bit higher. Plus it would mean that no cards would b safe lol.
This video was great, I like that you changed up who pulls first
this is a hell of series, keep it up!
Genuinely the best series on this channel I think. Always so hyped to see the packs & the pulls, always great to see which cards are going to change hands. It's awesome & I'm here for it every new upload. Thank you Team APS for the delightful entertainment.
The hoodies had me dying before the duel 😂 Paul looking like sweetest hunter ever and Alec looking like he’s ready to steal everyone’s cards 💀😭🤣
That's why Alec lost😂 The real Villain always loses XD
😂 couldn't even see anything in front of him
Just wanted to point out a few things one old-school duelist to some new-school ones. Skull Lair was misprinted in its original set due to a translation error. It got errata text in subsequent prints stating that the player can banish any number of MONSTER CARDS in order to activate its effect as was initially intended. Furthermore, Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer has a continuous effect that prevents the opponent from banishing cards from either graveyard, thus shutting Skull Lair down completely despite the errata. I doubt these things would've changed the outcome of this duel, but it's something to think about for the next.
I was looking for this. 👍 i agree, this battle didn’t get affected significantly, maybe if Paul chose to destroy Blue-Eyes with Skull Lair.
It would have given alec one more turn at least so he could have done something. Shadow ghoul was apprently at 3500 atk and since he did not banished any monster to destroy sky scout. if he did it would be barerly over blue-eyes by just 100 atk. So that one card Alec could draw could have change the duel maybe.
You guys are awesome. I love this series. Haven’t missed an episode yet.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate it! Many more episodes to come! ❤
I look toward to this series every week, this one’s gunna be a good one!
It definitely was!
HELL YEAH, YOUR GUYS'S BEST SERIES. Pumped to see who loses their RAREST CARD.
Nah
@@beanpuf9192 y u mean
Another Rare Hunters is in the bag! What twists should we add to really shake things up?
As the decks get more powerful, especially with the reprint packs coming soon, I think introducing best of 3 is a good idea
any chance of you two trading with the card collections you've pulled so far? I wanna see someone mainline destiny board :P
I can't think of anything. These games have already been awesome
Either allowing trades or having rematches where you guys bet on rare cards from previous videos, like Summoned Skull vs Jinzo.
Hey he won the waifu but you had the Sith level drip with that hood pulled up so far we could only see your evil smile...and you couldn't see nothing but it was worth it to look epic! As for a twist? I mean you could re-create some of the Rare Hunter's most iconic moments I want to say but so many of the cards you need are in Duel Links more than the TCG ^^;; One of the suckiest things about being a fan was watching some villain or hero create this epic combo or use a col monster in the anime and going to buy packs only to find out there was no such card. Used to confuse my young mind so bad! XD
The updated errata on ''Skull Lair'' says you need to banish monster cards but cool to see they are playing the game like in 2003!
Alec's luck here was insane. I knew Paul, if he wanted decent pulls should've gone for the left instead of sticking to the right. Two packs a secret & a great ultra, wow.
Love these old school duels with classic cards. The gradual power gain is really nice
That was the most tense one to watch yet. I love seeing some of the most random, forgotten older cards coming in clutch. Please don't ever stop this series 🙏
As someone who doesn't have that much free time on their hands but loves yugioh this has got to be one of my favorite series on YT
These older card sets really do bring back the magic of duels. Great content!
Amazing content, crazy that yall really open the product!
huge fan of this series! I love how you keep some cards from previous episodes - it makes it more exciting when you've seen every episode
In my experience the left side of the box tends to be better in the older sets. I feel like that has been the big difference in the pulls.
Yeah pretty certain they used to be mapped in the older sets, left side was always dominant. Figured this might be an issue when they started by just splitting the packs rather than shuffling the packs and splitting them
I usually put on UA-cam videos in the background while I work but this is the one series I don’t because I actually want to enjoy the content while sitting down and relaxing. I love these duels! Keep up the great content guys
I got united we stand and Gemini elf too plus’s magic cylinder
There is a lot of card that are aside and can't be used because either you don't have the other materials for it or its in the other rare hunter, (not deulist), list of card.
Doing a trading session or including some cards for interest to the other Hunter in any rarity in addition to the rare card would make it intersting.
SKULL LAIR for the win
Gotta love the irony of the card that was "lent out" being the final one played which ended up winning the game!!
This duel was awesome
Its a bit unfair, its meant to specify "monster cards"
@@kristienwhitney-johns5863 to be fair I think Paul has enough monsters at that point to at least kill Harpy's Brother which was the only time he used it.
He swung over Blue Eyes
Alec’s face during Skull Lair brings me back to when I played a Skull Lair control deck back in the day and every opponent was confused 😂😂😂
Labyrinth of Nightmare might be my favorite set, especially in hindsight. Zombyra the dark is the like the first 2000+ level 4 that doesn't totally blow and Kycoo is so cool.
Another cool thing about Zombyra, is he's a Super Hero. He appears in the manga, not as a card, but a famous Western Comic book Super Hero. A kid who is obsessed with him, has figures, posters and comics, and pretends to be him, fighting crime.
That is why Zombyra appears in the artwork of 'A Hero Emerges'
@@SakuraAvalon oh dang, i didnt know that! so cool. i used to play 'a hero emerges' back in the day xD
@@aliceinwonder8978 Same. I thought it was amazing when he showed up in the manga like that.
The drama in the series is amazing. I love that shadow ghoul is Paul's ace monster.
Man I love old school yugioh… the shadow ghoul plays to win are so nostalgic. Paul should make Shadow Ghoul his deck master
Love this series...its pretty awesome to see yall genuinely get excited to pull cards and slowly build your decks
Still waiting on a MTG commander game video.
Every time Pot of Greed is played and explained I have to fight the urge to yell, "That's what it do, Yugi!!"
This series gives me life
this is my favorite series on youtube rn! Honestly I appreciate the editing this video but I did really like perusing thru the cards with y’all!
This was an incredible Duel.
I loved shadow ghoul as a kid. He's such a sleeper in sealed. I love this series.
It used to be my boss monster way back in the day, and it still has a special place in my heart.
The whole wagering thing has been quite confusing throughout the series. On one hand you did the “rarest card” and then you did the most expensive card and I’m still kind of confused who gets to pick which card gets wagered?
All I know is that I feel like it would be best if your opponent got to pick any card from your deck, whether it’s rare or not, and you wager that card. That way your opponent can acquire a card they may want or not want you to have and not just acquire a card that is their own? Or is simply expensive or high rarity, but not playable. Just a thought…
As someone who did MTG 20 years ago but fell off the TCG planet, this series has been key to helping me understand my son-in-law's Yu-Gi-Oh addiction.
Paul, I hope you ALWAYS call Alec “duelist,” it’s so funny to me
Shadow Ghoul is an MVP! Man, that game was CLOSE, these duels just get better and better the longer the series goes on, can't wait for next week!
best episode yet! any thoughts on allowing the wager of a rare card from an older pack-opening to avoid what happened in this one?
I feel it would reduce the importance of hunting new packs. The new packs would be kind of an after thought. But I can see your point too.
This duel was absolutely AMAZING! The back and forth, the nearly equal life points, this series is one of the best things I have ever seen. Keep up the amazing work.
Y’all should do an episode with the Dungeon Dice monsters set lol that would be legit
I think this was the best duel in the series so far. The irony that united we stand helped Paul in the end was just the cherry on top.
The rule change was kinda sad because Alec basically lost twice this time. He couldn't use all of the cards he pulled so he was already at a disadvantage, and then lost his Gemini elf to the very card he basically gave to his opponent.
Wow!! 🤯
What a game!
Paul getting that W with the very card Alec gave to him!
Now that is some classic anime friendship win right there!
Every time Alec played a facedown monster my anxiety level went through the roof 😂😂
New twist I suggest add new characters new hunters that contain cards from 2 sets ahead that you and Alec have to battle separately than in weeks ahead you and Alec battle again not knowing what new cards you won from other hunters or if one of yall lose than that duelist is out and the new hunter is the new main duelist and yall can not watch any pack openings or battles
Commenting thoughts before the watching. Edit: Alec: "This ain't right." *After clapping Paul back to back these last 3 episodes* lol
Love that you guys are now separating for the pack opening. Far more interesting for deck building, especially for those on the downward trend in losses. It's small changes that are gonna make this series amazing. I do fear that sharing a box will result in an issue where one person will get all the sauce in the box and the other person gets shafted. (This literally happened this episode lol). I know these boxes are pretty expensive, but a consideration for this, separate boxes or bonus packs, would help a lot.
I do think you guys need something for the loser to play catch up. Again, I haven't seen the result of this episode yet. But something to level the playing field and stop one winner from just constantly accumulating great stuff non-stop. I'd like to see stuff to let the loser of the previous match gets some kind of the catch. Like choosing a card in the opponents deck they get to wager alongside the card their opponent has to wager. Or maybe just getting to chose the card they wager. Something to give them a bit of a leg back up. Also, best of three! This series is born for it and it gives the loser a better chance as well.
While I generally tend to agree with your statement, I think the bigger issue is less the accumulation of rare cards by one player (because let's face it, not all of them are actually that strong/useful, and losing Jinzo was really the only true blow for Paul's deck), but rather the vast difference when it comes to cards with monster removal effects.
Not only does Alec have more cards that can destroy monsters, he also has two cards that allows him to recycle both trap cards as well as flip monsters (Mask of Darkness and Shallow Grave). Paul managed to catch somewhat up to this by getting 2x Offering to the Damned, which he can recycle with Magician of Faith, but unlike Alec's cards, the Offering comes with a hefty penalty.
All in all a better way to balance things out in the long run should one player start to snowball may be to limit each card to one version per deck. E.g. no more 2x Man-Eater Bug and 2x Traphole for Alec, thus giving Paul a better chance to actually make use of his boss monsters for once.
@@vahlen5281 Great refinement. I like this take a lot.
Yeah, *definitely* should have waited until you saw the result before commenting.....
@@AhsimNreiziev I don't know. I think the sheer amount of effort Paul had to go through in order to clutch a win kind of adds to my point.
This series is so great and you get to watch power creep slowly work it’s way into two decks playing each other 😂
Man this series is too good
I miss old pre errata skull later. They later changrd it to only banishing monsters to activate its effect.
Also ironic that paul win with United we stand after it was given to him.
The ruling should have been the other guy gets to pick a card he wants instead, or the best/rarest card in the rest of your deck/trunk
They already changed the rules making it so they are forced to play a card you can actually lose after Alec trying to be smart with toon blue eyes. I say keep it, it's more fitting since the rule is based off battle city
I feel like banlist would've been better. Otherwise it can get really one sided afterwards.
Alec: “Slaps hand on table blindly” 😂
I think for the next time if one of you doesn't open a rare card you should wager your rare card from a previous episode.
Yay, new Episode! Love this format, and love how much back and forth there is in these duels
Love this series! Keep up the amazing work guys!
PASS TURN!
Alec’s nonstop frustration with Paul’s counters was perfect. Need to clip them all together
Skull Lair was so busted with its original text. I remember that when it came out. It did get errata'd at some point to only being able to banish monsters for the cost and not any cards.
Yeah, I had no idea it ever got an errata until I looked it up the next day. I'd honestly forgotten the card even existed until this episode.
I genuinely enjoy every single one of these duels. It's so fun watching these old decks & it's always Uber competitive.
Geez! Alec is drawing those packs like a villain, meanwhile Paul is forced to play underdog in every duel.
Also, it seems like together with We Stand United, Alec gave Paul some of his luck (wich is ironic, looking at the name of the card), just enough to win this duel. But it's a nice symbolic - even though they are rivals for their master's favour, they are still friends in the first place!
I love these types of videos, so nostalgic, i recently discovered you guys and i've already watched every single walmart/ebay/random pack series
Always look forward to watching these Rare Hunter episodes. I've been playing since Yu-Gi-Oh came out and love seeing all these old cards. Keep up the amazing work guys!!
Way back in the day there was a set that had a ton of print errors where rare cards would be have no name, or would be stamped near the bottom with a silver foil name for the wrong name. I'd forgotten what it was, but seeing this now it was definitely Labyrinth. I still have a handful of no-name cards lol.
I really enjoy watching this series. It's very interesting seeing both what cards you guys pull, and what shenanigans you get up to with your decks. It really reminds me of playing CCGs when I was younger, when we had to make do with the cards we pulled from packs rather than full playsets of cards.
This was the biggest nostalgia hit so far. Had a lot of these cards back in the day.
Great video, guys! I would say that if you don't get anything worth as an ante you should bet an older card chosen by the opponent.
5:53 Hysteric Fairy ahh the nostalgia :D she was one of my main beat stick for a long time as a casual :D I remember it was hard to say goody to her when all the 1900 we got to middle range together in tournaments :D this series is such a nostalgia package :D
“How am I supposed to play through that? You can’t 😂
Fun fact: If Skull Lair seems ridiculous for its time…that’s because it was misprinted 😂 its actual text only lets you banish monster cards from your GY, not any card. But its first printing mistakenly said ‘any cards’. For its second and later printings, it always read the correct text ‘monster cards’.
Shame they played through a misprint, but I know they wouldn’t know that about a 2003 card that was not popular lol.
They’ve done this with other cards too in past episodes such as Dark Zebra, where they played using its first printing which was misprinted.
They’re just reading what’s on the cards so it makes sense 🤷🏻♂️
These duels are so dynamic. Classic Yugioh at its finest.
"This is a continuous trap!" 😂
Paul had every out 😂
The amount of, "nope, nope, nope" each time someone tries to attack is awesome lol. I was not expecting Mirror Wall. This is why I loved old school Yugioh. You never knew what would happen.
I really appreciate the way you guys play the game, it really helps a new player like me learn to play. I've watched a few tutorials, but actually seeing the game played makes everything make sense and easy to understand 🤞Thank you
I really love this series! Poor Blue-Eyes White Dragon, it can never attack without being negated and destroyed
The Noble of Crossout was misused during this play
Since Magician of Fate is a flip effect monster, the opponent can see the other’s one deck
One of my favorite series on UA-cam. Keep up the awesome work!
Loved this one. Casual play is just so much fun to take part in.
Can't believe yall still have those Beckett magazines. Seeing those is such a major nostalgia blast. And the running gag with Pot of Greed is STILL funny.
Starting to recognize cards I actually used to run regularly in my decks back in the day! I love Hysteric Fairy and Blind Destruction.
Skull lair has two different prints. One allows to remove any kind of cards like the one Paul has, and another that only allows monster cards to be removed.
ah the old Errata of Skull Lair. When it first came out it was busted which is why they changed it from 'Remove any number of cards in your Graveyard from play' to 'Remove from play any number of monster cards'. But seeing how we're going by old rules and format with what's printed on the cards this means that this version of Skull Lair is going to be a pain to deal with, unless Jinzo manages to grace the field before all this that is.
What an amazing duel! Lots of back and forth and just about every main card got to hit the field.
Really loved this old school duel and you guys building your deck little by little in each new rares hunter series
Really loved this series so far
So glad Paul pulled off the victory here. Was rooting for him as the underdog having lost the last 2
Skull Lair pre-errata is insane, you can banish *any* card not just monsters.
Dark Zebra is also considerably more powerful since it only requires *a* card and not another monster.
Finally watching this awesome series, would love to see some character Rare Hunter duels down the line, like one person makes String's Deck and another makes Umbra/Lumis deck, maybe even some Rare Hunter cosplay, this is easily my favorite APS series alongside Larry in the Hole
So funny this duel came down to the United We Stand card(borrowed) at the beginning of the duel. More, more, more!
Not gonna lie, after those pulls and the amount of ridiculous cards Alec had in his deck, I assumed Paul's misery would continue to snowball. Feel Alec got really unlucky draws, but props for Paul being able to turn it around!
Loving the series, keep them coming guys!
I loved that ending! I wasn’t expecting to see Shadow Ghoul win another one, especially in such a perfect way. Great duel!
Love this series so much.
Alec pulled super well, but idk how I feel about him giving Paul the United We Stand to wager. Is there any chance that, in the future, if a duelist doesn't pull a card of high enough value/rarity to wager, that another card from their deck can be wagered? Maybe even of the opponent's choice? I don't know I just disliked the pity I think
😂
Edit: Dang pre-errata Skull Lair was CRACKED!
I find it a cruel twist of iorny how the card alex loaned to paul was the very card he used to win the game in a way alec still won because it was his card lol but amazing duel al around cant wait for next episode
Loved this duel!! Such a twist towards the end with the trap to banish cards from the grave.
This is the perfect "School Yard Meta deck building" simulation!
Facts!
