I bought it at Frankfurt Rewe and it was 95Euros. I think it's reasonable price... for the quality!

I didn't reach for the bottle very much due to the replacement cost so I'm savoring it.

Laphroaig Lore is one of my old favorites. Lucky they have had great distrobution here in CT. Priced between $100-125. Their bottle codes dont make it easy to decipher the exact age but I think the ones around here have been pre-2020 bottlings.
I did find a place with the Triple Wood which hasnt been released here in the States for six or seven years. Glad to have gotten a dusty one before those too become extinct in stores.
    Thanks for the review!

$100-125 sounds good to me. If I ever see it here at that price I will certainly pick up another bottle. Nice job getting that bottle. Cheers!

I really like the Lore. It changes quite a bit from sip to sip and adding a little water brings out the peat for me. The Lore and the 10 Cask Strength are the two Laphroaigs I always need in my collection….I haven’t gotten a chance to try the 16 yet but that might be another.

Laphroig 10yr is what got me into whisky and I always have a Laphroaig on the shelf. I do really enjoy the 10yr sherry oak finish. It’s very comparable to the Lore and about $30 less in our area. One more I have to mention is the McCarthy’s 6yr Oregon Single Malt finished in Oloroso casks - same price as Lore for us, but a step or two above Lore. Great review! You’re making me want to do more single malt reviews instead of bourbons…

I picked up a McCarthy's in Portland this past summer. I don't think it's the 6 year, but it's nice none the less. American Single Malts are on the rise! Jump on it! Keep up the good work. Cheers to you and Shanelle! Your channel is new to me. Just subscribed.

@@whiskeyisajourney Nice! The standard McCarthy’s is a decent pour, but any of the 6yr offerings are a step above. We appreciate the support!

Peter, FYI if you haven't tried it, Loch Lomond, Open Addition single malt @ 46% (annual golf special) is a sleeper for a young non peated scotch.
I added 2 ML of water to 1 ounce and it's very good for the price of $32. It beats Glenmorangie 10.
I think Loch Lomond is making a name for itself.
The 18 year is very good indeed. Rob

I really enjoyed this one. I made the mistake of leaving a low level in my bottle for too long and it did what Laphroaig does(from my experience), flattened out and lost flavor. Cheers Peter!

Ha, when I saw that it was a sip it or skip it and it was a peated scotch, I immediately thought, I wonder if his sister will be on lol. I'm visiting my buddy in Phoenix in a month, Gilbert to be exact, is there any good whiskey bars or liquor stores you would recommend? I will also be looking for some bottles that don't distribute to CT or my region.

    • @whiskeyisajourney

I highly suggest Trevor's Liquor. They have 3 locations and each one provides a different vibe. If you fly into Sky Harbor there is a Trevor's on McDowell 7340 E. McDowell Rd. Each Trevor's has a bar that you can do some drinking and if I am not mistaken they all serve food as well. McDowell has a food truck and the other 2 have restaurants attached to them. All 3 are fun hangouts. I would also hit any and all Total Wine stores. I am not familiar with the Gilbert area but if you are looking for an experience you can try Bourbon and Bones.

@@whiskeyisajourney I appreciate the information. I've been out there a couple times before to visit my buddy and always have a good time. He works on base and always takes pictures of the whiskey selection but I want to show him the better spots. I'm paying extra for a checked bag just in hopes I find some good bottles!

Here in NC our Laphroaig selection is quite limited, I have the 10 year which I like, the Select which is meh.. and I picked up a Lore for $100.00 and it's my favorite so far, the quarter cask I haven't tried yet, and sadly I have not see the 10 cast strength or any of the older age stuff.

I've only tried the Laphroaig 10, so I can't say much about their expressions. But ill try this at my local bar and see how i feel about it. In my market, this goes for about $96.

Lore is $230 in Canada and I like it but prefer Ardbeg, Lagavulin and other scotch expressions. I really like it but I sure get annoyed at the price and that is $230 before taxes!! Yikes!! I agree with your review completely Peter!! Yes I get the family texts too - tons!! I am an all in mom and aunt so it’s always something! lol!! When my older family (mom, dad, aunts, uncles) were alive it was the telephone and texts!! lol! It’s all good!! I’m mega patient!! Cheers Peter!!

I've been trying to buy this bottle but the folks at our liquor store said they're not making it anymore. That doesn't seem to be accurate. I' not so much of a Scotch fan that I'll go online and buy it but would pick it up if I was able to find it in a store. Sounds interesting.
