I saw this back when you first uploaded it and went searching for it again. For the second (or third) time, I'm still floored watching you drag through that chest deep mud. Especially solo... and while a thunderstorm is rolling in no less. Can just imagine your state of mind at that moment! Great video and epic trip. Cheers
Thank you, I just wish I'd had the thought to change the camera batteries and capture the full extraction! But the mud is something I never hope to repeat, haha. Fool me once...
Oh no, not another film about a guy paddling Temagami in a canoe.... that i HAVE to watch and then go binge watch all his other films and subscribe and stuff! ... .because I'm addicted to these kind of journeys and adventures. Damn.... when am i supposed to get any work done?? Seriously though, great film, great adventure in this beautiful landscape. And RESPECT to you and all who do this, its amazing, often gruelling, always something new to learn. Oh...and the mud!... jeeeeez! Best wishes to you from me in 🇬🇧. 🛶
@WindWaterandPine 😁 just keep doing what you do, it inspires others , like me, to get off our a****s and get out there too. Some addictions are not so bad 😊 thank you.
Hey Chris! Met you on the portage at Pickerel Bay Sept 5th we helped each other carry our equipment. Thanks again! Just realized I watched this video before I left for my trip and didn’t recognize you on the trail, lol! Amazing trip in this video, you are a beast! Great meeting you!
Loved the route choice. We wanted to check out some of these lakes including Florence which weve heard so much about so it was so nice getting a sneak peak. That mud was insane, we seriously thought it was going to swallow you entirely!
So there's a lot of ways to get into Florence Lake that don't involve that muddy one, haha. It is so worth the work to get in there though. Thanks so much for watching.
Have just come across your channel and whilst watching this trip I have paused it on your muddy nightmare to comment. You are an absolute trooper for jumping chest deep into that mud, what an insane effort you put yourself through! You have a new subscriber here.. Anyone reading this, show your appreciation by liking this vid!
WOW!! That slog through the mud and muck was incredible!! You are a BEAST!! Nice job, glad you got through it safely. Thanks for sharing the trip!! Stay safe!! 2:08:51
Loved this video new subscriber here. Love how you feel the energy of Temagami. Temagami First Nation has an amazing Pow Wow open to everyone first week of July amazing way to appreciate their beautiful culture.
What an epic trip - u was taking notes as end of May 2025 I’m going from gamble to Florence - south and north lady Evelyn down to Diamond to Wakimika and finish at emerald lake +- 155 km and +15 km portages. This trip was motivation to keep planning and staying in shape… I swear last time I did lady Evelyn portages I said never again… but that never lasts😂. The mud smog was insane!!!! Thanks for sharing this incredible adventure 💪🏽
So glad you got something out of it! Yes, those Lady Evelyn portages can be brutal but that's going to be an incredible trip taking you basically through the best of Temagami. Jealous!
@@WindWaterandPine I may bail out at Sandy inlet but that’s only if I spend more days in Florence and lady Evelyn. Somewhat worries about taking the Swift and considered a more durable canoe for rapids and rocks. Yours seemed to hold up through some good knocks though!! Any insights? :)
Temagami, it is on my bucket list. I have a bit of a long one. lol Epic trip is certainly right, it looked like a very special spot. I have one of those and while it is not as remote as Temagami, some areas that I have I paddled have given me goose bumps. Thanks for sharing your adventure and looking forward to your next. :) :)
For that nightmare marshy bit, wouldn't it have been possible to tie a thinnish long rope to the canoe then crawled over the mud unhindered until you got to firm ground and could pull the canoe out?
That's essentially exactly what I ended up doing in the end, which wasn't without its complications because the rope was so stretchy and the mud so soft, but yes, that's eventually how I got to solid ground and pulled the canoe across 👍
Yes! Those are definitely options. This was a way I hadn't tried before.. the other way in through Bluesucker is certainly easier but I was coming from the Misabi range of lakes and wanted to try something new. Now I know 🤦♂️
you obviously love the travel, if you have the time you might to try some of the wide open country out in NW Ontario around Sioux Lookout so that the same number of days can be spent on larger waterways.
@@jonathanberger2146There sure is a lot of country to see up in northern Ontario and that would be a great place to get to one of these days as I gain more experience and explore more places. Looks beautiful!
one modest suggestion: if you are lining alone i would always wear my life jacket because if the canoe gets away and you have to swim for it it would be a big help.
Thank you, Jonathan. That's smart advice. It was late summer and the water was really shallow so I wasn't too worried about the canoe really getting away from me, but always good to err on the side of safety 👍
I'm a novice. Don't know how you made that decision to get into that mud. I wouldn't have thought it possible. I would have gone to shore somehow and hiked somehow. Still think it was the only way? Also wonder why no long rope attached to bow to pull it.. not a good idea there?
At that point there wasn't much way to make it to shore or I wouldn't have gone through the mud! I did have a long rope which I eventually ended up using (camera died so I don't think I captured my full extraction) although there were all kinds of problems with that too... all in all an experience I never hope to repeat.
First thing I noticed first 2 seconds, no life jacket. I cannot understand this mentality. I cannot endorse this by watching video. Please wear your PFD all the time.
Thanks for the concern, Timothy. We all assume risks when we're out there and make judgments and adjustments according to our abilities, where we're paddling, water temperature, weather, etc. For my part, my PFD is always beside me in the boat, and if conditions are calm and the water is warm like it is where I paddle in summer, and if I'm not paddling whitewater, and since I know how to swim, then I deem the risk of something bad happening to be very low for myself. Of course, when the conditions are more challenging or suddenly change, reaching for the life jacket is the first thing I do. Thanks for watching.

That's hilarious, man! It was awesome running into you too. See you back in Temagami soon, I hope.
Man man man, that mud had my heart racing. Being alone and getting through these situations is something else. Thank you for this journey
And I’ve read the comments about the life west, it’s for us viewers to feel safer not you! 🤣🤣 as you’ve said and shown you know what you are doing 👌
Mistake I only hope to make once! Thanks for following.

Thank you so much 🙏
There's incredible energy, and that pow wow is something I would love to experience sometime. It's a beautiful culture.
That canoe is beautiful! My favorite part of this was the mud bog. You do a great job showing the nature.
Thank you! It's a Swift Prospector (16 foot) in Kevlar that I bought well, well used but it's served my purposes so far. Thanks for watching 👍

Love this channel ! What a slog that was in that mud...thats legendary my friend...what a great voyage...well done!
Thank you... it was a memorable one :)
This is remarkable, Chris. Wow.
Great review
Thank you
All those lakes and no fish? Nice vid great filming too thank you much, glad all went reasonably well for you throughout.
I'm trying to expand my skillset, but... fishing is elusive for me, haha.
Epic trip with just about everything thrown at you! Bravo 🙌🙌🙌

Great Journey!.
Thanks. It was awesome.
Epic journey and a beautiful watch! Liked, subscribed, commented, and hit the notification bell! Great job!
Very much appreciate the support 🙏
Looking forward to spring to get back out there!
You definitely kept it real....good job surviving this journey!!
Thank you for checking it out 👍
Awesome trip! Thanks for sharing!! BTW/ the bird you saw was a spruce grouse, not a turkey, which is a much better sighting than a turkey. Kudos!
Thank you! Someone did point that out to me a little while ago, haha. Now I know 👍
Awesome video! That tower was really cool. Too bad you weren't able to climb it.
I mean... if I was really determined... but I wasn't...
Excellent adventure, thx for taking us along with you. Do you have a satellite communication device with you for emergencies ?
I do. It's a useful piece of kit to carry.

1:28:50 Lol - Where ya been bud? I'm heading to Lady Ev next week and just looking for routes to avoid!
Don't avoid any of it (except the mud on Skooztagan, haha), it's all beautiful! I love Florence Lake myself if you can get out that far.
perhaps another water way further to the west? as there are two drainages at the southend of Florence?
Yes! Those are definitely options. This was a way I hadn't tried before.. the other way in through Bluesucker is certainly easier but I was coming from the Misabi range of lakes and wanted to try something new. Now I know 🤦♂️

I hope it wasnt too awkward with your ducttape shoes lol
FYI some of the times in the videos for days appears to be wrong, might want to fix that!
Ah, thank you. Will have a look and fix!
As for the shoes, I got by... barely 🤦♂️
Love the content but I can't watch your videos anymore (unless you bring a fishing rod!). :)
