Eric Burdon & The Animals were part of the British Invasion in the 60's along with the Beatles & others. People were always shocked at the deep voice coming out of the lead singer. They had so many great songs such as "The House of the Rising Sun", "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "It's My Life", "Don't Bring Me Down", "I'm Crying", "See See Rider", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, "San Franciscan Nights", "When I Was Young" & "Sky Pilot". He later joined the funk rock band "War" who had hits with "Spill The Wine" & "Tobacco Road".
@@ptournas It was a cover of Nina Simone? Now I need to listen to her sing it. Always thought it was an original Animals song. I was nine years old when Nina hit the charts with "I Loves You, Porgy". I immediately fell in love with her voice, her tempo, her phrasing - I was absolutely floored by Nina at that young age.
@@joannerichards1750 She is definitely awesome! And personally, though I love the Animals version, I think Nina's is more powerful emotionally. It feels more personal to me. Here's a link to the original - ua-cam.com/video/bzcUOV-oS5g/v-deo.html
Wasnt aware of this great cover tho not surprised Eric has the grit in his voice to do a superb job. This is why he and the Animals are in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and of course their other great songs.
I played this song many times back in the 70's and I would put some hard rock licks into this song,,, you two are great and we can see the LOVE between you two !!!!!
This appears to be from "Where the Action Is" - one of several teen music/dance shows that were on most afternoons after school - way back in the 60s. I believe Dick Clark also hosted this show - along with "American Bandstand". What a great time to be a teenager!
I never missed an episode of Action or American Bandstand. Also watched Happening hosted by Paul Revere and The Raiders. It really was a great time to be a teenager❤️
@@leannmiller7153 I loved watching all the music shows back then as i would get home hurry and do my homework so i could watch Hullabloo Shindig as a young man loved watching the ladies dancing whoooooo hooooo hahaha
I believe Chas Chandler and Hilton Valentine from the Animals are gone now, but lead singer Eric Burdon is still well and living in the Bay area. One of the greatest rock groups of the 60s for sure. Listen to It's My Life by them.
You’d probably love an obscure but important band - the easybeats. They had a huge hit with Friday on my mind. One of the key founders of the easybeats was the older brother of Angus and Steve Young who went on to found AC/dc with Bonn Scott.
As some have mentioned, Sam Cooke (with Lou Rawls singing backup) had a hit with this 3 years before the Animals, who released this as a tribute to Sam Cooke after his death. It was written by Sam Cooke, but actually he only changed the words to this song by Charles Brown ua-cam.com/video/KFaNWqk_tWU/v-deo.html , called "I Want To Go Home", that was released three years prior to "Bring It On Home To Me". Sam was also a master producer and the production was better than "I Want To Go Home", but they are melodically and musically the same song.
The only rock group I know of to have had seveoral different members ,with Eric the only original member, present through the groups history and still produce great music the entire history of Eric burdon and the animals.
Eric Burdon was one of the great blues and soul singers from the UK to bring the love of the music back to its home in the 60s. '65? Big bassman Chas Chandler left in '66, was led to Jimi Hendrix in NY by Rolling Stone Keith Richards' GF Linda Keith, and took him back "over 'ome" to manage and spring on the world. ;>D
This was also the sound of the British R&B sound of the late 60's. Similar to this is 'Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. A similar artist at the time was Them ft Van Morrison in his first group. Try 'Glorie' or 'Baby Please Don't Go' from them (no pun intended).
React to We Got to Get Out of this Place by it was an anthem for Vietnam soldiers also react to Eric Burdon singing Monterey and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood as well as When I Was Young
Johnny Bristol's also the singer on the supreme someday will be together. When you hear hang on in there baby by Johnny Bristol you'll see how How he was ahead of the time it was doing music sort of like Barry White but before Barry White was doing it. Hang on in their baby is an amazing song
Eric Burden & the Animals were so good then. And Burden continues to perform. House of the Rising Sun, Boom, Boom, Boom, We Gotta Get Out of This Place, and many more hits. Check out the Young Rascals, you'd like them!!
Eric Bourdain has some pipes! He has some really good stuff with the band War. Check out Spill the Wine, Tobacco Road and an amazing take one the Rolling Stones Paint it Black.
I have a couple of big female voices to suggest. These two women's voices are amazing. Linda Eder or Gerphil Flores. Linda was the undefeated singer in the original Star search in 1988 I suggest her song "Gold" or "Someone Like You" Gerphil Flores was David Foster's golden buzzer in 2014 Asia's got talent. On her channel "Somewhere In Time" from the movie with Christopher Reeves "Somewhere In Time" or from the Movie The greatest showman "Never Enough"
YES! You absolutely MUST hear "Spill the Wine". Eric Burdon actually founded the band War with his "Eric Burdon Declares War" LP. As previously mentioned, the Beat Club live version from 1970 is excellent.
The guy playing bass Chandler actually discovered Jimmy Hendrix in NYC. He took him back to the UK and managed him and his band. Speaking of Hendrix how about Purple Haze by Hendrix.
Hi Shawn and Mel, please react to their song Please Don't Let Me Be Understood! There is a color version HQ that is on UA-cam. It was filmed on the same day of House of The Rising Sun which you already reacted to. Think you guys would really like and appreciate Please Don't Let Me Be Understood. Anyway, thanks and I wish you both continued success and love👏🏽
You guys should check out a contestant on X factor USA several years ago Panda Ross bring it on home to me Unfortunately due to health problems she couldn't continue on with the show but this performance brought down the house
So, Eric Burdon heard Sam Cooke had been murdered. He got the group into the studio and recorded this song written by Sam Cooke in tribute to him! When I'd first heard the song, I'd never heard the original bc black music wasn't being played on our local station. It wasn't til years later that I found out, and then, of course, I was upset about it. Just like so many of the Beatles early covers, we just weren't aware. Came to realize the originals were always better! Still appreciated the covers. This was probably my favorite song done by the Animals.
Hi, just watched a couple of your reactions and wanted to come give some suggestions since idk if you've seen heard/saw them yet: "3 Wooden Crosses" "Long Black Train" and "Whiskey Lullaby" are great songs
Have some fun with Brenton Wood's 1967 "The Oogum Boogum Song." If you're looking for a surprise, this will be a pleasant one. GROOVIN, by The Little Rascals ua-cam.com/video/4JIq8Zn0AJE/v-deo.html That song is more of what we call "blue-eyed soul" back in the day.
