I have actually done some gigs for Apple through a 3rd party vendor. I would definitely love to work with them more closely. Thank you for the comment.
Absolutely AMAZING series your Control Surface tutorials Eddie. Have wasted so much time watching rubbish online & still not getting the answers I was looking for. But your collection of vids answers exactly what I’ve looking for re: modes, flips, index, etc. And always explained so well too. Thanks for the effort you put it mate, much appreciated 🙏 Keep ‘em coming !
Ah man this is GREEAAAAT !! I'm running a very old Logic 8 with a Novation SL MkII. I've been trying to find a way to get out of automap as it doesn't support Logic's plugins -- Logic Plugins only started to be supported from Logic 9 -- and so I haven't been able to use my controller for their parameters. With your workaround and out of automap I've assigned a bunch of Logic synths to the controller assignments window. At the push of a button I can switch between them! and tweak them with my hardware .. UUrrghh finally!! Many thanks :)
This is very interesting. Is there also a way in Logic Pro to toggle between Modes of a single zone using the same cc (for example a pad)? I have not been able to do this.
Hi there. Yes if you follow the steps in this video, you should get the results you want. I hope I’m understanding you correctly. In this video, I am switching modes between volume and pan under the MPK mini Zone.
@@thatlogicproguy Thanks you your response! In your video, you used two pad's to change between modes. At 5:32 you tapped the most top right pad for changing to mode VOLUME. At 7:32 you tapped the most bottom right pad for changing to mode PAN. I'm trying to accomplish the same but with only a single pad. This single pad toggles between two modes. Tap to go to VOLUME mode, tap the same pad again to go back to PAN mode, tap the same pad again to go to VOLUME mode, etc. I have not found a way to do this in Logic Pro. Lot’s of greetings, Dennis 🇳🇱
@ After some more testing and searching on the internet, I found a way to do the toggling. But not in Logic Pro itself. I have an Arturia MiniLab 3. And via Arturia's MIDI Controle Center, I can change a pad type from Gate to Toggle. This both toggle presses have different cc values. These I can assign to the two entries in Logic Pro that change between the zone modes, as how you shows in your video. This solution is more hardware depended. But that is not such a problem. A tip I like to mention is to use a different (unused) MIDI channel. Most controllers use MIDI channel 1. A different channel minimizes the change to overlap controls. Thank you so much for your great video!
Hello Eddie, I have seen several videos on your channel and even subscribed, thanks for that. I would appreciate it if you could help me regarding Logic Pro. My loop browser is completely empty! I couldn't find any reference to this kind of problem on the web, forums and Apple support site. It's really frustrating. Does this problem sound familiar to you? Do you have any idea how to fix this?
Sir, be sure to REINDEX ALL LOOPS and that should get you there. (By empty, you mean grayed out yes?) Did you download all of the necessary content? Cheers!
@@thatlogicproguy thank you very much for the quick answer. I already tried REINDEX ALL LOOPS. By empty, I don't mean grayed out. i mean completely empty, there is no mention of any loop in the browser (0 iteams). What's interesting is that when I go into the sound library manager, all the sounds and loops are marked as installend. When you still try to download one of the loops, there is no sign of any download, as if the computer ignores the attempt, because as far as it is concerned, the information has already been installed. But when I look for the loops on the computer I can't find them.
Sounds like you might have relocated to an external hard drive. Is that possible? I would definitely uninstall and reinstall everything so the folder paths match. I think that’s probably the quickest way to fix . LMK
Hi. Thanks for all the useful tutorials. I need your help. Is there a way to control all parameters in Logic with a single knob? I would like to click on any controller with the mouse and change it with my one-knob controller. Is that possible? Thank you.
dude.. I LOVE you.. I been sitting here digging for info. im setting up a midi twister fighter for plugin controls and was going crazy trying to figure out how to switch plugin controls to isolate what plugin the midi fighter controls... im gonna be switching plugins with a stream deck, then midi fighter for parameters. the midi plugin for stream deck helps a ton. wow, thank you SO much.
@@thatlogicproguy pff ha ha tell me about it!! so I actually hit a snag, maybe you can help (thought I had it working but no). trying to figure out how to map zones and modes. think I may be pushing it but you would prolly know.
Wow. Thanks for these tutorials! I'm learning a lot. I'm still stuck on one major issue. I have set Controller Assignments so I can use my Moog Minitaur to control UADx Minimoog. But now all my MIDI CC mapping in other instruments (like Softube Model 80) don't work - I have to "Bypass All Control Surfaces" to use other mapping. Is there a way to have Logic's Controller Assignments just control the UADx Minimoog? I assumed I would use Zones or Modes for this but can't figure it out. Thanks for any help!
You should be able to switch modes for extra functionality. You can switch to UADx mode to control the plug and then go back to normal functionality when switching to the “catch all”mode. Hope that helps. Blessings!
Hey, as always awesome stuff. Just in case I missed it. Once I've turned my pads into seperate banks, will I no longer be able to use them for drums using drum machine designer for example, or will the pads now only be to change modes? Thanks for all this awesome info!
As I understand it, if you switch to an altogether different MODE than theoretically yes you should be able to use those unassigned pads to something else. It’s kind of a hierarchical system. Hope that helps!
@@thatlogicproguy ok thanks. So do you mean I’ll have to open assignments and manually switch the mode when I want to use my midi controller for just music creation. Sorry this is all so confusing. So I have the Akai MK3 and it’s extremely limited in regards to knobs and faders as it has no faders, which you already know. So I’m trying to setup this technique you have shown to assign my pads to banking to the pan version, or the volume version. So once I’ve assigned my pads to change the actual modes, how would I stop that function for changing modes so I can use them normally? For example, my top four pads change modes to pan, volume, and eq plugin and a compressor plugin. But I want to now go into DMD and have full functionality of all pads. How do I prevent the top four pads now changing modes?
Certainly not easy. I think you will have to create a mode change to get into “Music Making” mode. I would have to experiment but on the surface this seems the most practical
@@thatlogicproguy I think my answer may lie within the programme change function. I really want to mess about to find the solution but whenever I go to sit and mess on, I just get overwhelmed!
I'm still unsure about the difference between a zone and mode. My goal is to have two settings for my pads - one setting will be for drumming (which is the default) the other setting will be for triggering live loop scenes. I've tried setting it using the learn button on a new mode, but it just seems to overwrite and I can't switch between the two settings.
Zone could be thought of as the midi controller and modes as functions within those control surfaces. You are going to have trigger a mode change. I go over this in the series. Hope that helps. Cheers!
Question, please. Is it possible to custom assign tracks to faders across multiple banks? I have a large (>50) number of tracks/channels in a project, and I am using folder/summing stacks to hierarchically organize them. For example, I have 3 mics that blend the kick and them sum to a kick stack. The stack is Ch1, and the individual mics are on Ch2, Ch3, and Ch4. Then I have both a top and bottom snare mic that sum to a snare stack. These are on Ch5-7. This continues for the rest of the kit, and then for other instruments, well beyond ch50. I want to map my controller faders just to the summing stacks, so fader 1 would be ch1 for the kick stack, fader 2 would be ch 5 for the snare stack, etc. This seems possible within the first bank of 8 physical faders on my control surface, but what about when I bank right with a multiple of 8? Now I'm going to need physical fader 1 to map to another stack further down the virtual board, say ch 15, for example, and so on. Is it possible to do this, and what would be the approach for doing so? Disclaimer: I have zero experience with controllers, but I have just ordered an X-Touch and am hoping I will be able to do this. Thank you in advance!
You can do this but would certainly need time to set it up. I go through the core ideas in this series. I also do consultation visits for folks in the greater L.A area and over Zoom as well. Best of Luck!
@thatlogicproguy thank you! I was mostly just asking if it is possible and not specifically requesting you to dive in. I am simply relieved that it will be achievable and that I don't need to overhaul my track/channel mapping template just to accommodate limitations of the control surface interface. It would be considerably helpful to know if I need to use Modes and Zones to achieve this as opposed to simple by-fader learning in Expert View. It seems like I'm going to need a Mode for each virtual bank of 8 faders and then in Expert View I manually teach the faders for that Mode. Then instead of setting up a left/right multiplier to cycle between each virtual bank of 8 faders I have to actually switch Modes. Is that the general idea? Just looking for a yes/no here. Thank you!
Certainly possible. Just take your time and remember to save your clist in case something goes adrift. Let me know how you get along. Control Surfaces is “no man’s” land. It’s why I created this resources so folks could navigate with some concrete knowledge. If you have a specific question that I could tackle on video, let me know and I will consider putting it on my list. Please keep the questions concise. Cheers!
I tried doing this with an iCON Platform M+ which has motorized faders, but the faders behavior is erratic. E.g. they jump right back down to zero value.
What’s up. Be sure to watch the whole series to get an in depth look. I think if you play with the value category inside of the controller assignments window, that should help out. Specifically, look at the format and mode. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I'll try your set up and maybe try to group my knobs above to a mode (except knob 8). So 8 cc's on bank B times 7 knobs = 45 knobs in total.
