Like you, I scored it on sale at my local Academy sports store a few years back. What has surprised me is how OFTEN I use it. I got it because it looked functional, but I don't take it hiking, on overnight kayak camping trips and the like. When my wife travels with me, we stay at state park cabins, Air B&B houses/cottages and vacation condos and those places NEVER have decent knives. Usually it's a cheap set of serrated Farberware that has been dull since the 1990s. I keep a plastic storage container with cabin essentials starting with this knife set, coffee, a pour over cone and filters (auto drip coffee makers at those places are never clean), extra garbage bags, kitchen rags, paper towels, a Dutch oven for baking or cooking (again because these places have terrible pots), etc. So... Yes, I love this set. Very functional. I ordered a SECOND matching santoku and replaced the serrated knife with it as I don't spend much time slicing bread. I also added a P-38 can opener and two extra small, thin cutting board sheets that I cut to fit in the cutting board pouch. If you wanted to shed some weight, you could replace the stock cutting board with a few thin cutting sheets that you can still get multiple uses from. I keep both. Great video. I was trying to explain to my daughter why she needs to get this set and found your video. Sent her the link! Thanks.
My Santoku is the only knife to make its way from my kitchen into my camp kit so far. It's perfect for almost everything I do there. So, I bought a new one for home and moved the old one outdoors. I've been looking at a small carbon steel pan like your smallest one for bushcraft-ier camping trips, too.
I just recently found your channel and am loving it. The kit seems good for car camping but for hiking, no. I did order the coffee rocket after watching your review. Thanks for the channel and stay safe Doc. I vote for the seasoning video. Thanks again for your channel
The pans would be great. They look very light. I am interested in the jetboil skillet, i am tired of thin guage pans and hotspots, perhaps a comparison and showdown with those pans!
I've had these in my Amazon "maybe" list for a while now for car camping. They they may get moved to the holiday gift list now. I noticed the high shelves and sky background in your shop and wondered if you had trains up there at one time. Those round corners look like they would be ideal for an overhead train track setup. :-)
If you're on your own sure. But it helps to have proper cooking knives if you have to prepare meals for a family. A survival knife is too thick and large to prepare food properly.
Can you show me how the serrated knife cuts white bread? Also, if its 12 inches unfolded, how long is it when you fold it in half? 🤪🤓 Been looking at this set for a while now. Thanks for the review Ernie! Happy Independence day!!!
Where are you & who did it??? 😮. I didn’t hear much of what you had to say cu’z I got lost somewhere around the western side of that cool place behind you!!! 👍🏻

Very interesting
Although price on Amazon is $60.00 which is abit high!
Absolutely would like to see a review of the skillets
Nice set. Good looking knives.
I'd be interested in a pan rehab video. I have a well worn 10" "National" pan I got from eBay on my project pile.
I love GSI gear. I have two of thier cook kits. Really like how they are all self contained including the stove and fuel canister.
Nice looking knife set Ernie. A video on the pan restoration would be nice. I watch whatever you decide to post. I enjoy your channel.
Very nice kit. Not something i would use at a camp but like you said it would be nice in a extended camp setting. Good video
Happy 4th, I would be interested in seeing that video :)
Yes, make a video on rehabbing the pans. And thanks for all your videos.
WOW looks nice will prolly get for future trips!
Thanks for the review.

Sure, rehab the skillets. I’ll watch that video. 🍳👍👍

Those are nice pans. I would like to see a video on their restoration.
Heck yes I wanna see the skillet restoration.. duh!
Ernie I would like to see how you rehab those old pans. Take care.🇺🇸
Honey Crisp! My favorite apple! :)
Love those pans, I have the 2 smaller sizes. The larger ones are very hard to find now.

Would like to see how you season a carbon pan
Good knives but all ya need in the woods is one good knife, ie: a Mora.
If you're on your own sure. But it helps to have proper cooking knives if you have to prepare meals for a family. A survival knife is too thick and large to prepare food properly.
@@MrDosonhai Exactly. That's why I say that all ya need is a good Mora. you can do everything with a Mora from prepping firewood to fixing dinner.
I need to find some skillets like that. Yes for the vid. I thi k I might order that knife set.
60 bucks in switzerland 😂😂❤ good review! thanks
This is a really nice set
Carbon steel pans are neat. Fix them up and cook for us!!

Nice knives my friend but it's called "SANTOKU" ,not santuko.
Just rehabbed a cast iron pan. Would like to see those steel pans rehabbed
Looks good thanks
Very interested in seeing a video on it
I thought you already did a video on the pans
