I heard this song on Buzz Jr. last night on my way home and her voice really enhances these lyrics that Bruce delivers oh so well, but she turned it up a knotch! I like a lot! I hope to hear more of them down here in South Florida
Why do people nitpick? A wonderful voice- amazing musicianship and a sound that songwriters like myself crave for. The song itself is one of my fave Bruce songs and I love this version. They've done something different. And she's singing it with so much conviction and passion, almost as if the song has become her. As for comparisons to whoever, every musician is bound to sound like someone else, nobody 'invents' anything, they just build on their influences :-)
I would agree actually, I have Bruce's version and this one. I first heard this version about a year ago when I was driving home from my ex-girlfriends. This version is such a beautiful song. her voice is cutting and the melody is haunting and chilling. I was almost mezmerized. With all due respect to Bruce for coming up with this song originally, but this cover is something different, it's special, and it's better.
"Er, no idea what the cover was. Any ideas?" I'M ON FIRE! it was a top ten in the charts fer cryin' out loud and this version for an amatuer is pretty awesome
No disrespect to Bruce, he's great and his half time show at the superbowl was awesome, but very rarely (and I'm not often a fan of covers) someone comes along and improves on an original. My opinion is that this is one of those songs, and it's fine if you don't agree, but lets not turn it into an argument, just enjoy the music which ever version you prefer.
this is the way covers are supposed to sound like....completely different and fresh! natasha did a fab job because i never liked this song....but it sounds much more magical.
People who are comparing Bat For Lashes to Cat Power and claiming England "does not produce" - perhaps, instead of listening to a cover which is bound to be generic in some way because of the very fact that it is a COVER, you should listen to some of Natasha's original material. And stop relying on comparisons to one of the few internationally recognised female indie stars you've mustered up.
lots of people do lots of covers of songs, but that doesn't mean they're trying to 'be' someone else. they all put their own spin on it (or at least try to). this cover sounds NOTHING like the tori amos cover..
Musically really good, cool interpretation...but I gotta say, the lyrics creep me out with the genders reversed. I thought the line "hey little girl is your daddy home?" was a little weird to begin, but it's even stranger this way. Also why change it from "skull" to "soul?" I've seen it written that way before but that's definitely not the lyric. Oh well!
it's insane how good this is
This woman is aching with desire. I think she's actually crying at the end - I'm in love...
Thanks for this priceless post!

it's called I'm On Fire.
You're right, Cash just did a cover.
No, it is a Bruce Springsteen song originally!
the recording quality isnt great, but i like this one
i've heard the one on the album (its a bonus track) and it sounds soo much better
the song's "i'm on fire"

I think this is originally a Johnny Cash song.
"i'm on fire"
I'M ON FIRE, weird version.
The song I'm on Fire by Bruce Springsteen has nothing to do with the Johnny Cash song.'Ring of Fire'.

It's not always so good to spam them in places they're not appreciated.
dammit it's "Skull" not "soul"
better than the original? i respect your opinion but............ really?
