This bow had more of a pointy shape to it. Usually, I see those type of bows more rounded. It definitely was extremely tall. I had to look up but my neck could barely move any further as I looked up at the ship.
That vessel is travelling very very light right now. When fully loaded only the blue will be visible on top of perhaps a foot of red paint. The bulbous bow on large ships reduces "porpoising" a bowup/stern down-stern up bow down when running to head or tail seas. Increases fuel economy significantly. Its funny how mid size yacht builders incorporated the bulbous bow design selling the same benefit. Truth is on vessels less than 400-500 ft with other than deep draft displacement hulls, bulbous bows are useless.

@@vibewithmike would these ships use the st.lawrance or Erie canal ? Thanks
This ship was one of 5 specifically designed and built for the St Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes only.
@garysmith643 st. Lawrence, I believe
@@chuckg6039just curious, does that mean it's not Transatlantic then? Thanks!
I would have thought an ocean going ship would have more than one engine . why do some vessels have more power etc than others is there a reason.
I find it surprising there’s only one engine
Methinks they pumped ballast slightly prematurely.
It’s a powerful and beautiful ship for sure, though. I think maybe they did
Big ocean going ship with a loud horn.
👍⛴️📣
Wow looks like the ship had a bad accident there on the side 😯
Those scrapes marks are from going through locks. Like these. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soo_Locks
Mike, are you going up to Split Rock for tonight's memorial?
No, I will not be in Duluth until later this evening.
Hey boat friend thanks again another great video Mike from Peoria Illinois is planning a trip up there to see it in person
Mike, I’m glad that you enjoyed the video. It’s always nice to see a comment from you man.
I hope the captain can parallel-park his car better than he can his ship!!
I think he might have an easier task with the car😂
What is the Temp.
. Those people are crazy to be in the water... lol.
Great s
The air temperature is pretty irrelevant. I think the water temp topped out at 55 degrees this summer. Being out in the water anytime requires a wetsuit and a rather low IQ.
@ralphyboy3636 I looked at the extended forecast and it looks like it’s going to be warm in Minnesota for a while. I wonder if there will be snow for Thanksgiving, possibly not.👍⛴️
@@vibewithmike having snow for my birthday is actually pretty rare.
That water is definitely cold. Here’s the actual water temperature. seatemperature.info/duluth-water-temperature.html
@ralphyboy3636 how many times do you remember it happening?
👋🏻👍🏻🙏🏻💙💪🏻
What’s up double! I’m glad that you enjoyed the ship video. I hope all is well. Happy Wednesday.👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️
I found a cool post about this ship. Check it out. facebook.com/PortMilwaukee/photos/a.1493311250880414/3231440323734156/?type=3
With all those dents and scrapes I can only assume my wife is the Skipper.
