My hs team played against AI. The summer before my eighth grade year. Chuck was going into his junior year. We played Bethel in a summer league game. Had no clue who he was at the time (my school was in Norfolk, Bethel was across the water in Hampton).
I had never seen a NBA-level talent up close and personal...until that day in summer league. It was like watching Sonic The Hedgehog in person. He was literally the fastest human being I have ever seen on a basketball court. He was sooooo fuckin fast and quick. And could jump out the gym. Swear he had springs for legs. He was doing tomahawk jams off a standing vert....shit was madness. Dude had at least 40 that day...barely even broke a sweat. All kinds of putback dunks and making defenders look silly as he flew past them. I saw him play three games that summer and no one could guard him. Hell they tried to trap him all game and two ppl couldn't guard him. Made a mockery of us and all the other summer league teams. I was actually relieved I was on the JV team at the time so I didn't play. I watched from behind our bench....glad I wasn't a part of the human highlight reel that was Bubba Chuck. That's when I put my NBA hopes to bed lol. To see a athlete like him in person, and you consider yourself an athlete, is demoralizing. Crushed my little middle school dreams 🤣

Gilbert without a doubt vocalized how it is to defend Allen Iverson to a tee and this is very refreshing for regular fans or even young fans who never saw AI play. He's so spot on about AI being a whirling dervish. Kobe worked through progressions and go without the ball just to get his buckets. But imagine AI had that hustle player energy on Red Bull and he would just keep COMING at you and your big guys inside at the rim with ZERO fear and he would keep attacking the hoop the way he did at this full intensity for 38-42 minutes. All while he getting points off transition due to him ball hawking or going full court by himself . If he dropped 40 plus that night you had to match that with his raw energy or fall flat.

A.I. and D-Wade the two most fearless guards to ever play the game!
The two who would *CHALLENGE* the trees over and over and over again!
They'd get beat up, knocked to the floor, injured and still KEEP COMIN!
Didn't care if Shaq was down there or Zoe, or Mahorn or Ben Wallace or even his boy Ewing!
They're still bringin their games down there, "NO FEAR"!
And they couldn't just walk in for layups like they do now.
You earned your buckets in the paint because it was so physical.
A.I. got his respect as a scorer, but he got more respect because of his Courage and Will to defy the odds because of his size.
Allen Iverson had *Heart*! The Heart of a Lion and a Love for the game of basketball and felt the same way about the game itself that Magic, Bird, MJ and Kobe felt about it.....
He was a True Warrior of the game, dispite his height and weight...
You would have thought he was 6'-5" when you considered the Desire and Will he had to Win..... 👊✔💯.
