As a BCU Marching Wildcat, I must say they are the complete opposite of what we do , but I have nothing BUT the ultimate respect for southern . They are on our level when it comes to the principles of being traditional, consistent, enthusiasm , and energy with Consistency being the most common thing . They always bring these same qualities every year with no denying or conversation that they are the number 1 band in their conference . Once again, MAD RESPECT!
Charles Floyd as in PRINCIPLES .... as I stated in the beginning we are ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ALIKE .. I knew someone would have something to say and not understand what was stated lol it never fails
Thomas Perkins I agree. both schools stick to tradition even with a changing band world. I have always thought that SU and BCU would be a wonderful yearly battle if possible. my only problem with the wildcats is their book size. only a fool would say that they couldn't compete on sound alone because BCU is and will always be known for their sound quality. they are a very balanced band. Southern is far in away on another level as far as arrangements but that's no fault of the musicians at BCU, They play what's called. I wish they had a crankfest that alternated between baton rouge and Daytona beach. but as long as BCU sticks to tradition, we know that they won't last more than 6 rounds before they have to fill out time with a bunch of 8 minute song/dance combos.
What is patronizing about your comment is the phrase "in their conference" when they ranked #2 by the NCAA in 2013/2014. I believe your school is part of the NCAA; so unless your band held the #1 spot, you were patronizing. Trying to limit your praise solely for what they've accomplished in the SWAC. I believe BCU is a part of NCAA, so that means they outranked EVERY BAND, IN EVERY CONFERENCE that year including BCU. I appreciate you. Cheers!
love this warm up. I came up in Dallas Roosevelt high school under the direction of Mr. Thomas Ross, jr. back in 69 -73. didn't attend college went straight to work, but I love bands and music, and yall sound really great.
I just don't understand why Southern doesn't use quads or Quints in their percussion section, because they bring another Major element to a drumline. I also feel that you're at a disadvantage in a drumline battle without those tones
713desean detrick777 I'd be disappointed if they EVER got quints. Not only for the sake of tradition but for the sake of the overall sound of the entire ensemble they should keep the drum sound they've always had.
DJ Hebert I'm not hating on Southern because it's my favorite band, and always has been. it just bothered me when I watched a UA-cam video of a drumline Battle vs. Grambling and the southern Drumline was getting a lot of hate in the comment section. I told myself that what was adding to the GSU sound was their tonal drums. Southern has a better overall band imo. Tonal drums add to what you can do with cadence. they add seasoning to an already killer Drumline. and I understand that some people may think they're not needed. I'm not arguing with tradition. I love Southern's band. Respect.
THAT WARMUP WAS SO BALANCED !! AMAZING SOUND!

Saile Retsim I can't argue with tradition. it's just something about those different tones blending in with a Cadence thats just beautiful. respect
good warmup and then when you play a selection theirs no transfer of concepts. Unbelievable!
Never needed them. And we have also NEVER been at a disadvantage in a drum battle.
