The man gets disability because he obviously is a little slow(or worse) and has mental health issues. Anyone should be eligible for disability regardless of your or society's moral judgements. There's nothing wrong with the country as far as disability goes other than, if anything, it needs to pay more to individuals

What I don’t like when they sentence them is when they are found guilty on both assault charges carrying 10 years the judge says they are to run concurrently, so instead of doing 20 years they are only doing 10 . That’s like they haven’t been punished for one of the offences they have committed.

Prison overcrowding is part of a vicious cycle that ultimately leaves widespread concern about public safety unaddressed. The United States has less than 5% of the world’s population, but our country’s prisoners account for one quarter of the world's prison population. Quite reasonably, we want criminals - particularly violent ones - off the streets, but there are so many that we can't house them or hire enough staff to supervise them. We currently spend $81 billion on prisons.

There is also systemic racism in the system where more severe sentences are given to those of darker complexion. That combined with elected judges and political bias creeping into the American justice system would seem to demand an overhaul of the system.
There should also be two different assumptions innocent until proven guilty and guilty until proven innocent with the latter applying to offenses caught on video. And video should automatically be admitted as reality of the events in question as it does not have the bias that humanity does in trying to recount what happened.

Able bodied does not equal someone not having a disability.
Social Security application considers and also asks whether applicant has legal problems/ problems with authority/ interpersonal conflicts with those close to them or members of the general public. Imagine if we treated people who were criminals with mental health help it would prevent people from being in general proximity to innocent people.
At some point the desire to be criminal is definitely a form of mental illness in the way that it is not sane to want to break laws and be violent, not that all mentally ill people are able or want to commit crimes which is why spectrums exist.
If this country were more proactive than reactive we would have less rogue mentally ill and criminals.

It is so outrageous that beating the crap out of the woman you are supposed to love is a misdemeanor, with a maximum sentence of a year. But if it is a stranger..it is a felony.
Wow. Way to signal to abusers that DV isn't a big deal, and to someone who enjoys violence, that hurting his (or her, but 80% of the time it is "his") his family members is the State Approved Option.
And the prosecutor, Ms Tink...VERY sloppy. The Judge had to correct her "paperwork" not just BEFORE this hearing, but during it. Both of which had major effects on the charges and potential penalties. She is damn lucky the Judge is doing her job for her, but NOT lucky this was all caught on Zoom Court and streamed.
SO it turned out that there WAS something "off". He WAS right. Annoying, yes. Violent, yes.
    But also: Right.

One would hope for this level of care from police and prosecutors too. But the judges are the more senior, and of the three, earn the least small of the small public sector salaries. And who could be earning far far more by taking a position in a law firm - unless they've just been installed for the worst political sleaze reasons....Judge Scherer for example!

All my children have been or are in the public school system and the two oldest ones are doing very well for themselves. One has even paid for their own college tuition that was not paid for with scholarships. The youngest is doing classes a year ahead of schedule. So tell me again how the public schools are of poor quality. We get out of life what we work towards. They have also been raised by myself living on nickel and dimes!! It’s amazing parents can be struggling yet still not want to push their children to do better. As long as we have the good ole “generational curse” to use as an excuse for failure there will always be failures.
