Battery health and older phones getting thrown away due to weak batteries is pretty much a modern day problem.
Agreed. It become the norm in the 2010s.
My last removeable-battery phone was the LG V20.
I always bought smartphones with removeable batteries.
It required me to buy additional batteries and battery chargers that were permanently plugged into my wall sockets at home, so when I would go out, I could have my phone and carry a spare battery.
In 2020, Samsung released the S20, and I bought the Samsung S20 for a lower price in early-2021.
On the Samsung website, I bought the S20 Ultra 5G along with two Samsung powerbanks with wireless charging.
I moved-away from buying/carrying spare batteries, and I switched to wireless charging.
The Samsung S20 Ultra 5G also has an option in the settings where you can max-out the battery to 85%, so that it will not over-charge and will not reach 100%.
(similar to wear-leveling in SSDs, if any of you are familiar with cell degradation and wear-leveling)
At home, I set my S20 on a wireless charging stand, so that it slowly charges back up to 85%.
At work, if my S20 needs charging, I place my Samsung powerbank on the desk, wake it up with one button press, and I place my Samsung S20 on top of the powerbank, and it performs wireless charging.
I didn't have the LG V20, but it was iconic. I received many comments in the last from people who had that phone for years.
I use wireless charging when I'm at my desk, but I do have cables dotted around the house everywhere. So I'm never far from charging 🙏👍
wow..damn and thanks for this!
Carrying a spare in the day was phenomenal for piece of mind...and the SD card, is a closer. I wish my Pixel Pro 8 had just one of these capabilities.
The loss of the micro SD card was a pain at first, but I slowly migrated everything important to the cloud. Still, it's super useful for storing games and media on.
THANK YOU E.U.
Haha 😂
HMD Pulse and HMD Pulse Pro also have removable batteries
I love what they're trying to do with their repair hub. I wish all companies simplified the task of making screen repairs etc
Good point Kevin. I remember those days of replacing batteries. Its annoying as they have the technology in the UK to power a mobile phone for 1 week, but they haven't released it yet because we all know its a money making scheme to get your battery replaced or buy even a new phone!
It's frustrating. They realised a long time ago that if the cost of battery repair was high enough, customers would simply upgrade their phone instead of replacing their battery.
This practice should never have been allowed to continue as long as it did.
@@KevinMuldoon I completely agree with you Kevin. I think Apple were part of this bad practice, forcing you to go back to the Apple store to replace the battery on iphones, macbooks and iPads. I hope one day we have a 7 day battery life for all mobile phones as standard.
@@Filmmaker809 I think three days could be achievable if phone companies focused on battery life. For example, increasing the width of the phone to accommodate a larger battery.
I know there are some phones out there than can do this, but would love for it to be the norm.
@@KevinMuldoon I completely agree with you Kevin on all your points made.
Non removable batts = planned obsolescence.
Agreed
Can you buy me one of these😁
