A little tip for anyone trimming their own transparent case, you can use acetone on a cotton swab to remove marks left over by your trimming. Acetone melts plastic, so be careful where you put it.
But doesn't acetone introduce clouding? Sure on this specific instance it would be no problem since it already has that frosted/milky glass look but on a proper clear look plastic acetone could be a bad idea I think.
What would make this even better is buffing the shell with automotive headlight polish like PlastX. It takes a good bit of elbow grease, but once it comes out to a mirror finish, it looks absolutely amazing.

I remember when they started selling them for the Xbox. Need to replace the screen on my psp and plan to give it a clear case at the same time cause I think they look great. I have four shells, all transparent, on their way! Gameboy, GB color, GBA, GBA-SP I also have 4 gameboy stands on their way, to display them. Now I'm gonna have to make clear game cartridges as well

I just IPS-modded my GameBoy advance. And i also ordered some rechargeable Li-ion batteries. They recharge over Micro-USB. The port is actually in the bat. . Really cool that thing.
Will wait for as long as needed to mod mine, because I will only do it if it is plug and play (no solder or cutting the shell) and IF the price is fair, can buy a good working GBC for 30usd, will gladly pay up to 20% of the product's value in it, not more, so I will simply probably never have it. :)

While I greatly appreciate your mod here, I think that this IPS is the worst possible option when it comes to glass case mods. The big fat chunk of unused screen at the bottom ruins it for me. I believe the BennVenn screen, although smaller and all around a worst option than the one you used, fits better the all glass style.
I finally worked up the courage to open my broken gameboy color and give everything a clean with IPA. If you hadn't made your channel i'd have never even gotten into collecting nintendo retro consoles so i am really greatful to you Elliot :)

Guys, I would really need an advice from you... I would really like to perform a backlight mod for my GBC, but since last year, many different options have been seen around on the market, I'm really confused. Midwest Embedded, FreckleShack by BennVenn, McWill, now these IPS screens, which one do I choose? I would like no soldering, just trimming the cover and assembling, I would use it just indoor and I would prefer not changing batteries every hour, any suggestion? I saw all the GBC mod video on the channel, but I just don't know
Fixed a broken GameBoy Advance SP 101 (display ribbon cable somehow popped out), cleaned it, and ordered a shell. I also got off my ass and replaced the shell on my right joycon to match the smokey translucent left I had done earlier. Double also, I cleaned up some old SNES carts that I had neglected for oh, IDK, like 20+ years lol.
Doing through quarantine: Found your channel after searching for Gameboy mods because I'd love to play the old ones again. Bought a GBA SP from a friend Repaired it new shell IPS Mod Playing it till it looks like before.. haha
Wish those ips screens wouldn't cost me what they cost me... I'm restoring my old GBC (that I bought in 1999). Already got the motherboard working, all buttons okay, sound okay, and I'm waiting for the polarizer, but I can't keep looking to those ips lcd screens and thinking how badly I wanted one :P
Just finished a Gameboy Colour mod, got it in a Translusant black case, McWill Backlight, Glass Screen Protector and a set of Hand Cast white buttons made by myself. The System didn't have any Batery terminals so I had to fashon myself some out of an old DMG case. Also waiting on an IPS screen for a DMG to replace a damaged screen. Also working on a snes arcade stick and rebuilding a 3D printer. Should be enough to keep me busy during the Quarrantine.

During quarantine i‘ve cleaned up my basement and found my old GameBoy Advance that my parents gave me on my first day at primary school. I‘ve ordered an AGS-101 for it and put it in. It‘s absolutely amazing to play my favorite games on a backlit screen.
I’m waiting for my screwdriver set to arrive so I can clean my GBA and PS4/Xbox One (and maybe my switch but I just got it so I don’t want to break it)
Don't trim all the way down to your case, leave a little bit plastic, then just sand it down with 600 - 1000/1500 grit sandpaper to smooth it out. It won't leave any marks, works well on my translucent Gundam part.
I just remember this but I wonder if this gameboy has its origin in prison technology. (FYI: you can only have clear transparent electric devices. For security/safety)
You should def do a build of a Gameboy Macro XL using a original fat Nintendo ds or a Gameboy macro using a ds lite with a custom front plate from the boxy pixle website, great video as always Elliot I’m always amazed by how big ur main channel has come dude !

During the quarantine, I'm doing nothing that's either very exciting or that important.... I'm just spending either all night or all say asleep in-bed, waking up after it's no longer day/night mostly, then I start using my new laptop which I'm on for basically the entire day/night, I eat if I'm fortunate enough to be in a decent mood, and I might at least try to take a nap if I'm not so lucky and when I do that, I usually end up sleeping for most of the night or day. If I don't end up doing that, then I'll eventually go back to bed around the start/end of the day.

While I was a big fan of the crystal clear, I never liked clear buttons, always felt weird or a little cheap, I'd go for black, then I moved from a crystal clear shell to smoke black shell with solid black buttons, just feels a little more serious. More classy than glassy. LOL

During quarantine I’ve been replaying all the metroidvania castlevania games except symphony of the night because I unfortunately don’t have it or any PlayStation
if you're running short on IPA it really is perfectly harmless to put PCB's in an ultrasonic cleaner with just distilled water and some ammonia based cleaner (Cif kitchen cooktop cleaner). it'll remove all the dirt and grime as well as remove oxidation/corrosion from the contacts and switches, then just rinse and dry with an antistatic cloth and either a hairdrier or radiant heat.
I did this mod (on a white one) using my mate’s Dremel, and loved it! She won’t be getting it back any time soon, I’m thinking of revisiting old mods just to use it again..
I work in a school, they were throwing out two gba and GBC i grabbed em and a bunch of crap games but i also got pokemoon gold and blue all of them wiork but no back plates and really disgusting. Ive been watching your videos and I just ordered a screwdriver set a couple back plates and a screen for gbc and gba im gonna mess with two out of four of them and if I do well im going to try backlit screen after

i really love this ips displays ... but for someone like me who actually using that thing ... can only say .. they are batteriekiller first degree ... idk on a good day you get maybe 5 or 6 hours before they run flat and even rechargeable batterie are up for the task ... the clearcase on the other hand is really nice ... always wanted a REALLY clear one
You could do a transparent label by using a laserjet printer to print on to a laminating sheet. THen, glue it on or double sided tape it on, and your good to to! just photocopy the old one or find one online. You might want to modify it so that the background is white so it shows clear on the printing, otherwise if its coloured it will print that colour and it wont be clear. The buttons came in today so I will just have to change those, but I'd like to it with the start and select membrame, which is not available due to the covid. Brightness touch panel never worked on my GBC. W/O IR cover it worked, after.. Never 😔

That's funny! I've done the exact same thing a while ago
if you're running short on IPA it really is perfectly harmless to put PCB's in an ultrasonic cleaner with just distilled water and some ammonia based cleaner (Cif kitchen cooktop cleaner). it'll remove all the dirt and grime as well as remove oxidation/corrosion from the contacts and switches, then just rinse and dry with an antistatic cloth and either a hairdrier or radiant heat.
For quarantine, i bought pokemon red for 3ds, pokemon gold for 3ds, and pokemon ruby for my ds lite. Hoping to have some fun!
Now we need somebody to make completely clear gameboy mother boards, ribbon cables, and speakers so it can truly be COMPLETELY and UTTERLY CLEAR

I did this mod (on a white one) using my mate’s Dremel, and loved it! She won’t be getting it back any time soon, I’m thinking of revisiting old mods just to use it again..

I work in a school, they were throwing out two gba and GBC i grabbed em and a bunch of crap games but i also got pokemoon gold and blue all of them wiork but no back plates and really disgusting. Ive been watching your videos and I just ordered a screwdriver set a couple back plates and a screen for gbc and gba im gonna mess with two out of four of them and if I do well im going to try backlit screen after

I recently bought a sealed n64 off of Sendico for $60, so that's what I've been doing on quarantine.
i really love this ips displays ... but for someone like me who actually using that thing ... can only say .. they are batteriekiller first degree ... idk on a good day you get maybe 5 or 6 hours before they run flat and even rechargeable batterie are up for the task ...
the clearcase on the other hand is really nice ... always wanted a REALLY clear one
You could do a transparent label by using a laserjet printer to print on to a laminating sheet. THen, glue it on or double sided tape it on, and your good to to! just photocopy the old one or find one online. You might want to modify it so that the background is white so it shows clear on the printing, otherwise if its coloured it will print that colour and it wont be clear. The buttons came in today so I will just have to change those, but I'd like to it with the start and select membrame, which is not available due to the covid.

Haven't modded any gameboys but I did front light mod my Color just before everything started. And ordered a pocket the other day that's probably going to get an ips screen.
You can always purchase a glass lens and wash the paint off the surface using chemicals/solvents. Anyway, great video as always! Best wishes :)
