Thank you so much for sharing this! It was extremely helpful! I have self published 3 books on KDP but wanted to make one into an ebook. I never would have figured it out without your video!
What a beautiful children's book you have created. Bravo. 👍👏👏👏 Thank you so much for this video. I really appreciate the time it took to make and upload. I think I subscribed a while ago. I'm hoping my audio story will be available before Christmas. Audio UK request a Ebook. Without it they will not take my children's fairy story. So thank you so much. I had to put my business on hold for 13 years. 😪 Long story. But I'm back and ready to fly high. So thank you again. 🦋😊🐝
Thank you very much. Yes, ebook versions are required by Audible so that narrators will have the full manuscript to work from and that it can be checked for copyright and adult material. All the best with your book and let me know how it goes 🤙
You're welcome. Due to the structure of a childrens book like this, without chapters, an intro, dedications page and so on, there would be no point in having a table of contents page 🤙
I’ve listened to so many tutorials on how to do ebooks for children’s books! On your 2 page spreads…there isn’t a faint line in the middle. In the other tutorials, their 2 page spreads do have a faint white line in the middle…how did you get rid of it? I think I have watched too many videos…I’m getting confused. My paperback version pdf doesn’t look right on kindle and I’m trying to get it sorted out. Thank you!
The tutorial shows no line on mine because I fill the left and right pages to the edges, so when butted up together there can be no line. Sometimes people purposely leave a gap in the gutter, so that when the double page is open the binder hides a little bit and the two sides meet. In theory that’s a good idea, however, when a children’s book is under 50 pages, it’s a pointless idea as there is very little stuck in the binder anyway. Also, many people can’t figure out how to meet two pages correctly, so they leave a gap so others can’t see an untidy double page spread. Steve
Very nice. Loved your art work. However, you already had your books pages and texts ready, and uploaded it to make the kindle from. What about starting off to design a kindle from scratch. Will you be showing us later how to do that? I hope so. BTW I am a northerner too, a short step from Scottish border.
Hi Jessie, thank you. I have tons of videos on creating all sorts of books, but I know what you mean, it would make sense to create a book from scratch on video and go through the ebook conversion from there. I have a feeling my accent gave my location away 😀 🤙
@@StevePeel Thanks for the reply. I'm more than amazed I got to read it as I'm not good at you tube. I never learned how to see if anyone replied to me or not. Glad you did. I need to learn more and tried to join your private FB group, I'm beginning to think its not live now. Nae matter. God willing I'll sell a self pubbed book one day, and get paid for it. I didnt get the banking info right..hahaha. Oh well its only dosh, right eh. Back to the facial book. My regards to ya Mrs. and fam. TTFN
Would you happen to know why my ebook is showing up in preview with a white line down the middle? I see with yours there is no line and just the spread all the way. Trying to figure it out and wondering how important it is or not. Thanks!
Hi, it’s quite important that there are no white lined separating an image in a double page spread. However, as long as your images are edge to edge on the page, and you are using page bleed, there will not be a white line in the print version. If you are not using bleed, then you will have a white line/border around each image. Steve.
Thank you. I don't add back covers, but that's a good idea. You could also include the front cover as the first page of your ebook and a separate JPEG file for uploading the different covers to Amazon. It depends on my books. If I create double-page spreads, I won't bother with a single page or end cover in the ebook file. Steve.
Sir i create my book in Canva, but it can't be fit with in Kindle format, the pictures and Text spread and totally changed from original book Which is in PDF format
My book is 8.5 x 8.5 do I have to go in an resize it to go from paperback to Kindle? I have an illustrator who would have to resize the pages for me right? I used the kindle creator and it left the a white space above and below still. It's all a little confusing to me. Thanks.
Unfortunately, trying to view a square in a rectangle will never view how we would like. If it is a children’s picture book with a certain amount of text on the page, it will never really convert to ebook without some sacrifice. You need the text to be fixed and the objects, so you are simply creating a photograph. Having the illustrator create an image size that will work with kindle might be okay, but then what about iPad, Nook, iPhone and so on. The bottom line is that picture books don’t convert well at all to ebook. Steve
Hello , new subscriber here ❤😊. I've noticed that you saved your ebook as Mobi, I've read somewhere that epub is better. What are your thoughts on this please. Thank you .
Hi, epub is much better, which is why Amazon is now accepting them. However, while they are still accepting mobi and their children’s ebook creator is mobi, I use that. If I want a novel or word heavy book converted, I use professional services to convert to reflowable epub files. But for children’s books, or fixed layout books, Amazon’s kids creator is perfectly fine.
@@StevePeel Thank you very much. So i created my children's book, sent the mobi file to my kindle for preview...It just won't load, all i can see is the Cover...😔 I don't know what i'm doing wrong coz it looked fine on kindle kid's book creator.
Send me the file at stevejohnpeel@yahoo.co.uk and send me your PDF in another email so they are both not together. I will take a look and delete the files once I have. Steve
@@StevePeel Hi, i've found a solution, almost. i used Adobe Indesign to export as epub, somehow i forgot i'm a graphic designer. I can read it on my kindle except now i have duplicates for each pages. -_- Ive asked someone else to test it out on their kindle. Thanks a lot
I just converted my paperback to ebook but when I try o upload book on kindle the mobi file is not visible in the folder so I cannot upload mobi file i do not know why?
I suggest repeating the process and opening a new empty file. It's hard to imagine the file ended up somewhere else. Also, could you check your Downloads to see if it is there? Finally, let me know how you get on Kami. Steve.
Did the pdf that you uploaded into Kindle book creator have embedded text fonts or was the entire image flattened? (Image and words flattened to one layer)
When it comes to books I want to create in a fixed layout eBook, I flatten them so nothing moves. But, if I make a paperback, and unless it is a children's picture book, I don't flatten them, as it can be impossible for an outside company to convert a flattened page to a reflowable eBook. I take it you are working with children's books, so I would make a copy of the paperback, then flatten it and use it. Steve.
Great video, thanks for sharing. I've just uploaded a children's book in 8.5x11 so would I pick the vertices option and if so, would that still show the double pages etc? Do you enter your books into awards and that?
Hi, unless you have an illustrator creating you double page spreads to the exact size of a double page including bleed, always create your spreads in the size of a double page without bleed. So, when dragging your 17x11 into each 8.625x11.250 page, this gives your image more to play with so that you can meet both pages exactly. No, I don’t enter into awards, as there are very few that only want your cash. Steve.
שמירת התרגום As a foreign writer, can you recommend tools/book publishers that can help me examine not only the grammar of the book but also the appropriate tone and slang for a children's book?
Hi, this is a tricky area. Converting to other languages passed many problems. As you say, tone, slang, or masculine and feminine references can be difficult. The best thing to do is look for editors/proofreaders from the countries where you plan to publish your books. You could also use AI apps, such as ChatGPT, to convert your wording, letting the app know your preferences. I use ChatGPT this way, but it's not perfect, as ideally, I should use a proofreader to check the converted language is correct. Steve.
