    I am kind of bored to ear that a short scale bass is for people who are small, have small hands, whatever. Short scales bass are great for everyone, no exception. They sound great, feel great, play great and are as much as a bass as regular scales ones.

    • @nekot9274
      @nekot9274 7 років тому +35

      My post can sound harsh, it is not the goal, it is simply because I think that short scale bass should not be regarded as "alternatives" but as regular bass.

    • @GaryR55
      @GaryR55 7 років тому +27

      Neko T Agreed. It's like this perception that a cheap price means it's for beginners. If that attitude were carried into other types of products, would that "logic" hold up? I don't think so. Would a lower priced car be for "beginning" drivers? Would cheap clothing be for people who are new to wearing clothes?

      Agreed. Great bassists like Paul McCartney, Bill Wyman, Jack Bruce, Stanley Clarke, Nicolas Godin, etc., all played -- or still play -- short scale basses.

      I agree with you. I have a Chinese '54 P bass and a Squier Bronco. Both are using the same Strat pickup (It had a Musicmaster pickup rather than SCPB), similar bridges, etc. Both sound similar, but there are some songs that I play on a short scale, and some on a long scale. I can move faster on the Bronco than the '54 clone.

    I replaced the stock pickup with a Fender SCN Six Pole Strat pickup from an American Strat and it sounds pretty great. My only problem is that the low E kind of loses energy compared to notes on the other strings.
    Stays in tune, sounds good with all kinds of amps and is handy for tracking bass lines in my home demo studio.
    Worth getting, absolutely.

    • @bobt5778
      @bobt5778 6 років тому +1

      Did you use a Neck position pickup, one with level pole pieces that duplicates the stock part? The staggered poles from the middle or bridge might cause sound issues. Otherwise, I'd say raise the pickup a little more near the low E side... I agree, great bass, neck and balance are terrific!

    I'm a relatively good bassist. Played for many years. Been very "snobbish" about bass guitars. I looked down on short scale basses and thought that real bass players naturally play long scale.
    I've had problems with my (old) hands and tried short scale bass....a Danelectro Longhorn which I now own. Also others...Gibson EB 3 for example. I take back everything I said about short scale bass guitars. Sounds fantastic. Short scale are real basses in their own right. I wish I understood that earlier! The good news is that these days short scales have become more accepted by professionals. New models are made by several fine brands.

    It took me a lot of setup work. A lot of work on the nut, especially. And you really need to take into account what strings you use,. From there, you can follow all of the usual principles for setup, taking into account the relative and peak breadth of each string's resonance. I ultimately use it now with foam at the bridge, that i have adjusted to maximize an evenness of response betrwwen strings.
    What I am trying to say is, try out a short scale in a shop, and if you like how light and easy this one is, then you can decide whether to put the work into this one, or just buy a better one.
