- In this video BMW How-To explains that the optional equipment Telephony with Wireless Charging offers wireless charging according to the QI standard.
You can charge suitable electronical devices and if equipped, your BMW Display Key. To check if the smartphone tray in your BMW also has wireless charging capabilities, look for the indicator light and battery symbol on the tray. (May vary according to model)

Constantly overheats my phone, especially when using android auto. Shame they don't have vent in there to cool device
I have a 2021 x5 and the chrging tray and is always mad hot
I’m scared to use a wireless charger. The phone gets so hot I feel like it may explode. I only use the wireless charger in case of extreme emergency when the phone is about to die and I need directions. BMW X7 2019 using iPhone 13 Pro.
My phone gets super hot on this charger (while using Apple Carplay), to the point that everything starts stuttering (even Spotify) due to termal throttling. Because of that, the wireless charger in my opinion is useless, and I wish I had option to disable it completely.
In before: when phone is charged via usb cable then there are no issues at all, even with Apple Carplay enabled.

This wireless charging tray is the biggest con BMW have ever come up with. The phone gets out of place so easily when you make a turn. It usually stops working after a minute 👎👎👎
The con, in my opinion, is that there is what looks like a charging icon (the one without the lightning bolt) that doesn't actually do anything. I just picked up my 330i on Friday. I love the car but some of the "electronical" stuff is a bit glitchy. I have to turn my S8's bluetooth off and back on almost every time I get in the car to get the system to recognize if for media and phone calls. I also thought I would see text messages somewhere like my 2012 Dodge pickup does, but it doesn't. Oh yeah, I can't get the screen mirroring to work either and today I couldn't start the car from the phone app. Other than that, it works great.
Well, they've had plenty of opportunity to update the design before they sell too many of them

After leaving my phone on the charger for around an hour the battery had only been charged about 4%? Not sure if this is intended?
Maybach because when you make a turn, your phone gets dislodge from the charging coil and it stops charging. Happens to me all the time. It’s absolutely rubbish

I own a 2023 X3 and it seems to charge realllly slow. My son has a Kia Sol Turbo and the charger station is well placed, charges quickly and my phone doesn't heat up!?
I think in near future we shall see refrigerators, toasters, coffee maker and washing machine in the car :))

I think the wireless charging tray is $300 part. I don’t know if it’s difficult to install

I just got my new 2022 M340i and it shows the wireless charger tray, but it's not working. I heard that was one of the chips that was missing . is there any truth to that?

If your phone has wireless charging feature, the car will charge it wirelessly. My 520d 2019 has wireless charging but my phone is 2mm larger than the tray and won't fit the charger 😑

Hello, I have the same car as you. I just bought it a few days ago. I couldn’t figure out how to make the wireless charger work, i have an iphone 11 pro max and it doesn’t work. Did you find the solution ?
@@raminasri9460. I got a samsung S20 FE and it charged immediately. The light was turned on automatically. Maybe it is just the cellular brand and model, I do not know. On the other hand, I have found that our BMW's are equiped with two types of "charging tables". One is an actual charging table and the other it is not. The real one has a drawing of a battery inside a rectangle and three waves pointing towars the driver side. Is this your case? Check the printed drawing.
Why does the one on my 2020 Z4 get so hot even after a few minutes charging??
I got a new this car last week. But this charger is not working.
BMW team, in 2020 I bought a 320 Sport GP 19/20 and came without the charger by induction, at the time I was informed by the local seller (Sorocaba / SP) that BMW had not obtained ANATEL approval, so due to this problem the car was not equipped with this factory accessory. Okay, now in November 2020 I replaced my car with a 320 M Sport 20/21 and to my surprise the car continues without the charger for induction, however, these days visiting the dealership I found that the entry versions of the 320 20/21 are coming with the induction charger. After all this I realize that the Brazilian consumer for BMW is a muggle that you do and undo what you want, you have no respect, we are deceived and made fools of, that is, if it were a company at least serious, it would make a recall to place the charger on all 320 G20 coming here, would be the minimum of respect with the Brazilian consumer. I doubt that you would do that with an American or even a German consumer, so the fines are high and they are applied, here it is up to you to do what you want. This is the last car of this brand that I buy, BMW never again. Roberto Costa
It's not your Race, it's happening to everyone - they need to make the Wireless System available post-sale, or else older Models will always retain a higher value than what we have all Purchased during this Microchip shortage...

I just picked up a 330i last week and I have the same “charging tray” without a lightening bolt. I have an iPhone 12 and it doesn’t seem to charge but thinks I’m trying to use Apple Pay. So I’m not sure what’s going on with it. Fortunately the iPhone works well with the Bluetooth interface/Apple CarPlay, sorry that your S8 is having issues.
@@stevenskrypec286 I got onto a BMW forum and it seems most U.S. deliveries don't come with charging unless you add it for $500 or buy an upgrade package. You can buy charging trays from bmwpartspros or some place like that for $150-200. Videos here can show you how to install. The tray you and I have is just for "NFC" which can use your phone as a key.

Here is an indication. My Samsung s22 ultra doesn't fit in the charging tray, it isn2 to 3mm larger than the tray. I managed to fit in an iPhone 13 pro max but had to take the phone case off. I have a 520d 2019 model. Hope that helps. The charger tray size is something they have to work on. I just bought the car and will be stuck with it another 4 to 5 years.

How to use the wireless charging tray - put the god damn phone on the tray
If your care came with the right tray - the one with the lightning bolt, not the one that looks like it should charge your phone but actually does absolutely nothing. Kinda disappointed about that. Seems deceitful to me.

I have this option in my 2018 640. It's a waste of time... my iPhone X overheats after around 20 minutes and barely charges - if any.
When I use CarPlay and the phone is getting too hot, the connection starts to fail and the operation is very glitchy. I use wireless charging at home with a £15 charger and never have any problem. Not the sort of fault I would expect on a £70k+ vehicle...
BMW need to address this as there are many dissatisfied customers.

Let me assure you..this wireless charger built into the bmw is complete trash...if I drive half an hour and my phone is connected wireless to android auto by the end of my trip my phone will be hot and my charge would be 1 or 2 percent less than when I started my drive...I'm guessing it's 5w wireless charging which is already obsolete.well done BMW.. 👍
2021 BMW's wireless charger will not work with any phone unless it is 5-7 years old. New phones are too big for the charger. If you buy a BMW do not order this wireless charger option.

If you don't make the relevant Wireless/Genius Charging System currently impacted by the Microchip Shortage available to Owners post-sale for Qualified & Authorised Dealer Installation, then all the Vehicles you have sold without the Factory Installed "Wireless Charging System" listed as Standard in all the relevant pre-published Vehicle Maintenance, Promotional & Advertising Materials; will always hold a significantly lower Value than older Models & be significantly more difficult to sell - for *the entire life of the Vehicle* , simply because the Older 2019/2020 Models have the advertised Standard Technology already Factory Installed and no one else can until potentially 2023 - 2025...
Meaning that this Problem as a result of a temporary Microchip Shortage, is going to be one that keeps on giving to the BMW Brand for decades & decades until every single Vehicle sold without the Standard Tech Systems is either updated appropriately by the Owner or is no longer in service at all...
And if BMW does indeed decide to make the relevant Tech Installations available post-sale, then every Owner who doesn't choose to upgrade their Vehicle to the Published Standard to eliminate the issue, is making that choice by their own Volition & not because they didn't have one...
There's quite a difference between BMW providing Owners with the Choice to Upgrade the relevant Technology at a later date, and BMW just offloading current stock without disclosing the "Forever Problem" in such Vehicles that wouldn't otherwise be Sold at all...
I mean the only reason people are even purchasing the 2021 Models currently in Stock at ANY Branded Car Dealership is because otherwise they have to wait until 2023 or 2024 to receive a pre-ordered 2022 Model from any Car Manufacturer in Business, and if they're going to do that, then they're better off just waiting to buy from the already scheduled 2023/2024 stock...
I mean if Owners are keeping Dealerships in Business during this difficult time, despite only having 12 month old "New" Vehicles available for sale, then it's only good manners to at least make the necessary Technology Installations available in the interest of preserving the Vehicle's re-sale Value in a Market which by default of the Microchip shortage, now ranks Older Vehicle Models at a significantly higher Value than Recent, current & upcoming "New" Models - and always will...
And if it turns out that Taiwan and Bill Gates and Russia and Syria (and Zagames) have anything at all to do with this Microchip Shortage blamed on "COVID-19" for the purpose of manipulating the Vehicle & Technology Manufacturing markets & intentionally restricting access to the necessary Microchips - as an obviously exclusive financial benefit from causing an intentional Biological Pandemic, then it won't just be the Purchasers of "Temporarily deficient COVID-19 Cars" eligible for any relevant Compensation but the Car Manufacturers too...
So there's no point in Car Manufacturers short-changing their "COVID-19 New Car Owners" now and every future Owner for the entire length of the Vehicle's life; when they may be just as eligible to claim any relevant Damages & Compensation payable as the Vehicle Owners...
Because right now a 2021 "New" Vehicle is worth less than a 2019 Used Vehicle and always will be...
Meaning the Financial Damage caused by this temporary Microchip Shortage blamed first on COVID-19 and then on Apple, is going to last for decades and impact every Owner of such "COVID-19 Vehicles" until those Vehicles are no longer in service at all...
