Walk Around and Overview: 2024 BMW X5 xDrive40i! (New X5 LCI w/ New Design, Engines, + More)!

- In today’s video, we’re doing a walk around and overview with this 2024 BMW X5 xDrive40i! This X5 is finished in Carbon Black Metallic over Tartufo Merino Leather. It is shown wearing 20” M Star-Spoke bi-color wheels, style 740M with all-season run-flat tires. The X5 features BMW’s B58 turbocharged 3.0L inline 6 paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels via xDrive. It also features 48v mild-hybrid technology. The X5 produces 375 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. This is enough to propel the X5 xDrive40i to 60mph in just 5.3 seconds.

Maybe it’s just the base looking model your showing, but I prefer the 2023 model’s exterior. I’ll need to see one with more options. 22 inch wheels, shadowline…

Would’ve been nice to see the car running during the video. I like all of the new upgrades, I’m trading my 2021 as soon as they hit the market and there’s an option available to me that I like. With that being said, is the 2023 model now available?

Ronnie, great review, what do you think of the Sensafin leatherette?
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video! Personally, I think they've done a really nice job with Sensafin. It's a noticeable improvement over Sensatec. It's softer, and has a richer feel to it. I suspect that most folks won't even be able to tell that it's not real leather. That said, the Merino leather is still a nice upgrade over Sensafin, so it's not quite on that level yet.
@@bmwofmorristown9038 Ronnie, I understand that with the extended merino leather option you get sensafin on the dashboard and upper doors. What is your opinion on that mix?Certainly with previous models the clash between sensatec on dashboard and upper doors with the merino was not great to the touch. Thx.

Good question. We're unsure of that at the moment. BMW hasn't said anything regarding whether or not it will. Not yet, at least.

I believe that there are 2 different headlight options. The standard LED headlight, and then the upgraded, full LED headlight which is included in the executive package. I’m not sure what the difference between the 2 headlights are though. Please correct me if I’m wrong about any of this information.
There are indeed 2 headlight options, but they are both LEDs and both look identical. This car shown in the video does not have the executive package, and thus does not have the upgraded headlight option. To my knowledge, the only difference is the upgraded headlights swivel with the steering wheel whereas the "base" lights do not.
Does it have a single timing chain or double like the first gen?
It uses the updated one-part design, unlike the earlier B58s which were two-part.

Hi. Does the M Sport package makes the ride harsh when compared to the standard model?
Good question... no it does not. I cannot notice a difference in ride quality between cars equipped with the M Sport Package and those not.

@@vikramr4593 You're welcome! The adaptive suspension has dampers whose firmness is adjustable, so in sport mode, the suspension feels a bit stiffer.
I just got a new X7 a few weeks ago and the instrument panel is exactly the same.
Yep, the X5 has adopted the X7's ID8 infotainment system and subsequently, a very similar dash layout as well.
Any change to the suspension ?
Nope. Not that has been advertised and/or publicized at least.

It's nice to see a dealership sales person that knows the product and has some interesting opinions. I'm not sold on that new dash design. They are obviously prepping for full conversion to electric. Not a fan.
Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated! To be honest, it took me a while to be completely on board with the new dash design as well, but I've warmed up to it quite a bit since its initial launch.
I was the same. Had mine for a week now and I’ve got used to the dash now. Still feels like it’s been stuck on but I dare say they’ll improve that look in the future. It is a glorious car though. My first BMW and I have never had a car in this price segment before either.

As a person who's had an X5 for the past 6 years I will not be getting another one regardless of how much I have in surplus cash. This can be summarized with the alternator bracket gasket seal problem that plagues the N62 V8 engines. How do you engineer a car that a part costs 10 bucks for a part but costs about 2,000 to install??!! Just how???

Perhaps tall adults will be a bit tight if they're sitting behind another tall adult, but I can't imagine how two average height adults could be uncomfortable or wanting for space sitting one in front of another. There's really plenty of room.

I love the traditional shifter and don’t like this modern shifter!!! It’s sad the BMW is moving forward towards this shifter!
We like the traditional shifter too, but we've mostly warmed up to the new one now that we're used to it. Of course, that won't be the case for everyone, but it's worth giving it a shot!
BMW is going Apple way, removing features (AC controls have gone, Gear shifter is gone) and calling it as progress. I feel really sad.

It's the way of the future... minimalizing and decluttering. Key features are still very easy to access and control though, either by voice or screen. Perhaps not as easy as a hard button, but very nearly.
To much screens, to the point that everything is predictable. Why not make it finger print proof
It's definitely screen heavy, but that's the future of cars. Lots of screens is a nearly universal experience across the premium car segment.
BMW continues to provide less and charge more with every model change. The interior square iPad dash may be cheap to make and it looks even cheaper installed. They dropped fog lights last model and again cheapens the look. Don’t get me started on the mechanicals. More cheap plastic components like a plastic oil pan and drain bolt! Reinstall metal parts, upgrade the interior with classic design and tech, upgrade the exterior with features that say class! I would then buy one

Man… we’re an Audi family and was looking at the 23 X5 but found out the 24 was around the corner. WTH is up with that infotainment? I get it’s probably great but they need to fire the lazy designer. Sorry guys but that is a no go for a BMW IMHO…
I can totally see how it can appear a bit unintegrated at first. But when you're in the car, in the driver's seat, it works really well, but visually and from a functionality perspective.

Personally, I'd call it a lateral move. Not a downgrade or a distinct upgrade. Just a more modern version that looks just as good, no better or worse.
Sorry, it is too similar to the X3 and even the X1.
They definitely have similar design trends/themes, but seem very differentiated when you see the three together in person.

The new style that is spreading across the BMW model range with each update and refresh. It's quite impressive in person, but perhaps not for everyone's taste.
Only gripe...this wide tablet styled dashboard. 🤮
Many people aren't a fan until they've seen/played with it in person. Give it a shot before final judgement!

Take your hand out of your pocket. That is so unpleasant to see, especially when you are doing a walk-around. make yourself look so insecure and impolite.
Not for me, all what I wanted to hear was features and details of the car and not his style for 100%. He did an excellent job with a way he could maintain his concentration in front of the camera without reading teleprompter so long minutes altough I dislike so much some features in the new model like an only software base A/C control and cheesy X5 LED strip on the dash, etc. While I am finalizing my next car either new X5 or Cayenne, he offered a great free information from the new X5 while many and many BMW dealer sales don't even bother extra few minutes to explain customer about the options. This is a free courtesy video, not a paid commercial sort of things and obviously you are not his customer :-)
Crazy. That this guy can speak so fluently without notes or a script can only mean one thing. He is thoroughly familiar with what he is talking about. So many other people doing this are not.
iDrive 8 is an abomination. WILL NOT buy another BMW until they sort this out. The 8 shortcuts are gone. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. Even the HEATED STEERING WHEEL BUTTON is gone. No one can dispute that having to navigate a software menu to do simple tasks is safer than a switch you can locate and turn on, without looking, by memory. The fact the common sense has been lost around this is totally mind boggling. Kool Aid drinkers will say use voice commands. But the voice commands are slow and half baked, at best. You can easily press a button and have your attention back on the road before the voice command system is even ready to take your command. Won't buy another BMW until BMW undoes iDrive 8 buttonless stupidity.
Totally understand the initial frustration with ID8, we felt similarly when it was first introduced. However, I have personally come around quite a bit on it. While some tasks are unarguably less simple to do with the new layout (turning on heated seats, for example), it's something you very quickly get used to, and forget about after you're more comfortable with the car. The voice commands work great, perhaps that's something I'll demonstrate in future videos to clarify how well they work and how easy they are to use. Heated steering wheel button is still present where it used to be, this car just didn't have a heated steering wheel as an option. The 8 shortcuts do still exist, they're just digital now.

@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow I just checked, you are correct, ID8 does incorporate the heated steering wheel control... not sure why I was thinking the button on the wheel was maintained. Either way, I think voice control and permanent on-screen buttons for things like shortcuts and climate control close to matches the ease of use of hard buttons. The hard buttons ARE easier, I won't disagree with that. But not by much. I think the added capability and for many, modern aesthetic, is worth the trade off. Definitely not true for everyone, but trends show that it's true for most.

@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow You're welcome! There is a permanent white tab on the top of the screen, towards the right side. Tap or swipe down on that, and your shortcuts appear. There are four by default, but once you fill all four, an additional four appear for a total of eight.
