  • This hidden little gem is located in the beautiful little village of Zabalj, Serbia. It’s located on the road between Novi Sad and Zrenjanin. I found it while reading reviews on Google!
Nothing like selection…. We asked for the menu and the guy said “ Kolenica is it”

Charles is one funny guy. I haven't been in Serbia since 1995. Its interesting to watch Charles's reaction about Serbia and culture and food ..ofcourse. My self being a Serb..I find it interesting how people from other countries see and experience Balkans in general ..especially Serbia. Here in USA most people dont know much about Serbia. I will mention Serbia when asked where I am originally from...Americans would say Siberia...or Syria. Lol. Than I would try to give some info about balkans and countries of balkan region.

I would not agree with you that people don’t know or never heard of Serbia, maybe some redneck states or Latino people but mostly people that I met know about Serbia, they will mention either war Milosevic, or Yugoslavia Tito , many people also know about Nikola Tesla I Djokovic and connect them with Serbia so I had better experience then you , I guess. Plus we have a lot of NBA basketball players in USA , lot of Serbs live in us , emigrants that have been in us for 50 , 60 , 70 years

I'm born and raised American but I know quite a bit about Serbia and whenever I mention something that happens there or talk about it people always think it's part of Russia lmao!! People LITERALLY think Serbs and Russians are like the same or something. The cyrillic characters may appear similar but definitely not the same!

They even ask if Serbia was part of Russia/USSR. Annoying

I never eat skin and fat, just meat, but preparing it with skin and fat on it makes meat taste delicious. What else do you need besides that one meal offering and beer :)

Exactly, my husband is British, and I think that he was a brain surgeon in his previous life as he always cut off the skin and fat from the meat with the laser knife precision. 🤣 l am Serbian so all end up in my plate and I love it yummy yummy , food in Serbia is good, no doubt about that.

If you decide to visit Čurug, which is nearby Žabalj let me know. I would be more than happy to be your host.

Dude, next time when you're on States side, go to nearest "Soul food" restaurant and ask for "Ham hock" and you will have kolenica* on your plate.

I am from Curug, just 11km from Zabalj and I remember Vojvodina from the 35 to 40 years ago, it was much smaller than today and it was not the best place, lots of drunks, lots of the fights etc glad to see that it's better now and seams that the food is good. Enjoy.

@@draganahardman7253 it was good growing up as à kid, in those year my father and his friends used to go to neighbor village and fight with the other lads from there, in comunist time there was more mouvement, more work you always used to see people come and do their business, now at some places it's ghost town and its dead, you can just see chinese store, but it is changing for better, alot of restaurants, church are still there, new génération of young will take place

@@vladtheimpaler2930 l am probably your father generation or there about, l went to the school in Zabalj, 2 years in the late seventies, and I never got to visit Vojvodina as then I was not going to the kafana, and in the eighties l left Yugoslavia. Last year I visited again and I think that all small places in Serbia are a bit run down and neglected, probably because lots of the young people are leaving for the cities and building their life there. Zabalj seams to have more to offer than Curug, sad but true. I hope that you and your family will be there for a long time, it's not the easiest job in the world, but it is your family business and that means a lot. 👍
