Hey man I love the set up! I was thinking of buying a rooftop tent and I was wondering what rack you use and how it goes on. Do you think you could make a video or even just a quick explanation about the roof rack and how the tent is on there?
I've had mine for about 2 months the first time I took it out a tree branch poked right through the cover so yeah be careful I just forgot the tent was up there
I bought the 3 year warranty with it so I drive through the woods and not worry about it to much. No holes in mine yet luckily. Did it damage the tent it self at all or only the cover?
Thank you! I have a video on my channel that’s called how to live in a Jeep yj. It’s my old set up tho. Iv been starting to post to instagram if you search #itsdeza there’s a couple pictures up!
How’s the tent mounting holding up after 2 years? I’m trying to decide if I need the crossbar kit to mount my Smitty tent to my Garvin rack or if being supported by the corners of the mounting slides is enough.
It’s holding up perfect! No problem at all being mounted straight to the rack. Never shifted or anything. I actually Broke an axle on hill climb and flew backwards down it into a friends xj, doing a fair bit of damage to both rigs and the tent didn’t even shift and mounts and rack still look a perfect as they did from day one
Haha actually not to bad! I feel the head wind more then anything. My Jeep has no track bars or sway bars and I take turns the same as I would if my Jeep was empty.
Awesome setup! Thanks for sharing. I have the same tent but haven’t had the chance to install yet. I have a TJ with Garvin rack I bought a pair of additional crossbars to mount my smittybilt tent. UNTIL I saw your setup I realized I may NOT need the crossbars? I’m assuming you have a Garvin rack too? Looks like you installed the tent directly to the basket? I like the low profile look being directly bolted to the basket without crossbars. I am still debating whether to setup tent to open toward rear or side. Any suggestion? I want to be able to use some left over space on the roof rack. Anyway, BADASS jeep and tent you got there sir!! Thanks
Dee Gabs yep I got the garvin rack! All I had to do was cut a little off the slide in nut holders. Super easy to do! I like mine opening to the driver side. I have an arb awning off the back, so opening from the back wasn’t an option for me. I still have room in front of the tent for a plastic tote and 2 jerry cans! A plus to that is it helps protect the tent from tree limbs!
Just for the record, leaf springs are year 1800's technology. I've owned both tj and yj. I prefer coil springs any day. I once lifted my YJ and u couldnt ride in it no longer than 30 minutes due to it beating u to death.
Joseph Lewis this is the Smittybilt rooftop tent. (Normal size, not xl) and my rack is a garvin industries. The bars that mount the rack to my Jeep, I custom made. If you have anymore questions or wanna see anymore just ask me or let me know and I can do a video of it!
No the tent is okay and I think a little bit of black silicone will fix the whole okay. But my straps are really starting to look bad and I've only used it about a half a dozen times
I have a 95 yj and I also own a 93 t100 with torsion bar suspension in the front and I will by far drive the Jeep over the t100 any day. Leafs are better.
Only things toyota is good for is driving to Canada to escape the draft . My 91 yj 4.0 has out wheeled so many week ass toyota's .my torsion bars are better then leaf springs said no one ever lol 😆 😂 🤣 😜 😅
Sekond vid of yours that I'm watching. I like your style dude.
Subix Barbarasson thanks! Means a lot to me!

Awesome set up! You should do a walk around, there’s not many yj overland jeeps. Well from what I’ve seen.

I vote for the Jeep and leaf springs and it’s not because I own a 94 Jeep Wrangler YJ 😉
I agree!!! No bias here 🤫

@@itsDeza that’s good to hear. I was concerned about cracking the tent floor
Jeep for the win!!!
looks like Mo Bokai's garage in Texarkana, Texas
Hey brother! Where did you get the cage on the jeep the tent is sitting on? Really thinking about buying a tent for my YJ.
That is a garvin industry roof rack basket on uprights a built my self!
How was the ride with all the weight that high up? I need to use the highway to get to good camping spots and I'd like to survive if possible.

Haha I just love the simplicity and durability of leafs tho!!!
Is that a 2.5?
Monty Montana yep
itsDeza rad. I put off getting a tent because of my 2.5. How’s it drive with the tent?
Monty Montana it’s actually not to bad. Alil wind drag but not top heavy feeling at all. I have Rubicon express springs, no track bar no sway bar.
Rad. Great to see a fellow 2.5 lover. Keep it up bro!
I’m interested in doing this with my yj. What model tent and rack are you using? Thanks for any info you can provide
